Catholic Communications 240.00 Light at the end of the tunnel is further than we had hoped: According to the Governor’s an-nouncements regarding Stay At Home 2, we are not at the point we can resume our regular mass schedule When we do resume, there is likely to be restrictions for distancing, how the Eucharist is han-dled, and how much socializing will be allowed We’ll do what we have to if it means we can gather around the Lord’s table once again. We will contin-ue to keep you advised of “the plans.” Home visits: because of the virus, we had to stop homebound visits. If you can’t come to church be-cause of age or illness and are comfortable with the pastor or the deacon bringing you Holy Communion at home, please let us know. It would be a privilege to bring our Eucharistic Lord to your home. Deacon Tom is planning on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Fa-ther Ray on Tuesdays and Fridays. Just call the office (934-5013) and leave a message.

Decorations for Memorial Day can be placed at the graves –remember no glass and please place items close to the headstone. All items will have to be removed with-in two weeks after Memorial Day (by Monday June 08) if you wish to keep the items.

Since we are not yet allowed to have public masses there will be no Mass on Memorial Day (this Monday) , neither at the Cemetery, nor in church. Also, the office and the food pantry will be closed.

Sanctuary Lamp

From this Sunday thru next Saturday, the sanctuary lamp in church will burn for these intentions: St. Paul’s: Wanda Hebert by Anna Mayo St. Mary’s: All Parishioners

ST. GABRIEL’S PRAYER LINE If you’d like to call in your prayer requests, this month’s contact is Jeanne Petrin at 455-9621. You can also write in your request in the book at either church.

Prayers Requested Wanda Hebert

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intentions for May - For Deacons: We pray that deacons, faithful in their ser-vice to the World and the poor, may be an invigorating symbol of the church.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK “They [my disciples] are still in the world while I am coming to You”. These are the words Jesus spoke shortly before He went to rejoin his Father in heaven. I’m sure that, as his apostles watched him rise through the clouds, they wished they were going with him. And who wouldn’t? We think of heaven as an awesome destination. And for good reason: Jesus described it as a place filled with peace, justice and eternal happiness. Who would not want to go there? And yet, most Christians, at the point of dying, are not looking for “Shangri-La” or paradise. They are fo-cused on people: they can’t wait to see their loved ones who have pre-deceased them, they worry about those they are leaving behind, they want to meet Je-sus, who has been such a big part of their life, and of course, they can’t wait to see God face to face. If they have lived long enough and well enough, they have come to see why Jesus advised them to be in the world without being of the world. Ever notice how children get attached to things? One of the first words they learn to say is “mine”. Their bed, their room,

their clothes, their toys, their candy, etc. As they grow up, they spend a lot of energy acquiring, accumulat-ing, securing and defending what they consider as theirs. And young adults seem to get even more at-tached to their “toys” and their assets than kids do. It takes a certain maturity to realize that “things” won’t bring you lasting happiness, meaning or a sense of accomplishment. Through the ages, many have tak-en a vow of poverty: they see material assets as more of an obstacle than a help. They have opted to follow Jesus’ example. He clearly showed his disciples how to go through the world without becoming worldly. He left this world with no more property than He came in with, and while he was here, he never owned more than what he needed. Jesus was a people person. He used the little he had to make a big difference in peo-ple’s lives. Lord, give me the maturity to place more value on the people who lift me up than on the things that drag me down.

Because the number of ‘Private Masses’ are limited, there are not enough masses for all intentions sched-uled. If your intention is not listed, it will be rescheduled. If an intention was noted for a special occasion, we gave it preference on the date originally requested.

LOOKING AHEAD Cemeteries: We have started burying and having graveside services. However, until this “Stay in Place” order is lifted, only about ten family members are allowed to attend. If you have lost a loved one recently, why not delay the burial until everyone can attend? Also, if you want to schedule a memorial Mass (funeral), consider a weekend Mass unless you expect a large turnout. This will assure that more people are praying for your loved one. By the way, since public Masses are not allowed at least thru the end of this month, the Cemetery Mass can’t take place. Hopefully, next year!!! Confirmation: Will probably take place in the Fall (after Labor Day). We’ll let you know when.

With the concern over the Coronavirus people cannot attend Mass,. Unfortunately our bills do not stop. Have you con-sidered continuing your support of your parish by E-Giving? Check out the option on our web page: www.stgabrielnh.org. We thank you!

BEING THERE FOR EACH OTHER Just because we are adhering to social dis-tancing does not mean that we need to ne-glect our neighbors. There is a lot we can

do for others and still maintain a safe distance. * Check on your elderly neighbors, see if you can help by doing their grocery shopping, getting their mail or newspaper, prescriptions, etc.; * Maybe you can drop off a meal or share some cook-ies or other treat; * Send food or gift cards to someone who has lost their job. Care for their children so they can get a break. * Help with yard work or Spring cleaning.

Church Visits: If you would like to enter the church to pray, please come by the office and get a key. The of-fice is open Monday thru Thursday 9 AM until 4 PM. The weekly adoration at St. Mary church will continue on Tuesdays from 1:15 PM until 3:15 PM.

Parents of Students Receiving Sacraments: As you know, the ceremony for First Eucharist and Confirmation scheduled for Sunday, May 3 was post-poned. The Bishop will delegate the pastor to adminis-ter Confirmation. NO DATE HAS BEEN SET, but it will probably take place after Labor Day. We’ll need a ses-sion or two to prepare the candidates for this important sacrament. Once the date has been set, parents will receive a letter with the details for the preparation ses-sions, practice and ceremony.

Congratulations Graduates! To all our High School and College graduates, St. Gabriel Parish offers

heartfelt congratulations and prayers that God will bless all your future en-

deavors. May the Lord Bless You and Keep You!
