The determination of measuring lengths in the range of severalmeters but as well of short measuring distances on objects inappropriateto attach plunger controlled linear transducers, can only be carried outusing transducers on the basis of the draw wire measuring principle.

In connection with measuring problems of industrial applications e.g. on cranes, drilling machines and excavators pressing, punching and injection moulding machines weirs and lock gates multilevel shelving rack systems and theatre stages wood- and stone-working machines and also in instrument engineering, high-tech medical devices etc

rope length measuring systems series SL 3000 have proven for yearsto be very reliable, capable of measuring lengths up to 60 m with highaccuracy and reliability even in extremely dusty and moist atmospheres.

A robust aluminium case, degree of protection IP 65 contains a light-weighthigh precision measuring drum on which by means of anextremely stable spring pull-back mechanism one layer of a highlyflexible steel rope is wound.

The measuring drum, located on a threaded spindle, movesthe measuring rope rectilinear (in the right position) to the ropeoutlet nozzle thereby ensuring high accuracy, reel off speed (speedof adjustment) and operational reliability.

An outside the drum casing via coupling or measuring gearflange-mountable angular position encoder (as well of all types

customary in trade) converts the number of drum revolutions, whichis proportional to the measured length into an analog or digitalmeasuring signal.

Analog measuring signals of potentiometric or inductive angularposition encoders are output as variations of current or voltagesignals.

If a high resolution conductive plastic potentiometer is used, thelength proportional signal can be output in form of a resistancevariation with a linearity of ± 0.1%.

Digital measuring signals of optoelectronic angular positionencoders are output as measuring steps incrementally or absolu-tely coded as Gray code, either CAN-bus or SSI-interface.
