The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
June 3, 2018
The Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ
Corpus christi
Pan de Vida, cuerpo del Senor, Cup of blessing, Blood of Christ the Lord.
At this table the last shall be first, Poder es server, porque Dios es amor.
We’ve introduced a new communion hymn this season – PAN DE VIDA.
Bread of Life, Body of Christ, Cup of blessing, Blood of Christ the Lord.
At this table, the last shall be first. Power is for service, because God is love.
What a humbling message for us as we move through Ordinary Time. We are to “inspect” our
lives and see HOW we are living as disciples of the Lord; that is as God, creator, redeemer and sancti-
fier and as a disciple who calls forth from our world brothers and sisters in unity and strength.
Both last week’s Feast of The Most Holy Trinity and today’s Feast of The Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ move us to check out our lives and IF we are living well as disciples of the Lord. You
do know that NO WHERE in the Scriptures – either the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) or the
Christian Scriptures (New Testament and Gospels) does it say, quoting Jesus, “come be my volunteer!”
Rather the Lord calls us to “be his disciples.” No such thing as a volunteer Catholic. No such thing as
a volunteer Christian. No such thing as a volunteer parishioner. No such thing as a volunteer whatso-
ever. We are disciples! And disciples live and breathe the life of God – glorifying the Lord by our
lives. SO, do this and you will live!
I know summer seems like such a lazy time and so many take the summer off, so to speak,
from their regular routines. It amazes me that other “things” occupy us when in fact, it is the Lord and
His life, death and resurrection that MUST occupy our lives FIRST and FOREMOST before all else. So,
make Him Lord and make Him count in these lazy, hazy days of summer! BECOME HIS DISCIPLES at
home, at work, at rest and at play!
AND THANK YOU for your generous SUPPORT in the Sunday Collections. Blessings.
Father John

“We Must Have Jesus To Give Him To
Others”
The Church… has entrusted us with the
great apostolate to bring Christ into the
hearts of our people. We must give Jesus
to them. But unless we have Jesus, we
cannot give Him. That is why we need the Eucharist.
It is true, our way of life is difficult. It has to be like
that. It is not only the material poverty, but the pov-
erty of being surrounded by suffering people, by
death. Only the Eucharist, only Jesus, can give us the
joy of doing the work with a smile.

The Most Holy Body and Blood - Weekend of June 9th
Ministry Schedules
Music Ministry & Liturgy Notes
By Angela Kovacs Director of Music and Liturgy
THE BODY AND THE BLOOD
It’s part two of the Ordinary Time Opening Feast celebra-
tions! This weekend is the celebration of the Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ. This feast, formerly known as
Corpus Christi, celebrates the real presence of our Lord Jesus
Christ within the host and wine that we take during mass.
During the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the offering of bread
and wine are changed in essence from regular, earthly items
to the body and blood of Christ. This Roman Catholic teach-
ing was expressed in doctrine at the Fourth Council of the
Lateran in 1215. Through the instrumentation of the priest to
perform the necessary ceremony, Jesus Christ physically
extends himself across the nation and the world, reaching out
to all who yearn for him with their hearts.
We will be singing Pan de Vida again this weekend! Since
we are celebrating the Body and Blood of Christ this week-
end and the Eucharist, which is a universal event, I feel that
it is most appropriate. Thank you to all for your singing last
week; your voices inspired me during the mass! Pro tip: in
Spanish, if there is the letter D in between two vowels, then
it is pronounced as the ‘th’ of the word “the”! For example,
the first phrase, “pan de vida,” the last word is pronounced
VEE-the, instead of VEE-duh. I hope this helps out!
Traditional Choir, Contemporary Choir, and Youth
Choir are off for the summer. All choir members are wel-
come to sing up in the loft during weekend masses. Summer
is a perfect time to audition for involvement in one of our
ensembles, especially for prelude solos! If you are interested
in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing
an instrument during mass, please call or see me after mass
up in the loft. Please contact the music ministry office for
more information: 440.243.3877 ext 27.
Congratulations to Fr. John
as he celebrates his anniver-
sary of Ordination to the
Priesthood on June 12th.
The Staff and Parish extends
best wishes to you and may
you receive God’s continued
blessing on this happy occasion!
Happy Anniversary
Family Perspective
Today’s gospel talks about the last supper of Jesus. No-
tice that this meal, like all the other meals in Jesus’ life
growing up in Nazareth, started with a blessing. When
we eat as a family it is important to start with a prayer.
Praying reminds us that we sit at a table to do more than
eat. We gather to share our lives and to strengthen the
bond that calls us to live our lives for one another.
