  • Chaplain’s Weekly News 23rd December

    Chaplain’s Prayer for the week

God of glory, lift up our gaze from our animals,

their husbandry and all the daily cares of our

farming life to see the tiny shining presence of

your new born Son. We pray that his light will fill

our lives with Comfort and Joy this Christmas.

    Do not fear

Contributed by Deacon Alison McCauley, Melton Mowbray. (edited for this news)

This year seems to have sped by as we have been constantly

looking to the future, waiting and wondering when we can see

our family again, when we can travel, when we can hug our

loved ones, when we can be vaccinated against this dreadful

virus. It has been a year of fear and anxiety. Our farmers, not only

have dealt with all this but also had to process the ramifications

of Brexit and keep an eye on the constant

    unpredictable weather.A reading in Advent

is taken from Luke’s Gospel ‘ –Do not fear ’the

Angel Gabriel said to Mary. Wonderful,

obedient Mary. Mary who was ‘deeply

    troubled’, ‘confused and disturbed ’and

    ‘thoroughly shaken’.Those are words that

could apply to any of us at some time over

these last few months. The phrases ‘do not be

afraid’, ‘fear not ’and other similar phrases appear in the Bible

365 times. It’s good to think that God tells us not to be afraid,

once for every day of the year. These phrases are usually

followed by the assurance of God’s almighty power and

reassurance of his constant presence in our lives. Try this little

reminder: fill in the blank with your own worry, take it to God and

leave it there, knowing he hears you even when we can’t hear

him. ‘When I’m afraid of…, I will trust in you O Lord. ’Prayers don’t

need to be long. He hears them all. Amen.Fr Clive Sabbatical

He will be away until the end of March.Revd. Ronnie Crossman
