SCOTTSDALE IRRIGATION SCHEME TOUR

On Thursday 13th June some 12 Rotarians and guests travelled to Scottsdale to view the Scottsdale Irrigation Scheme which is presently under construction. They were met by the scheme manager Russell McDougall, and then proceeded to the 9,300 megalitre Camden Dam which will be filled from the Camden Rivulet. Water will then be piped via a mini hydro station to the Headquarters Road Dam, both of which were visited. Eventually water will flow through an 84km pipeline around Scottsdale and out to Waterhouse. The overall cost of the project is between $60m to $80m and is funded by both Federal and State Governments, together with the farmers who will utilise the system. At the conclusion of the visit we had a light lunch at the Springfield Tea Rooms. (If you are ever out that way, call in, you will be surprised and delighted!!!) Overall it was a great day and our thanks go to Rotarian Tas for arranging everything. (Thanks Secretary Leigh for your summary) Pictures next page..........

GUEST SPEAKER

Our speaker this week was Rotarian Jim Stewart who once again talked to us about his history of the West Coast of Tasmania. Ably assisted by Paul Beams on the photos, Jim relayed stories of how he travelled the West Coast roads before they were bitumen, and some of the not so fortunate happenings of the day.

Preliminary Notices On Saturday 27th July 2019 there will be another sheep manure gathering at ‘Connorville’ We will be joined by the LDS group who helped us out at Mt Joy last year, and there will be a barbecue to follow to reward our efforts. Even if you can no longer help with the gathering please keep in mind we will need helpers to put on the barbecue as well this trip. A great way to see our conveyor in action and enjoy the fellowship of the event.

This project is on the 24th September 2019 from 8.30am to 4.30am at Hotel Grand Chancellor. A great event for our young people and worthy of our support.
