• The Men’s Dartball League will be kicking off in October. A signup sheet for new members will be posted at the bar. If you played last year and will not play this year please contact Bill Pearson or Dale Black.

• The next District Deputy Clinic and Southwest District meeting will be held at Washington Lodge on Sunday, September 19th. The clinic is mandatory for the Exalted Ruler, Leading Knight, Trustee Chairman and Secretary and begins at 1:00 PM. The regular meeting begins at 2:30 PM.

• The world famous Connellsville Elks Steeler Tailgates will kick off on Sunday, September 12th at 12 noon.

• Spaces are still available for the 22 and 33 Pools. Sign up at the bar.

• Thank You’s: To Kathy Ritch and Stacey Huffman for pic-tures; to the vounteers who helped with the Elkfest fes-tivities and Monday night specials; to the people who made the PER Golf Outing a success; to the wing and steak crews for their continued efforts.

• The Connellsville Elks webpage at www.paelks.com/elks503.html has been updated. From there you can ac-cess the calendar of events, Lodge online bulletin, pic-tures, menus and much more.

• Reminder: The Lodge is once again open on Monday and Sunday evenings. The kitchen hours for Wednesday – Saturday evenings have been changed to 5:00 – 10:30 PM.

• Applications for the Elks ‘Most Valuable Student’ scholar-ship will be available at the high schools and online begin-ning September 1, 2010. Deadline to be submitted to the Lodge is November 1, 2010.

• Legacy Scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elk members must be submitted online and the deadline is January 7, 2011.

• The Centennial Room at the Connellsville Elks is now available for rental using outside caterers or our own kitchen staff. The back room in the bar area is also avail-able for small parties. Contact Gloria at 724-628-3560 or Gary Barker at 724-880-4372 for information.

• We are considering accepting advertising for the printed and online bulletins. Business ads and patron ads will be accepted. The bulletin is published monthly.

• The Lodge will be closed in observance of Labor Day on September 6th.

• All contributors to the Home Service fund and Elks Na-tional Foundation are recognized on the bar bulletin board.

• Volunteers are needed for our weekly Wing Nites and our monthly Steak Frys. We are able to keep the prices low by using volunteers, but more volunteers are needed. If inter-ested please contact Dave Nedrow or any House Commit-tee member. Or you can call the Lodge office at 724-628-4237.

• Connellsville Elks Gift Certificates make an excellent gift. Request your certificates at the bar.

• Members and friends who have digital photos of Elk events are asked to download them to a thumb drive or email to us at [email protected] so that we can use them for the online bulletin or the TV displays in the bar.

Hennings Commission Director Anyone who has been hospitalized for a length of time will understand the loneliness and depression experi-enced by veterans who either live in a facility or are confined to their homes. Visits from family and friends may be infrequent or non-existent. Elks Veterans Vol-unteers make special efforts to visit, call, send cards, and bring them to special events. This personal contact we call adopting, for these are the actions of a family reaching out to loved ones. Stewart G. Israel, of Plymouth, Michigan Lodge No. 1780 is Chairman of the Adopt-A-Veteran Program. Brother Israel, as a dedicated VAVS Representative, also takes an active part in adopting veterans in hospi-tals and working closely with the homeless. It is estimated that almost 200,000 Veterans are part of our Adopt-A-Veteran program nationwide. Adopting a Veteran is our way of saying “Thank you for your ser-vice to this country, and we will always remember you.” We are grateful for the commitment of Brother Israel and the volunteers at the Lodge, District and State lev-els who so willingly adopted these men and women. GRAND LODGE AMERICANISM ESSAY CONTEST

2010 – 2011 “Why I am Proud to be an

American” The Members of the G/L Americanism Committee have selected the theme, “Why I am Proud to be an American,” for the 2010-2011 Grand Lodge Ameri-canism Essay Contest. The essay contest starts with the Subordinate Lodges, progresses through District and State levels, and ends with the na-tional winners. This very important Patriotic Con-test gives school children in grades 5-8 the oppor-tunity to express views on their pride in America.

On the national level, first-place winners in each division will receive a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond. Second-place winners receive a $500 bond, and third-place winners receive a $250 bond. The Lodge that sponsors a national winner will be pre-sented with a beautiful engraved plaque at the Grand Lodge Convention. Many Lodges, District and State Associations also offer different types of awards to their winners.

Elks National Foundation As we went to press we received word that Lodge Trustee Jim Hines PER has become the 1st member of Connellsville Lodge to become a Bronze Member of the Elks National Foundation. This award is pre-sented to a member who has accumulated $5000.00 in contributions.

We we would also like to congratulate Bryan Kisiel for becoming the 15th current member of Connells-ville Lodge to become an Honorary Founder for contri-butions exceeding $1000.00.
