THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM is celebrated on most Sundays at 1:00 PM (not during Lent). A family must be registered in the parish, attend the baptismal preparation class, and cooperate with the regulations established by the parish. Our baptismal class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8:00 PM, in the Augustine Room. Please call the Parish Center to register any time during your pregnancy.

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is celebrated on Saturday between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM in the Chapel or by appointment.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION is celebrated once a year, here at St. Augustine. A candidate must successfully complete our Religious Education program. Adult Confirmation is held on Pentecost Sunday and any interested adults should contact the Parish Center.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK is administered at home to any Catholic who is seriously ill. Please call the Parish Center. Any parishioner admitted to a local hospital should contact the Catholic Hospital Chaplain through the hospital. A family member should contact the parish when someone is admitted to the hospital. We will gladly pray for any members who are sick, whether at home or in the hospital, at our Sunday Masses; however, it is necessary for the family to “request” it.

THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY is celebrated by the Pastor or one of our deacons. Weddings may be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon. Only a ceremony is permitted on Sunday. The pastor will confirm the date so couples should contact the Parish Center at least ONE YEAR in advance. All the necessary information will be sent to you. The attendance at Pre-Cana or an Engaged Encounter Weekend is required. One must be a registered member of the parish.

MEDITATION FOR DECEMBER 13TH Advent is a season of waiting in joyful hope for the coming of the Lord. Gaudate Sunday affirms the value of rejoicing and gives reasons for our rejoicing: God has given hope to his people waiting for

redemption. We wait with rejoicing for what God has already accomplished and will yet accomplish through Christ. In the first reading, Isaiah rejoices as he brings glad tidings of God’s vindication for his people. In the second reading, Paul encourages rejoicing as God prepares his people for the return of the Lord. In the Gospel, John testifies to the light and cries out in the desert to make straight the way of the Lord.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE This week the Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be in the home of Mel Marcelino. Please remember to pick up the 2 black bags and returning them and the statue back to the priest’s sacristy on Saturday, December 19th. While this virus is still circulating, would you please wipe down the statue with disinfectant not alcohol. Thank you for taking Our Lady on a journey through our parish.

REMINDER: ALL GIFTS FOR THE GIVING TREE, MUST BE RETURNED TODAY OR FIRST

THING TOMORROW MORNING TO THE PARISH OFFICE

“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

This scripture reading sums up Stewardship. “Rejoice always” means place your trust in God; He will provide all that you need. “Pray constantly” means prayer should be a running conversation with God throughout the whole day, every day. “Give thanks in all circumstances” means even in bad situations, thank God. Suffering a little bit helps build empathy for others in similar situations and shows our dependence on God. There was a $1,000 donation from Outreach Ministry to the South Brunswick Food Pantry for Thanksgiving meals. December 6th donations will be reported in a later bulletin, due to printer scheduling.

CHRISTMAS FLOWER DONATIONS

On December 19/20, we will have our Christmas Flower Collection. Please place your offering in with the regular collection. Those who contribute in the Christmas Flower collection will

be acknowledged in a bulletin in January. Please place the name of deceased family and friends on the back of the envelope, which will be placed by the Nativity, along with your special intentions which will be remembered in all our Christmas Masses.

The 1st Quarter Offering envelopes for 2021 should be sent out the end of this week. Please contact the Parish Center if you have not received them by year end, December 29th.

BLESSING OF A MANGER OR NATIVITY SCENE IN A PRIVATE HOME INTRODUCTORY RITES All make the sign of the cross as the Leader of Prayer says: Our help is in the name of the Lord. All reply: Who made heaven and earth. READING OF THE WORD OF GOD A reader or another person present reads the following text from sacred Scripture: Brothers and sisters, listen to the words of the Holy Gospel according to Luke: In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all went to be en-rolled, each to his own town. And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a man-ger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over there flock. After a moment of quiet reflection, the Leader of Prayer says: God of every nation and people, from the very beginning of creation you have made manifest your love: when our need for a Savior was great you sent your Son to be born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives he brings joy and peace, justice, mercy, and love. Lord, bless all who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus, and raise up our thoughts to him, who is God-with-us and Savior of all, and who lives and reigns for ever and ever. All reply: Amen.

MESSAGE FROM THE FOOD PANTRY

Our pantry shelves are overflowing! A huge THANK YOU to our Parishioners, Cub Scouts Pack 100, VFW, Knights of Columbus, the Columbiettes, and most especially to the St. Augustine School Community. They all generously donated food items for Thanksgiving. We received so many donations during the month, that we do not need any donations for December.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!!

KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PARISH OFFICE

Are you new to the area? Are you a registered member of the parish?? Are you moving???

If you have recently moved into the area and have not yet registered in the parish, we encourage you to become a registered member. You may do so in a variety of ways: you can ask an usher for a registration packet after Mass; by stopping by or calling the Parish Office to obtain a registration packet. Once registered, you will receive quarterly mailing of parish offertory envelopes.

The use of an Offertory envelope helps us to track Mass attendance which affects your status as an active or inactive parishioner. Mass attendance, not the content of the offertory envelope, is reviewed twice a year and a letter is sent to those who have not used their envelopes in a specified time period.

It is necessary to be an ACTIVE, REGISTERED member of the parish in order to obtain Sponsor Letters which are needed to act as Godparents for Baptism or Sponsors for Confirmation. Sponsor letters cannot be given to those considered inactive (or not registered). We also ask that anyone seeking to be married in our church or to baptize a child be registered in the parish. If you are moving out of the parish, please contact the office around the time of your move so we may change our records accordingly and avoid sending you envelopes you don’t need.

Any questions, please call the Parish Office, 732-297-3000.

INTENTIONS OF OUR HOLY FATHER We are invited to unite with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for this universal intention during the month

of December. For a Life of Prayer:. That our personal relationship with Jesus Christ be nourished by the Word of God and a life of prayer.

RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

We need your help!

Pope Francis said that every Christian is an active agent of evangelization. Every Christian who has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus is a missionary. And if a person has

welcomed this love that gives the meaning to his life, he cannot contain the desire to communicate it to others. We have a wonderful RCIA team, ready and willing to share the faith with those who seek a relationship with Jesus in the truth of the Catholic faith. But we need your help in identifying those who are possible candidates. It may be a neighbor, a friend, a family member or even a spouse whom you would recommend to us. RCIA is for those who have never been baptized, for those baptized in another Christian faith who would like to become Catholic or for baptized Catholics who need both First Communion and Confirmation to complete their Sacraments of Initiation. If you have discussed this possibility with anyone or know anyone who may be interested, please call the Parish Office (732-297-3000) and we will contact them immediately. Thank you for your help! Retirement Fund for Religious- Make a Difference

“Every dollar make a difference in covering our expenses,” says a Trappist abbot. Hundreds of US religious communities struggle to provide for aging members because most senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests served for little pay. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps these communities bridge the gap, offering support for medications, nursing care, and other necessities. Please be generous.

My First Christmas In Heaven I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below with tiny light, like Heavens, reflecting on the snow. The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tear, For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear. But the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas Choir up here. I have no words to tell you, the joy the voices bring, For it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing. I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart. But I am not so far away, We really aren't apart. So be happy for me, dear ones, You know I hold you dear, And be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above. I sent you each a memory of my undying love. After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold. It was always most important in the stories Jesus told. Please love and keep each other, as

BLESSING OF A CHRISTMAS TREE IN A PRIVATE HOME INTRODUCTORY RITES All make the sign of the cross as the Leader of Prayer says: Blessed be the name of the Lord All reply: Now and forever. The Leader of Prayer greets those present: Let us glorify Christ our light, who brings salvation and peace into our midst, now and forever. All reply: Amen. READING OF THE WORD OF GOD A reader or another person present reads the following text from sacred Scripture: Brothers and sisters, listen to the words of the apostle Paul to Titus: But when the kindness and generous love of God our Savior appeared, not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, He saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life. After a moment of quiet reflection, the Leader of Prayer says: Lord our God, we praise you for the light of creation: the sun, the moon, and the stars of the night. We praise you for the light of Israel: the Law, the prophets, and the wisdom of the Scriptures, We praise you for Jesus Christ, your Son: he is Emmanuel, God-with-us, the Prince of Peace, who fills us with the wonder of your love. Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we illumine this tree. May the light and cheer it gives be a sign of the joy that fills our hearts. May all who delight in this tree come to the knowledge and joy of salvation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. All reply: Amen.

A CHRISTMAS MEDITATION FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A LOVED ONE THIS YEAR

This poem was written by a 13-year old named Ben to his mother before he died of a brain tumor. He died in 1997, and that year he spent his first Christmas with Jesus.

So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear. Remember I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
