Rites associated with the RCIA will be conducted at the 9:00 AM Mass on the following dates:
March 11 - First Scrutiny
March 18 - Second Scrutiny
March 25 - Third Scrutiny
These Rites are an expression of our community’s faith and replace the reciting of the Creed. They also include Prayers of the Faith-ful. Though there is some change in the rubrics, there should be mini-mal impact on the length of the liturgy.
Happy Lent! Lent is a time of
preparation to celebrate once again
the fact
that Jesus loved us so much that he willing
ly suffered, died and rose again. Le
nt
is a time to reflect on our lives and
see what we can do to better ourse
lves and
celebrate the resurrection. This is
not a sad time, but a time filled wit
h joy and
anticipation. It is not a time to bea
t ourselves up, but a time to change
through
self discovery and discipline. It is n
ot a time to mourn the loss of Jesu
s’ life,
but a time to rejoice in the resurre
ction. Let’s all take time this Lenten season
to reflect on our lives and prepare
to celebrate the Resurrection at Eas
ter.
Last Saturday, we held ou
r Goodies, Gadgets and Gizmos Sale and I wo
uld
like to thank Carol Fierling and all h
er helpers for their hard work.
Last week in the prayers of th
e faithful, I include a prayer for
Robert Moorman who is scheduled to b
e executed soon. There will be an−
other prayer, in the future, for Robert Towery who
is also on death row
here in Arizona. Some people questioned the dec
ision to pray for these
men, but I felt the need to pray fo
r them not to forget what they ha
ve
done, but to forgive them. As Bishop
Kicanas wrote in his Monday memo,
“There is no condoning the crimes
of the violent and horrific taking
of innocent life. This cries out for pun
ishment. But Pope John Paul II
emphasized in his teaching that there is no lo
nger a need for society
to protect itself by taking the life of
another person. Today, a life
sentence serves to protect society an
d to punish serious crime. Still, we
continue to execute people in the Stat
e of Arizona. Let us pray for
enlightenment, not only in the cases o
f these two men whose executions
are imminent, but also for solutions as
to how we can punish crime and
protect society without, as Pope John Paul II said, co
ntributing to the
culture of death.”
For the next two weekends, I wi
ll be giving Rachel’s Vineyard
retreats, this weekend in Denver and
the following weekend here in
Tucson at the Redemptorist Renewal Center. Please pray for the
12
men and women attending the Denver
retreat and the 10 attending
the Tucson retreat.
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
Change Our Hearts. The Lord calls us to forgive others as He forgives us. You may have been
hurt by someone in your family. You may have been slighted by a friend. Forgive. To forgive is so hard to do but it frees us, liberates us. Try this Lent to forgive and to seek forgiveness from those we may have hurt. We worship a forgiving God, Our Father who is always waiting for His son or daughter to come back home. Seek God’s for-giveness in the Sacrament of Pen-ance this Lent and strive to forgive as we are forgiven. Make our hearts more forgiving this Lent.

ABSTINENCE AND FASTING Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday,
Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years and older.
Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted as necessary to maintain strength according to one's needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast and abstinence are observed on Good Friday and, where possible, Holy Saturday. On these days, Christians prepare themselves by these disciplines in anticipation of the renewal of their baptismal commitment on Easter. From its earliest days, the Church has urged the baptized and the catechumens to observe the threefold discipline of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer as a preparation for the celebration of Easter. Failure to observe individual days of penance is not considered serious, but failure to observe any penitential days at all or a substantial number of such days must be considered serious. During Lent, the Church encourages attendance at daily Mass, self-imposed times of fasting, and generosity to local, national, and worldwide programs of sharing. Days of abstinence are indicated with a fish on the Santa Catalina parish calendar.

GOODIES, GADGETS AND GIZMO SALE
A special thank you to all the parishioners that supported the GGG sale with donations this year. Your generosity made it another great success. Our net proceeds were
$3406 which will be used for additional landscaping needs on our parish grounds.
Father Larry drew the winning ticket for the beautiful Ted Blaylock signed and numbered lithograph
after the 9am mass on Sunday. The thrilled winner was Carolyn Bewalda.
The Martha’s Kitchen folk made almost $135.00. Mar-tha’s Kitchen main focus is to supply funeral lunches for the family members of the deceased. There were a lot of
wonderful goodies baked by these dedicated ladies.

I AM …worthy of love. Saturday, March 17, 9am-4pm Redemptorist Renewal Center The number of people who deep down don’t believe they are lovable seems to be reaching epidemic proportions to-day. We shackled ourselves with these negative beliefs and then we attracted negativity and pain into our lives through these miserable beliefs. That's the bad news. Now here's the good news: We can let go of these old nega-tive believes and develop new positive beliefs. We can take an honest look at ourselves and choose to believe we are wonderfully made by God.
If you are tired of being your own worst enemy, come learn how to be-come your own best friend. When you become the best thing that ever hap-pened to you, all of the world will fol-low suit!

Knights of Columbus - Pro Life Committee The love of God has no exceptions. The command He gives us to “Love one another as I have loved
you.” [John 15:12] The Christian is not free to discriminate or to exclude anyone from his or her love. Such exclusion is incompatible with the love of God Himself. This is the basis for saying that no innocent human life may ever be
deliberately destroyed. This is the root and source of the unchanging truth that no abortion is ever justified.
