Overview The IOSH Working Safely course is designed for people at any level in anysector, and meets the government’s guide lines for introductory health andsafety training. It is a 100% match to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE)‘Passport’ syllabus.

The highly-innovative format of delivery inspires participants, and providesassurance of getting the essential health and safety messages across.Participants who successfully pass the end of course test are awarded eitherIOSH’s Working Safely certificate or a credit card-sized IOSH ‘passport’ card.

Overview The participant’s original IOSH Managing Safely course was designed toinform them as managers and supervisors working in any organisation orsector about health and safety management systems. After (say) three years,some of the required core knowledge can be lost if it has not been usedregularly; and/or over the same period new laws or new practices can haveemerged. Our IOSH Managing Safely Refresher course brings past-participantsup-to-date on all applicable changes and practices.

Overview The NEBOSH National General Certificate is a recognised qualificationdesigned to help those with health and safety responsibilities for examplemanagers supervisors and employee representatives to carry out their dutiesat work more effectively and to protect the organisations for which they work.It will help ensure that decisions are made from a position of knowledge acrossa broad range of hazards and work activities.

Target AudienceIt is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK with over160,000 people having gained the award since it was launched in 1989. Noprevious health and safety knowledge is required but students must be able towrite short reports. The duration of study for the National General Certificate isa minimum of 87 hours plus private study and background reading.

Assessment ProcessEach written paper consists of one long-answer question and ten short-answerquestions. All questions are compulsory.

Overview The NEBOSH International General Certificate is a globally recognisedqualification designed for employees based outside the UK and who havehealth and safety responsibilities for example managers supervisors andemployee representatives to carry out their duties at work more effectively andto protect the organisations for which they work. This qualification focuses oninternational standards and management systems, enabling candidates toensure that decisions are made from a position of knowledge across a broadrange of hazards and work activities, in all parts of the world.

Overview The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety (NCC) andthe NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety(NGC) are nationally and internationally recognised qualifications. They areboth designed to help those with health and safety responsibilities, forexample managers, supervisors, CDM co-ordinators and employeerepresentatives, from construction or other type organisations, making day-to-day decisions at work. They will give them a broad understanding of healthand safety issues and enable them to manage risks, within workplace activities,effectively.

Many people take the NEBOSH NCC and/or the NEBOSH NGC as a first step ina career in health and safety. The qualifications both meet the academicrequirements for Technical membership (Tech IOSH) of the Institute ofOccupational Safety and Health (IOSH). They provide a valuable overview andare a sound basis for further professional study.

Target AudienceThe NEBOSH NCC and the NEBOSH NGC are aimed at Supervisors, Managers,CDM co-ordinators and employee representatives, within industry who arerequired to ensure that activities under their control are undertaken safely.They are likely to prove useful for those concerned with the management ofbuildings who may need to ensure that contractors are working safely. Thequalifications are also appropriate for supervisors and managers working inother industries such as utilities, and even broadcasting, where temporaryworkplaces are a feature of their activities.

Assessment ProcessThe NEBOSH NCC and the NEBOSH NGC both consist of three units; eachseparately assessed (enabling students to choose to take individual units inany order over a five year period).

Overview Whether food is being produced, prepared, cooked, served, stored or distributed,CIEH has developed food safety training to suit employees in all types of foodbusiness. These courses give participants a firm grasp of the importance of foodsafety and knowledge of the systems, techniques and procedures involved anunderstanding of how to control food safety risks (personal hygiene, food storage,transport, cooking and handling) and the confidence and expertise to safelydeliver quality food to customers.

• Food Safety Law – understand the laws that apply to food businesses and food handlers, and be able to describe in general terms, the requirements of the current regulations

• Food Safety Hazards – understand the concept of food hazards and how the risk of food poisoning can be contained

• Refrigerating, Chilling and Cold holding of foods – understand how to take product and equipment temperatures, and how a reduction in storage temperature will minimise bacterial multiplication

• Cooking, Hot holding and Reheating of Foods – understand the importance of high temperatures in the supply of safe food

• Personal Hygiene of Food Handlers – understand that food handlers can impose a risk to food safety and how to control this

• Principles of Food Storage – the importance of utilising appropriate storage conditions for different types of food

• Cleaning – the importance of cleaning in food premises and the management of waste, understanding the different methods of cleaning and use of chemicals

• Food Premises and Equipment – recognise the need for high standards of structure and equipment to promote good hygiene in food premises
