COMMUNAL BLESSING OF WHEELCHAIRS AND HEALTH AID DEVICES September 28-29, 2013 At All Masses

It is often customary to bless a home, auto or boat; so why not a medical device used for the necessity of everyday living. Motorized wheelchairs,

manual wheelchairs, braces, walkers, canes, prosthesis, walking sticks, crutches, and even pacemakers are some of the tools that bridge the gap between illness and health for many in our community. A special blessing is planned for September 28 and 29

at all the mass. Anyone who wishes to have their wheelchair or medical device blessed is welcome to join us. If you have any questions, please contact the parish office.

PARISH NEWS PLEASE NOTE:

The Pastoral Office will be closed next week on Monday, September 30 for a Staff Retreat.

We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, October 1 at 9 a.m.

Workers in the Vineyard needed! Have you ever considered giving your time and talent to your parish community but were unsure where your help might be needed? If you answered “yes”, then the Liturgy Ministry is looking for you. We are currently

looking for more workers in our vineyard. We are in need of Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, and Hospitality Ministers at all masses and Adult Altar Servers for the Saturday, 4 p.m. and Sunday, 7 a.m. Masses. If you would like more information about these ministries or would like to register for training, please contact Stacy Pincus at 825-9611, x109.

At this time, we have the following training sessions scheduled. If you would like to take part in one of these ministries, but are unable to make the training session, please contact Stacy to discuss further options.

Lector Training: Saturday, October 19 at 10 a.m.

Eucharistic Minister Training: Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Adult Altar Server Training: Monday, October 14, at 10 a.m.

NEW PRAYER CHAIN MINISTRY

A group of parishioners have organized a prayer chain ministry and are ready to receive prayer requests. If you want them to pray for a person or intention, call the parish receptionist at 825-9611, x 100, to make your request. The office will forward the request to Judy Roseberry, the Prayer Chain leader. The prayer chain members (about 18) are encouraged to pray immedi-ately for the intention and to include it in their daily prayers. Please note: this is different than requesting a name to be placed on the parish prayer list that is included in the bulletin. You will need to do that request separately, if you wish it.

Thank you to this new group for offering this ministry to the parish.

PARISH BEREAVEMENT CLASSES BEGIN OCTOBER 21 A Swedish proverb states, “Shared joy is joy doubled; shared sorrow is sorrow halved.” With this in mind, our parish is sponsoring a 5-session class on Tuesdays, October 2—November 18, 1-2:30 p.m.

It is a safe, confidential setting in which information about the process of grief is shared as well as elements of healing. The group will share experiences, prayer, and rituals. Gloria Brown and Judy Rossman, Stephen Ministers, will lead the group. It is designed for someone who has lost a loved one, recently or a few years past. Registration is required and attendance at each session is requested. Call Judy at 825-9611, x104 for more information and registration.

C.A.R.E. Ministry is looking for new members Want to bring communion to those in our parish who cannot attend Mass? The C.A.R.E. Ministry is offering a five-week training ses-sion beginning Tuesday, October 31 from 1-3 p.m. These training sessions will include practice in leading prayer, role plays, skills and practice on being a good listener, proper handling of the Eucharist, and practice visits. An application and a reference back-ground check are required.

For more information about this ministry or for an application packet, please call Judy at 825-9611, x104.

The parish currently visits approxi-mately 50 parishioners in their homes, plus daily Oro Valley Hos-pital visits, and two assisted living facility Communion Services. This important ministry needs more ministers to respond spiritually to those in our parish who feel isolated and discour-aged. Please consider offering your gifts to the parish in this ministry.

Children’s Choir Starting in October

Rehearsals for Children’s Choir begin on Monday, October 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Church. Rehearsals will run for 45-60 minutes.

Aside from being an altar server, choir is a great ministry open to children. Being a part of ministry, at an early age, creates the foundation of a lifelong commitment to being an active member of the Church community. When a child begins their Church life being involved, that desire continues to grow regardless of which ministry is chosen later in life.

For more info or to register, please contact Victoria Kinghorn, at [email protected].

Please consider taking our community to the next level by engaging our youngest members in ministry.

HEALTH & WELLNESS NEWS Women’s Health & Fitness Day is celebrated on September 25, this

day focuses attention on the importance of regular physical activity and health awareness for women. Let’s encourage one another to take good care of the bodies God has gifted us with!

LIFE TEEN GOSPEL REFLECTION - (JOHN 3:13-17) This story in the Gospel of Luke can be a confusing one. Why would the master praise the steward for taking further amounts of money from him? This, however, is not the reason for the master's praise. The master, our Lord, is disappointed in the steward, us, because of his sins and dishonest ways. The master then praises the steward, not for his further sin, but for his brilliant planning. This displays how desensitized we become to our God. Just as the steward had a perfectly comfortable and good lifestyle under his master, we have the opportunity and the invitation to be close to our God and live under his wing forever. And just as the steward took advantage of his master, we take that invitation for granted and forget about the significance of what we are given. We sin, we lie, we connive and then we justify those actions with excuses. However, just as the master commended the stewards thinking, God still accepts us and invites us into his embrace time after time. Even though it is difficult to remember from day to day, we are so completely, utterly blessed to be loved by our God. I can get so distracted with school, friends, media, etc. that I forget about the important, integral parts of my life: God. It is so important to not only be aware, but to respond and reciprocate our God's love for us.

His presentation has been pre-recorded with open captioning so it is easy to follow for everybody.

Following the presentation we will discuss the video and how it relates to our own hearing loss and how we cope with it. Light refreshments provided.

Please note: This support group meeting uses 8 Wireless Micro-phones connected to a Hearing Loop.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Pro Life Committee

Throughout the Old Testament there is repeated emphasis on the humanity of the unborn. God had plans for us before we were born. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.” Jeremiah 1:5

David discusses the spiritual state he was in before he was born (his personhood began before conception). “Behold, I was born in guilt, in sin my mother conceived me.” Psalm 51:5
