WELCOME TO TERM 3
Welcome back to what looks to be a very busy Term 3. Our Term Planner which is full of so many exciting activities and events for students at all year levels.
In the first two weeks of term we are hosting the Ridiculous Rhyme Show, as seen on CBeebies, which is a U.K based production currently touring a select few Aus-tralian schools. And we were a school chosen! On the same day, we will also be celebrating the moon landing. Our staff (some of us) have been talking about where they were when this happened, with some describing being at school and watching it on a black and white television.
Next week our grade 3/4 students are travelling to Mt Evelyn for their school camp. This is a fantastic camp with a focus on outdoor adventure activities which promote fun, teamwork and self-confidence.
The grade 1/2 students will be off to the Warrandyte Historical Society next week as they begin their historical inquiry unit “Time Changes Communities”. This will be followed by an incursion by the National Trust.
And to conclude these first two weeks, our whole school be celebrating National Tree Day where students are asked to dress in garden clothes (work clothes, over-alls, straw hats, Bunnings shirts etc…) and plant a tree supplied. Every student will learn to de-pot, plant, water and care for their own individual plant. I would like to thank Sarah Qualtrough and Kate Kazhour for organising this event.
Stepping Stones Transition Program
Next Wednesday the 24th we begin our Stepping Stones program for future and prospective 2020 students. This is a community gathering for all 3, 4 and 5 year old children. There are four sessions which make up this program and everyone is wel-come. All gatherings are free of charge and occur from 2:00 to 2:40. During each session a range of fun and exciting activities are offered that allow the children the opportunity to become familiar with our school environment and teachers, as well as meet other children.
This program is a great ‘stepping stone’ that will assist a child with their transition to school and into the historic Stone Building.
Our first gathering is called Amazing Art. Children will use their creative talents to create a masterpiece with our Visual Arts teacher, Eliza Campanaro.

Across the term we will have three more Stepping Stone sessions on 7 August, 21 August and 4 September. We look forward to seeing you there.

2019 Parent Opinion Survey
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annu-
al survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly se-
lected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate,
student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future
school planning and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey
are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22rd July to Sunday 11th Au-
gust.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient
time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be
available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hin-
di, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.
The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September.
Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Zara V. from 5/6J is currently in Fukuoka, Japan attending the Asia Pacific Children’s Conference, as one of just 4 Australian delegates. There are delegations from 46 countries this year with a total of 300 eleven years olds who have been staying altogether at a big Marine Camp for several days this week, before going out to different homestay families around the Fukuoka region. All the dele-gates will come together again to perform at a big public outdoor celebration of Multi Culturalism on Saturday, July 20. Each delegation will perform a dance or song or something else which represents their coun-try, and the Aussies are scheduled to take the stage at 5.45 p.m. our time. If you would like to watch some of the performances of the different delegations, the performances start at 2.05 p.m. and can be viewed in a live stream on youtube. By searching WE ARE THE BRIDGE FESTIVAL 2019, you should be able to find the channel. Nepal, My-anmar, Bhutan and China are the countries that immediately precede Australia on the schedule. We have no doubt that Zara and the other Aussies there will do us proud on Saturday. Sensei

One Giant Leap for Mankind
Tomorrow, Friday 19 July we are planning on celebrating 50 years since man landed on the moon. (Actually 20 July
but this year it is on a Saturday). As this event was of such scientific significance we thought that we could cele-
brate it through a variety of classroom activities and also dressing up.
There will be a range of activities on offer for teachers to do in their classroom from watching the landing, discov-
ering the things we still use that were discovered through the space program as well as looking at and making rock-
ets and lunar modules.
Don’t forget to wear your astronaut, rocket, star, planet, ET , black hole, whatever costume you have planned.
