Everyone knows John 3:16 by heart “For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:17 continues “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through Him.” These are powerful words when you consider that God’s love extends to all. He sent His Son to die for the whole world, everyone! All who believe are saved through Him. As we celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation this month, we are thankful and rejoice in the Lord for the gift of salvation. Through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. I am excited to say that we had a record number of students attend our Future Freshman Day on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. We welcomed 102 8th graders to spend a portion of their day at Saxony Lutheran High School. It was a fun and informative day! We pray for God’s will to be done as these families make the very important high school decision for their child. October is a very busy month at Saxony Lutheran High School as we host Mass Band Day on October 6 and the Crusader Challenge Fundraiser kicks off on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Be sure to see the information on this important fundraiser in the newsletter. We will also be having Student-Led Academic Conferences all month. STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES We’ve written you previously about Crusader Time and extended homerooms. In brief, the fac-ulty advisor for each small group has become more invested in the academic success of students in their group, regularly meeting with each student to discuss grades and offer support. The next step in this process is Student-Led Conferences. (Students heard about this today dur-ing Crusader Time.) This October, instead of meeting with seven teachers during Student Aca-demic Conferences, you will be meeting with your student and his or her advisor (small group teacher). You are still able to meet with each teacher if you wish, but you must participate in the student-led conference first. As the name suggests, your student will take the lead in this meeting. We are working with stu-dents to prepare them for this event. (Of course, we encourage you to speak with your student regularly about his or her grades, using PlusPortals.) Here are the important details:

Student-Led Conferences will be held from October 2 – October 26. Each conference should be 15 minutes (but some teachers may schedule 20 minute appointments). The student must attend with at least one parent. Each homeroom teacher will schedule his or her own appointments; watch for information later to-

day about how to do this. Once the Student-Led Conference is complete, the homeroom teacher will help you schedule ap-

pointments with other teachers. This is OPTIONAL. We ask that you schedule your appointment by mid-October. Teachers will be in touch if they do

not hear from you by October 13. The Student Academic Conferences scheduled for October 24 and October 26 will NOT be held.

This time could be used for appointments, however, as families and teachers make their individu-al arrangements.

We are very excited about this shift and we believe it is best for our students. As always, if you have

questions or concerns, please contact one of us. In His Service, Mark Ruark Judith Fuchs Principal School Counselor
