Repent & Believe in the Gospel Dear People and Friends of Saint Josephs, As we begin our annual Lenten Pilgrimage as Disciples of the Lord, the words from Ash Wednesday still echo in our ears: Remember you are dust, and unto dust you shall return,as well as Repent and believe in the Gospel.These two exhortations of Ash Wednesday challenge us to acknowledge the truth of our reality, so that we may live in fuller communion with the LORD through the Fathers LOVE and MERCY. Many people associate Lent with negative sentiments, suffering, and hardship. Yet, this association is misplaced, for it is sin, not Lent, that causes them. This Lent presents itself, with all that has been occurring in the Church, as a particularly urgent and poignant time for repentance, purification, and renewal on the personal and communal levels. The LORD calls us to be his Intentional Disciples, not only as individuals dedicated to holiness, but as persons committed to building communities of Intentional Disciples, communities in which we assist and support one another in this journey to God. The reality of our mortality and the morality of all those we love together with the invitation to repent give us hope, for only acknowledging our doomed condition without God and his merciful invitation to turn back to Him motivate us to grow in our relationship with the LORD. Otherwise we can be tempted to hide from our mortality or feel powerless to change. Repentance entails acknowledging the destructiveness of sin, rejecting it, and turning back to the LORD. Repentance accepts that the LORD wants us to turn back to Him. Repentance, therefore, moves us away from sin, selfishness, and all that is contrary to Gods will and closer to God. Repentance often times proves to be difficult, because sin can be deeply entrenched in our lives as sinful habits and attitudes. Sometimes sin looks very appealing or we have grown so accustomed to it and are not interested in changing. No matter how attractivesin appears, sin always encumbers our relationships with God and others and yields sadness. The motivation to repent, to turn back to God and to forsake our prideful, rebellious ways springs from the Gospel. We choose sin, because we think those choices will make us happy; but sin never does. The Good News of Gods immense love for us, his mercy that has the power to transform us, and our capacity to respond motivate us to turn back to the LORD. Without this inspiration, changing would seem futile. Believing in the Gospel gives us Hope. Guided by this years Lenten theme, Journeying from Woundedness to New Life, may we recognize each day of Lent as part of a progression, a pilgrimage as Gods Chosen People that leads us away from our brokenness to a deeper communion with God. As we make this journey, may we be more sensitive to those around us who lack this hope, knowledge or strength to accept the invitation to, Repent and Believe in the Gospel.In the Grace of Christ Jesus, Fr. Repent & Believe in the Gospel

Dear People and Friends of Saint Joseph’s,

As we begin our annual Lenten Pilgrimage as Disciples of the Lord, the words from Ash Wednesday still echo in our ears: “Remember you are dust, and unto dust you shall return,” as well as “Repent and believe in the Gospel.” These two exhortations of Ash Wednesday challenge us to acknowledge the truth of our reality, so that we may live in fuller communion with the LORD through the Father’s LOVE and MERCY.

Repentance, therefore, moves us away from sin, selfishness, and all that is contrary to God’s will and closer to God. Repentance often times proves to be difficult, because sin can be deeply entrenched in our lives as sinful habits and attitudes. Sometimes sin looks very appealing or we have grown so accustomed to it and are not interested in changing. No matter how “attractive” sin appears, sin always encumbers our relationships with God and others and yields sadness.

The motivation to repent, to turn back to God and to

forsake our prideful, rebellious ways springs from the Gospel. We choose sin, because we think those choices will make us happy; but sin never does. The Good News of God’s immense love for us, his mercy that has the

power to transform us, and our capacity to respond motivate us to turn back to the LORD. Without this inspiration, changing would seem futile. Believing in the Gospel gives us Hope.

Guided by this year’s Lenten theme, Journeying from Woundedness to New Life, may we recognize each day of Lent as part of a progression, a pilgrimage as God’s Chosen People that leads us away from our brokenness to a deeper communion with God. As we make this journey, may we be more sensitive to those around us who lack this hope, knowledge or strength to accept the invitation to, “Repent and Believe in the Gospel.”

In the Grace of Christ Jesus,

Fr. Allan F. Wolfe

The Diocesan Annual Campaign The Diocesan Annual Campaign, formerly

known at the Bishop’s Annual Lenten Appeal, effectively enables us as Catholics to provide and participate in the important work of the Church in our diocese, and thus bring Jesus to others.

Here at Saint Joseph’s we will launch the Diocesan Annual Campaign with our In-Pew Pledging on the weekends of March 16th-17th and March 23rd-24th. This year’s parish goal is $87,000 and with the participation of every family, we will be able to fulfill this responsibility. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

INDIVIDUAL & PARISH RENEWAL THRU INTENTIONAL DISCIPLESHIP

As athletes must train to become proficient in their sport, so Christians must cultivate our relationship with the Lord through

the habits or disciplines of discipleship. Disciplines of Intentional Discipleship In this second month of 2019 let us

intentionally embracing the Six Disciplines of Discipleship and decide concretely how we will use them in our daily living:

Daily Scripture Reading

Daily Prayer

Intentional Sacramental Life

Fellowship

Service to the World

Sharing Christ with Others (Evangelization)

Daily Prayer

Our communication with God we call PRAYER. It strengthens our communion with Him, because it is not just words—

prayers—but is an openness and intimacy. Like good communication, prayer must be taught and learned. There are many

forms of expressed prayer— thanksgiving, petition, praise, and intercession.

NEW at St. Joseph’s - Intercessory Prayer after Mass

Beginning the first Sunday of April and every 1st Sunday of each month, Mass attendees will

have the opportunity to have a prayer team pray over them as the Holy Mass concludes;

Stationed in front of the Shrines to the Blessed Mother and to Saint Joseph, the prayer teams will

pray for a specific, mentioned need or in general for anyone who wants to come forward;

Intercessory Prayer demonstrates our TRUST in God both on the part of the intercessors and the

one seeking the prayer;

This form of Intercessory Prayer gives visible form to all the intercessory praying that occurs day in and day out by

parishioners in their homes, in the Adoration Chapel, in nursing homes, at work and by the communion of saints;

Jesus encourages this type of prayer: “I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to

pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father;”

To promote an atmosphere conducive to prayer, ALL are encouraged to maintain a reverential silence following the

recessional hymn
