We welcome Bishop McManus to our parish this weekend as he celebrates the African Mass at St. Andrew’s. We thank him for his support of our parish. This Friday is a youth rally at 6:00 p.m. in the gym. All youth thirteen years and older are invited to come and be inspired. The campus ministry at WPI is facilitating the gathering. We are reminded of the SPRED program that serves people with special needs. This diocesan program began at St. Andrew’s and offer religious education in a most supportive atmosphere. Next week is Catholic Schools week. It begins with an open house at St. Peter’s School next Sunday. Catholic schools have and are providing great support for our Church. If anyone is interested in discovering more of this resource we welcome you. On Tuesday January 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room of St. Peter’s we will have a meeting with all involved in CCD. We will plan for the rest of our year. We thank District Attorney Joe Early and his staff for their tireless work in combating the opiate crisis; the diversion program which helps people turn their lives around; for the excellent efforts to combat bullying in all forms. These programs are beneficial to everyone in our community. It’s been a hard winter so far. If school is cancelled all activities that day are cancelled. It keeps it safe. Also, thanks to Kim Mann, if CCD is cancelled we will put it on channel 5. So check there on Sundays, with inclement weather. Ordinary Time continues. Public ministry begins. Jesus calls people to journey with Him. We are called to serve in His name. We begin by repenting and believing in the gospel. St. Paul is so accurate when he says time is running out. The world in its present form is passing away. We are not talking about incidental change but the future of civilization itself. We as the Church model how we should live and act. Jonah was called to bring the city of Ninevah to its senses. He began by converting the King. Change comes at the top as well as everywhere else. The king was essential to conversion. We need to try to convert our political leaders to move us forward. They need to stop the vitriolic, partisan politics. For me to use the day of remembrance for Dr. King who preached, lived and spoke nonviolence for violent rhetoric is the ultimate hypocrisy. And too many of them are acting like that; republicans and democrats. Let’s take the principles of Dr. King which is basically the gospel and try to live them out. It has brought about change. It will bring about change. Repent and believe in the gospel.
In Christ, Monsignor Francis Scollen
