IN MEMORIAM

Terrance Harens September 13, 2020

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon him.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

Amen.

CATHOLIC TEACHING ON CREMATION

• Following the most ancient Christian tradition, the Church insistently

recommends that the bodies of the deceased be buried in cemeteries or other sacred places.

• When, for legitimate motives, cremation of the body has been chosen, the ashes of the faithful must be laid to rest in a sacred place, that is, in a cemetery or, in certain cases, in a church or an area, which has been set aside for this purpose, and so dedicated by the competent ecclesial authority.

• The conservation of the ashes of the departed in a domestic residence is not permitted.

• The ashes may not be divided among various family members.

• In order that every appearance of pantheism, naturalism or nihilism be avoided, it is not permitted to scatter the ashes of the faithful departed in the air, on land, at sea or in some other way, nor may they be preserved in mementos, pieces of jewelry or other objects.

Read the complete text on the Vatican’s website by clicking here.

Burying the Ashes of those Cremated. Do you have ashes of cremated family members at home and are in need of an economical way to lay them to perpetual rest? Do you wish to bury your family in sacred ground? The Ministry of the 14th Station: Jesus is Laid in the Tomb provides the opportunity to bury the ashes of your family in sacred ground. The cost of the burial is $350 per deceased. For greater details, contact the Office of Cemetery Management at 410-547-5375 or Father Patrick Carrion ([email protected]).

Recently deceased members of the parish will be memorialized here in the weekly bulletin during the month of their passing to eternal life, and then permanently on the parish website at www.saintlawrencemartyr.org/in-memoriam. Click on the deceased’s name to view his or her obituary (when available). Family members of deceased St. Lawrence Martyr parishioners may request the inclusion of their loved one on our In Memoriam web page by clicking here, or by calling the Parish Office at 410-799-1970.

Your prayers are urgently needed. Prayers work even

when social distancing!

We ask you to join with other Christians around the

world for the 40 Days for Life 2020 fall campaign from

September 23 through November 1. This 40 days of

prayer and fasting is for an end to abortion. This year’s

theme is “40 Days in prayerful vigil is essential to save

lives.”

You are also invited to stand and peacefully pray during

this 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside

Annapolis Planned Parenthood, and to help spread the

word about this important community outreach.

Will you join us in prayer to be a lifeline to the women

and men who are under extra pressure, especially during

this pandemic, to end the life of their baby?

Even if you can stand vigil for just ONE hour during the

campaign, that would be most welcome. If you are

unable to participate physically, we ask you to lift up the

local 40 Days for Life campaign in prayer, as well as ask

our merciful Lord for protection of all human life.

For more information, contact Mary Jo Hogan by email

at [email protected], or visit the following website:

https://www.40daysforlife.com/annapolis

Watch this short video about the importance of the campaign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_WVXzMaY74

Did you know that Planned Parenthood was able to remain open

during the COVID shut down because it was designated an "essential service”?

OCTOBER IS

RESPECT LIFE MONTH!

Each October the Church in the United States

celebrates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday

of October is observed as Respect Life Sunday. This

year, the theme is “Live the Gospel of Life”.

As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and

protect those who are most vulnerable, from the

beginning of life to its end, and at every point in

between. During the month of October, the Church

asks us to reflect more deeply on the dignity of

every human life.
