THE ORGANISATION

The Central Australian Women’s Legal Service Inc. (‘CAWLS’) is a Community Legal Centre which specialises in providing free legal information, advice and assistance to women of Central Australia. CAWLS also provides community legal education and participates in the process of law reform affecting the women in Central Australia.

Our vision is to enable, educate and empower women to better engage in the legal system so that their rights can be considered and respected.

Our purpose is to be an accessible, proactive and responsive legal service for all Central Australian women with priority given to those in greatest need.

CAWLS is managed by a voluntary Management Committee, whilst the day-to-day management is by the Managing Principal Solicitor and Office Manager.

THE ROLE

The Office Manager performs a pivotal role in assisting the Managing Principal Solicitor to operate the service. The Office Manager is responsible for financial and statistical reporting as well as the day-to-day coordination of administrative procedures and resources to ensure organisational effectiveness and efficiency.

SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL

1. Proven successful experience working as an Office Manager or in a similar management role, particularly experience in managing staff.

2. Proven successful experience working with MYOB as well as the ability to set budgets within funding parameters.

3. Demonstrated understanding and advanced skills in the use of a range of software programs including Word, excel and databases as well as an interest in statistical analysis and enthusiasm to develop further skills.

4. Ability to use initiative, discretion, manage competing priorities and deadlines with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

5. Highly developed written and oral communication skills.

6. Understanding of cross cultural awareness and sensitivity and ability to work effectively with culturally diverse people.

7. Demonstrated understanding of the issue of confidentiality.

8. Proven high level interpersonal skills, flexibility and capacity to work as a member of a team.

9. Current National Police Check or the ability to obtain one.

DESIRABLE

1. Relevant tertiary or other qualifications.

2. Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing women seeking access to justice.

3. Current manual drivers licence or the ability to obtain one.
