WELCOME
Welcome to the Saint Spyridon Cathedral in Worcester, Massachusetts. We are honored that you have
chosen to worship with us today. It is our hope that your visit here will bring you many blessings from
God. Please be sure to tell us if you are visiting or if you are new to our community. Our Church Fam-
ily worships the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and every Sunday, the Lords Day, we
commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to live the Holy Gospel in accordance
with the Orthodox Faith; towards sanctification through Gods grace in worship, the Divine Liturgy
and the Sacraments: glorifying God through all joys and struggles; and as a Church Community, in
Christian love, we seek to do His will so that through His mercy, we may attain His Kingdom. We are
blessed to have the slippers of St. Spyridon, which are located in the narthex of the Church, please be
sure to venerate them. We pray you have a blessed day and that you visit with us again soon. Also,
please remember that one must be an Orthodox Christian in order to receive Holy Communion. If you
would like to embrace the Orthodox Faith, please see Father Dimitrios Moraitis. May God Bless you!

Entrance Hymns
Apolytikion
When Thou didst descend unto death, O Life Immortal, then didst Thou slay Hades with the lightning of Thy Divinity. And when Thou didst also raise the dead out of the nethermost depths, all the powers in the Heavens cried out: O Life-giver, Christ our God, glory be to Thee.

Kontakion
O Protection of Christians that cannot be
put to shame, mediation unto the creator
most constant: O despise not the voices of
those who have sinned; but be quick, O
good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith
cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and
speed thou to make supplication, O thou
who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them
that honor thee.
For The Memorials
Keep Thy servants in remembrance, O
Lord, since Thou art good; and do Thou for-
give every sin in this life; for no man is
without sin, except for Thee Who art able to
grant rest even unto him who has departed
hence.
Saint Spyridon
Father, God-bearer, Spyridon, you were
proven a champion and Wonder Worker of
the First Ecumenical Council. You spoke to
the girl in the grave and turned the serpent to
gold. And, when chanting your prayers, most
sacred One, angels ministered with you.
Glory to Him who glorified you; glory to
Him who crowned you; glory to Him who,
through you, works healing for all.

EPISTLE
Their voice has gone out into all the earth.
Verse: The heavens declare the glory of
God.
The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the
Romans 5:1-10
Brethren, since we are justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus Christ. Through him we have ob-
tained access by faith to this grace in
which we stand, and we rejoice in our
hope of sharing the glory of God. More
than that, we rejoice in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering produces endur-
ance, and endurance produces character,
and character produces hope, and hope
does not disappoint us, because God's love
has been poured into our hearts through
the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.
While we were still weak, at the right time
Christ died for the ungodly. Why, one will
hardly die for a righteous man -- though
perhaps for a good man one will dare even
to die. But God shows his love for us in
that while we were yet sinners Christ died
for us. Since, therefore, we are now justi-
fied by his blood, much more shall we be
saved by him from the wrath of God. For
if while we were enemies we were recon-
ciled to God by the death of his Son, much
more, now that we are reconciled, shall we
be saved by his life.
5:1-10

THE HOLY GOSPEL
The Lord said, "The eye is the lamp of the
body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole
body will be full of light; but if your eye is not
sound, your whole body will be full of dark-
ness. If then the light in you is darkness, how
great is the darkness! No one can serve two
masters; for either he will hate the one and love
the other, or he will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve God and
mammon. Therefore I tell you, do not be anx-
ious about your life, what you shall eat or what
you shall drink, nor about your body, what you
shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the
body more than clothing? Look at the birds of
the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather
into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds
them. Are you not of more value than they?
And which of you by being anxious can add
one cubit to his span of life? And why are you
anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of
the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor
spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his
glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if
God so clothes the grass of the field, which to-
day is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the
oven, will he not much more clothe you, O
men of little faith? Therefore do not be anx-
ious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall
we drink?' or 'What shall we wear? For the
Gentiles seek all these things; and your heav-
enly Father knows you need them all. But seek
first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all
these things shall be yours as well."

The fast for the Holy Apostles has begun and ends on June 29.

It is customary in many places to bless fragrant herbage on the Feast of the Dormition.
In some places, the Rite of the "Burial of the Theotokos" is celebrated at the Dormition, during the All-Night Vigil. The order of the service is based on the service of the Burial of Christ on Great Saturday. An Epitaphios of the Theotokos, a richly embroidered cloth icon portraying her lying in state is used, together with specially composed hymns of lam-
entation which are sung with Psalm 118. Special Evlogitaria for the Dormition are chanted, echoing the Evlogitaria of the Resurrection chanted at matins on Sundays throughout the year as well as on Lazarus Saturday and Great Saturday. This Epitaphios is placed on a bier and carried in procession as is the Epitaphios of Christ on during Great Saturday.
The Dormition of the Theotokos
Dormition fast The Feast of the Dormition is preceded by a two-week fast, referred to as the Dormition Fast. From August 1 to August 14 Orthodox and Eastern Catholics fast from red meat, poultry, meat products, dairy products (eggs and milk products), fish, oil, and wine. The Dormition Fast is a stricter fast than either the Nativity Fast or the Apostles' Fast, with only wine and oil (but no fish) allowed on weekends. As with the other Fasts of the Church year, there is a Great Feast that falls during the Fast; in this case, the Transfiguration (August 6), on which fish, wine and oil are allowed.
In some places, the services on weekdays during the Fast are similar to the services dur-ing Great Lent (with some variations). Many churches and monasteries in the Russian tra-dition perform the lenten services on at least the first day of the Dormition Fast. In the Greek tradition, during the Fast either the Great Paraklesis (Supplicatory Canon) or the Small Paraklesis is celebrated every evening except Saturday evening and the Eves of the Transfiguration and the Dormition.
