Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Sunday, we contemplate Jesus at Capernaum, in the midst of His minis-
try, and more precisely, in Simon Pe-ter's family home: «On leaving the
synagogue, Jesus went to the home of
Simon and Andrew» (Mk 1:29). There, He met his family, those who hear the
word of God and do it (cf. Lk 8:21). Simon's mother-in-law is sick in bed
and He, with a gesture that goes far beyond any anecdote, takes her by the
hand, raises her up and allows her to wait on them.
The poor and ailing people are brought to him and Jesus heals them with the
simple touch of his hand, which is a source of life. They are free and saved.
We are all looking for Christ, some
quite willingly and disposed; others perhaps not being quite conscious as
«You have made us, O Lord, for your-
self, and our heart is restless until it rests in you» (St. Augustine).
My friends, every Sunday Eucharist is
our meeting with the Lord who comes to raise us from our routine and dejec-
tion sins and makes out of us the living testimonies of an encounter that con-
stantly renew us, and truly sets us free
in the grace of Jesus Christ.
I truly appreciate the participation last Sunday at the Masses when we cele-
brated not only the Lord’s Mystery of Salvation but the Parish Commitment
weekend and the kick off of the Catho-lic Schools week, if you didn’t have the
opportunity to fill out the commitment
card or didn’t bring it to Mass last weekend, you can mail it to us or bring
it to one of the masses this weekend. Preparation for the Sacrament of Con-
firmation starts this weekend please keep this young men and women in
your prayers. We also invite anyone who want to take part of the Saint Jo-
seph Table we are beginning the
preparation for this wonderful Italian tradition here at our parish.

SUNDAY : FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FEBRUARY 4, 2017
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas:
Hoy, contemplamos a Jesús en Cafar-
naúm, el centro de su ministerio, y más en concreto en casa de Simón Pedro:
«Cuando salió de la sinagoga se fue
(...) a casa de Simón y Andrés» (Mc 1,29). Allí encuentra a su familia, la de
aquellos que escuchan la Palabra y la cumplen (cf. Lc 8,21). La suegra de
Pedro está enferma en cama y Él, con un gesto que va más allá de la anécdo-
ta, le da la mano, la levanta de su postración y la devuelve al servicio.
Se acerca a los pobres-sufrientes que le llevan y los cura solamente alargan-
do la mano; sólo con un breve contacto con Él, que es fuente de vida, quedan
liberados-salvados.
Todos buscan a Cristo, algunos de una manera expresa y esforzada, otros
quizá sin ser conscientes de ello, ya
que «nuestro corazón está inquieto y no encuentra descanso hasta reposar
en Él» (San Agustín).
Amigos, la Eucaristía de cada domingo es el encuentro con el Señor que viene
a levantarnos del pecado de la rutina y del desánimo para hacer de nosotros
testigos vivos de un encuentro que nos
renueva constantemente, y que nos hace libres de verdad con Jesucristo.
Realmente aprecio la participación el
domingo pasado en las Misas cuando celebramos no sólo el misterio del Se-
ñor, sino el fin de semana de compro-miso de la parroquial y el inicio de la
semana de las escuelas católicas, si
usted no tuvo la oportunidad de llenar la tarjeta de compromiso o no lo trajo a
Misa el fin de semana pasado, puede enviarla a nosotros por correo o traerla
a una de las Misas este fin de semana. Preparación para el Sacramento de la
confirmación comienza este fin de se-mana por favor mantenga a estos jóve-
nes hombres y mujeres en sus oracio-
nes. También invitamos a quien desee tomar parte de la mesa de San José
estamos comenzando la preparación para esta maravillosa tradición italiana aquí en nuestra parroquia.
