SaturdayAll Day Class Basic Power Carving and Filigree by Bonnie Gibson PRICE $75 Photos are examples of the techniques , NOT necessarily what you will create in class, every student will make something unique.DESCRIPTION: This class is perfect for those who want to learn how to get more out of a Dremel tool or other brand of rotary carver. In this class, you'll learn about using your power tool more effectively, & all about different types of burs & what they do. You'll learn techniques & will carve sand ripples, basic relief carving, & carving for inlay. More advanced students can try some more advanced versions of the designs. In the afternoon, we will explore basic filigree carving. Carving safety & types of equipment will be discussed. The instructor has 35 years of carving experience & has taught carving classes for almost 20 years. I look forward to showing you how to do things with less effort & more fun! Supplies (other than gourds and personal tools) for class are included in the cost of the class. STUDENTS MUST BRING: a cleaned and cut open gourd suitable for carving. Bring a power rotary tool (Dremel, Micromotor, Foredom etc, preferably NOT a rechargeable model or a $10 carver from Harbor Freight) and any burrs/accessories you have on hand. The gourd will work best if it is about 1/4 thick after cleaning, and if it does NOT have a neck. Gourds that are in the 5-8” range will work the best, but we will work with whatever you have if necessary. Bring a basic tool box (pencil, sanding tools if you own them, etc. Bring an Xacto knife with a NEW SHARP blade) Bring some kind of eye protection (glasses, bifocals, safety glasses, etc,) and a respirator or N95 rated dust mask. DESCRIPTION: This class is perfect for all skill levels; students will wood burn a fox,

then create a woodland design with colored pencils to bring this Fox to life.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a wood burner with skew or knife tips/pens; colored pencil set

if you have one; instructor will use prima pencils.

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Everything else needed to complete this project.

Students may not finish project in class, however they will leave with the “know how” to

finish project at home

Lampwork, Holiday & Woodsy

PRICE $45 Maximum students-10

DESCRIPTION: Students will learn to create a fun, “double buttonhole technique”, with Jewelry

cord, on a metal ring, & then stitch treated long leaf pine needles with waxed linen thread to create the most fun &

decorative ornaments. Since there is only time to make 1 ornament in class, students will have the choice to create

either the lampwork or holiday ornament. The instructor will discuss & display sample ornaments. STUDENTS MUST BRING: a sharp pair of scissors & needle nose pliers;

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Cleaned & prepared pine needles as well as all other supplies needed to create &

finish all three ornaments; PLUS a complete tutorial to create each of three ornaments again on your own.

Dotty About Mandalas

DESCRIPTION: Students will learn to create a fun, 16 point mandala using

acrylic paint & dotting tools

DESCRIPTION: Students will learn how to do closed coil weaving to add as a rim on top of

any gourd bowl. Instructor will have over 40 colors of threads to choose from

Basket Weave

by Sheryl Scott- $50

DESCRIPTION: This class is perfect for all skill levels; students will choose an apple

gourd or a martin gourd to weave their basket; they will weave natural flat pine reed

into a precut gourd basket. Instructor will demo the cutting process and a tutorial will

be provided

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a small pair of wire cutters to cut reed with.

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: gourds; reed & everything to finish your basket and a detailed written tutorial

will be provided to each student. Students should complete this project in class.

Wood Burned Quilt by Katie Westmoreland-$50

DESCRIPTION: Students will create a quilted sampler on a cannonball gourd. Many wood

burning techniques are included in this design, giving each student good wood burning

experience.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a wood burner with any tip you like for writing; a ball tip is normally the best writing

tip, knife tips are not recommended;

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Everything else needed to get this quilt underway. Students will leave with a

detailed written tutorial loaded full of information & tips to be able to finish their quilts.

Poinsettia Pine Needle Ornament

DESCRIPTION: Students will use waxed linen thread to stitch prepared long leaf pine

needles to a hand painted, sealed & drilled, double sided, wood center, to create a unique &

fun ornament with lampwork and glass beads for holiday decorating or gift giving.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a sharp pair of scissors & needle nose pliers;

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Cleaned & prepared pine needles, a hand painted, double sided, sealed & drilled

wood center, waxed linen thread, 2 decorative lamp work beads and a size 6/0 color coordinated glass beads to

finish your work of art. Students will receive a complete tutorial to create more ornaments on their own to keep or

as a gift.

