The new lift will be placed to the right of the side entrance nearest Main St., between the downspouts as pictured below. The new wheelchair lift will be enclosed and will service both the lower and upper churches. We currently have $11,590 in the elevator fund. We’re hoping to raise enough funds from this year’s Grand Annual campaign to make the lift a reality. The pictures shown above of the lift entrance, vestibule, and basement level landing, were taken at West Medford Baptist Church.

Winter’s darkness still enfolds us and so the theme of light and darkness in today’s readings is very apropos for us to ponder. In the first reading, Isaiah gives us an antidote, reminding us that performing works of mercy can bring light into the darkness. In the Gospel, “Jesus said to his disciples…

You are the light of the world…. your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father." Are your words and actions pointing people to Jesus? If they are not, what will you do to be a light in the darkness this week?

Sunday Reflection

The One Heart Lent Program raises money to providefree, nu-tritious meals in Lawrence through the Cor Unum Meal Center. (“Cor Unum” means“One Heart” in Latin.) Cor Unum serves meals to hundreds of people every day, 365 days a year.

The One Heart Lent Program includes:

• an information sheet that explains the program and Lent, with a cut-off label that people attach to jars for their almsgiving during Lent

• a day-by-day Lent Guide, which includes scripturepassages and reflections for each day of Lent

All materials are free. They may be downloaded forweek-by-week publication in parish/school bulletins, as well as for print or elec-tronic distribution to a wide variety of constituencies, including young people.

Meeting Christ in Prayer is an eight-week guided prayer expe-rience based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyo-la. By prayer, reflection and faith sharing, Meeting Christ in Prayer can bring people to a new level of discipleship and to a renewed sense of Christian mission. The Meeting Christ in Prayer group meets once a week for eight weeks with Sister Anne D’Arcy. Participants pray with suggested scripture texts daily. La oscuridad del invierno nos sigue cubriendo y por eso el

tema de la luz y la oscuridad en las lecturas de hoy son muy

apropiadas para nuestra reflexión. En la primera lectura, Isaías

nos da un antídoto, al recordarnos que realizar obras de

misericordia puede traer la luz a la oscuridad. En el Evangelio,

“Jesús dijo a sus discípulos … ustedes son la luz del mundo

“…que de igual manera brille la luz de ustedes ante los

hombres, para que viendo las buenas obras que ustedes hacen,

den gloria a su Padre, que está en los cielos’’ ¿tus palabras y

acciones están llevando a las personas hacia Jesús? Sino es así,

¿qué es lo que harás para ser una luz en la oscuridad esta

semana?
