SIXTH SUNDAY of EASTER the fulfillment of the promises given to the fathers; give to the Father for his glory the priests of your Son, O Ark of the Covenant.

O Mother of the Church, in the midst of the disciples in the upper room you prayed to the Spirit for the new people and their shepherds; obtain for the Order of Presbyters a full measure of gifts, O Queen of the Apostles.

O Mother of Jesus Christ, you were with him at the beginning of his life and mission, you sought the Master among the crowd, you stood beside him when he was lifted up from the earth consumed as the one eternal sacrifice, and you had John, your son, near at hand; accept from the beginning those who have been called, protect their growth, in their life ministry accompany your sons, O Mother of Priests. Amen. (Pastores Dabo Vobis, #82)

Fr. Allan F. Wolfe

The New Jerusalem

Dear People and Friends of Saint Joseph’s,

Christ is Risen; Truly He is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! On this Sixth Sunday of Easter, the Scriptures remind us that the Risen Lord shares his New Life with us through His Church. The Book of Revelation today emphasizes that the Lord God is present to His people through the New Jerusalem, an image of the Church. In John’s vision, the holy city has no temple—the place of ENCOUNTER with the Lord—for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb themselves are its ‘temple.’ Thus, through the Church, we no longer approach God in a veiled form, but experience the Lord more personally and directly.

The Church, as the community of disciples, is built upon the faith and witness of the 12 Apostles, who are our foundation. And how are we now connected with the Lord, the Apostles and maintained in the faith? Jesus’ words in the Gospel comfort us: “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.”

Through this apostolic witness and Spirit-led faith, the Good Shepherd, risen from the dead, continues to form us as His Flock and to guide, protect, and lead us to the fullness of life. Through the sacraments of Jesus’ Church, we experience the power of the Holy Spirit, who shapes us into this New Jerusalem.

As we conclude this month dedicated to Mary, Mother of the Church, and prepare to receive four new priests in the Diocese of Harrisburg this Saturday, let us seek her motherly intercession for those whom her Son has called to serve His Church as living icons of the Good Shepherd:

O Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ and Mother of priests, accept this title which we bestow on you to celebrate your motherhood and to contemplate with you the priesthood of your Son and of your sons, O holy Mother of God.

O Mother of Christ, to the Messiah-priest you gave a body of flesh through the anointing of the Holy Spirit for the salvation of the poor and the contrite of heart; guard priests in your heart and in the Church, O Mother of the Savior.

O Mother of Faith, you accompanied to the Temple the Son of Man,
