All Stars disco: This Friday, 24th October in the school hall. We hope you have returned your RSVP slips and payment to the office and are very much looking forward to this sports-themed disco! Donations of bottled water can be placed in the school hall or the school office.

P&F Office bearers and committee members: The P&F does a valuable job in our school community and your support is required for the Sacred Heart P&F office bearer positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer in 2015. Nominations can be made at the P&F Annual General meeting which will be held on Wednesday, 26th November from 6.30pm in the School Hall. If you have any interest in nominating for these positions or as a general committee member please don’t hesitate to contact one of the existing office bearers or your P&F class representative. The P&F need you!

Swimming training: The P&F will be funding the hire of one lane at Beatty Park on Monday afternoons (3.30pm to 4.30pm) and Friday mornings (7.30am to 8am) commencing this week for Yr 3 upwards (entrance fees will apply but spectators (parents/guardians) should not be charged). The P&F have also purchased 20 kickboards for use at swimming training – these should help those who are not strong swimmers! Gingerbread House Workshop: For the past few years, the P&F have held a Gingerbread House Decoration Workshop in the lead up to Christmas. Unfortunately this year, our usual organisers are unable to run the workshop. The P&F are thus seeking two volunteers to take on this super-fun and super-rewarding task. The workshop is simple to run, and the lucky volunteers will be given all the instructions and guidance they require. If you can help run the Gingerbread House Decoration Workshop this year, please contact Juliet Bruining on [email protected] or 9328 3009. Upstairs water fountains: The P&F are investigating the installation of water coolers which should be installed during term 4.

Fundraising: Bubbler Deals: Recently the P&F received a cheque from Bubbler Deals as part of their community fundraising. If you purchase a voucher from them you just need to nominate Sacred Heart Primary School Highgate and we will receive 5% (See attached flyer).

School Bags - Old style school back packs are available at $60 and new trolley bags (no school logo attached) are now available at $75. Please see the office staff if you would like to make a purchase.

School banking: - School Banking takes place every Tuesday morning in the library from 8.30-9am. For any school banking queries, please contact Linda Manno on 0408 935 702.

Sacred Heart’s Got Talent - Thursday, 30th October 2014 (1.30pm School Hall)

Auditions are being completed this week. We would love to see as many parents at the show, supporting the students.

Student Art Fundraiser Last term most students from PP to Yr 6 created their special masterpieces which will be reprinted onto calendars, greeting cards and other great gifts for family and friends. The students

went to a great deal of effort and their art is truly amazing!! Order forms will be going home today plus an online order form will be attached separately from the newsletter today. Ordering is super easy, simply indicate what items you wish to order and we will collate your child’s artwork with your order. You can also submit a favourite photo online as another option. Examples of the calendars and cards plus extra forms are near the office. Please place your order and payment (cash or cheque made out to SHPS Parents & Friends Association) in an envelope marked ‘art fundraiser’ and hand into the office. All orders must be received by Wednesday, 5th November to allow enough time for production and delivery back to the school before term finishes.

Family Mass - Our next Family Mass will take place on Sunday, the 2nd of November, in the Sacred Heart Church at 9.00am. This Mass will be celebrated by Father Peter, and led by the Year Three families. You are all very warmly invited to join us for this Mass. Mrs Anna Sheehy (Assistant Principal)

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION We congratulate Santo Farinola from Year 4, who received Jesus for the first time in Holy Communion on Sunday, 19th October, at Sacred Heart Church. We pray as a community that the Sacrament of Eucharist will remain with and bless Santo always. Mrs Anna Sheehy (Assistant Principal)

From little seeds, big seeds grow! A few months ago, when John and Chiara Del Marco were helping their Dad to collect the seeds from Marigold flower heads, John came up with a good idea. He suggested that if they could harvest enough seeds, they could package them to raise money for the poor people. So, last weekend John and Chiara took 90 packets and a box of loom bands they had made to Sacred Heart Parish for parishioners to buy. People were very generous and approximately $270 was raised. This will be given to Caritas-especially for the many Syrian children (like the boy on the front page of the paper recently) who had to leave home in a hurry when war came to their towns. What a wonderful, original idea, to package seeds and make loom bands in order to raise money to help the Syrian Children. We are very proud of John and Chiara, who very selflessly gave their free time and effort in order to help others in need.