Luna Moth by Beth Westberry -$45

DESCRIPTION: After wood burning an outline and dying the background, we will prepare

the surface of the gourd. Then the Luna moth will be created by layering colors using

Prisma color pencils. Blending and shading create rich colors.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: Wood burner with skew tip (and medium ball tip if have that),

heat gun, compass, scissors, apron.

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Gourd, Prism pencils, ink dye and all other supplies. Prism

color pencils are for the students to take home after class and a detailed written tutorial

will be provided to each student.

Wood Burning with Pyro Paper

DESCRIPTION: Students will learn how to wood burn a design on their gourd using pyro paper.

Students will receive thorough & easy instructions to take home for future projects. No tracing

or drawing required.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a cleaned gourd or gourd bowl-preferably 6” or larger & an

adjustable wood burner; Inexpensive wood burners will be available for purchase in the class as

well.

New England Christmas Ornament

Tea light-by Diane Ricker-$35

DESCRIPTION: It’s never too early to get ready for Christmas! Come paint this lovely “New England

Town Scene” on a gourd, with cut out windows to create an adorable lighted ornament. This will be a

lovely gift or a keepsake for yourself, which can be hung on a tree or displayed as a table decoration.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a supply of paint brushes-small flat one & larger flat one (nothing bigger

than ½”), a small round brush as well as a smock or apron to keep your clothes free of paint.

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Cut & Craft ready Gourd, all paints, palettes, fixative spray, spray

sealer, tea lights & hanger. All students should complete this ornament in class.

Sunday 9-all day class

Spiral Carving by Bonnie Gibson- $70

DESCRIPTION: This class is a combination techniques/project class; you will need to finish

coloring your gourd after class. You will be provided with a center stone, and will decide on what

decorative spirals you want to wrap around it on the gourd. You may do either/or carving and wood

burning for most of the patterns as you choose.

something unique.

.STUDENTS MUST BRING: a gourd in the 4-7" range that has been cut open and cleaned

inside and out. Bring a power rotary tool (Dremel or other brand) and any burs you have on hand. Bring a wood burner with a tip

suitable for burning clean lines. Bring some kind of eye protection (glasses, bifocals, safety glasses, etc,) and a respirator or N95 rated

dust mask.

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Instructor will provide instructional handouts including patterns, a center stone to use on your

project and some hand tools for shared class use. Supplies (other than gourds and personal tools) for class are included in

the cost of the class.

Butterfly Vase-by Sheryl Scott DESCRIPTION: Students will learn to transfer an image on to a large bottle gourd,

that has been cut & cleaned and wood burn design on the gourd; then they will weave a

black pine needle rim; adding color to their butterflies if desired & time permits. STUDENTS MUST BRING: a wood burner and a tapestry needle.

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: gourd, cleaned and art ready; pine needles dyed

black; waxed linen thread; design patterns & various ink or paint for adding color to

butterfly if desired, and a detailed written tutorial will be provided to each student.

Bum Duck by Katie Westmoreland- $35 DESCRIPTION: This class is sure to be a FUN & Creative class for all skill levels. Students will create a “Bum Duck” using

quick wood acrylic paints and various embellishments.

Blowin in the Wind

Student will create a Gourd & bamboo wind chimes. They will learn to paint the daisies & butterflies &

assemble/attaché the bamboo chimes. Painting is done with the Donna Dewberry one stroke method

of painting.

STUDENTS MUST BRING:

One stroke Paint brushes 1059 if needed you can buy them from the teacher for 15 Water basin,

apron, and sharp pencil

INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH:

Gourd, paint palette chimes and quick wood and a detailed written tutorial will be provided to each

student.

Flower Birdhouse

By Connie Williams DESCRIPTION: Students will paint a birdhouse with the Donna Dewberry one

stroke painting technique. They will learn to paint poppies & wiggle leaves on a gourd

birdhouse.

STUDENTS MUST BRING:

One stroke Paint brushes 1059 (Brushes can be bought from the teacher.) Water

basin, apron, and sharp pencil

a Spooky or a Cute Candy Corn Jack-O-Lantern Light from a large bushel gourd.

This class is for all skill levels and ages.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a jig saw to cut gourd face; a dust mask; gloves for

using the leather dyes

gourd and paint a small design. Learn to place the drumhead on the

Woven Filigree by Bonnie Gibson-PRICE $75

DESCRIPTION: This class will teach you how to do the woven type filigree

carving, as well as other water related textures. You'll be able to design your own

piece using the woven filigree as the focal point; everyone's project will be different

depending on what they choose to do with the patterns. The photos are just examples.

STUDENTS MUST BRING: a Gourd-one that is approximately 5--8” range
