Lab 5 Going Wild in Dorset Weird and Wonderful Wings Have a go at naming the butterflies, matching the wings and other hands-on activities. Animal Detective Quiz See the signs that animals leave behind, and use the clues to decipher which animal left them. Reptiles from Heathland Spot local reptile species from their scaly skin. GENEsis Laboratory Learn about ticks and Lyme disease. Let our sixth formers guide you and, using chromatography, discover which of our ‘cuddly’ ticks is carrying the disease.

Lab 7 Nature and Environment Teams of researchers from the University of Southampton will offer a range of environmentally-themed activities, including bioenergy from waste, biodiversity and the natural world, sustainability challenges.

Lab 8 Catchment Models Play and learn about rivers and how activities from farming and factories to homes and cars can affect their catchments. When is a plastic bag not a plastic bag? Getting carried away with eco-friendly plastics. Semiconductors - the in-betweeners Learn about the fabulous materials that make computers and mobile phones work, their important role converting the sun’s energy into electricity in solar panels.

Make a ‘jumping bean’ to take home. Celebrate UK Fungus Day -draw or make your favourite fungus; take away a ‘Grow your own oyster mushroom’ kit; identify a mushroom.

These are being provided by the Stratford and Trenchard College Charity Committees.

All money received will go to help support two local charities: Weldmar Hospice which provides

palliative care and Julia’s House which helps life-limited children and their families in Dorset.
