All around the world there are trade routes that are thousands of years old. The most famous of them is the Silk Road, which connected ancient China with the civilisations of Mesopotamia and Europe. It was only in the late Middle Ages with the increase in trade by sea that the original Silk Road began to lose importance.

The Silk Road got its name from the German geographer Ferdinand Freiherr von Richthofen in the 19th century. He named the world's most significant trade route after a textile, silk, which even in antiquity travelled as far as Europe over the caravan routes.

That the route is named after a textile is not without reason. The importance of the textile trade in the history of humankind cannot be overemphasised. Weaving is significantly older than pottery making, and there is evidence that humans were able to weave over 32,000 years ago.

Textiles, and thus silk, bring together the basic human need for clothing with the personal desire for individuality, luxury and status. The textile industry has also always been closely linked to technological progress. The steam engine, which started the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, was first used to power spinning machines and looms.

When the Chinese government announced the international investment project "One Belt, one Road" in 2013, the vision of a new Silk Road was born. The plan is to catapult the traditional trade routes between Asia and Europe into the 21st century with billions in investment under the participation of 64 coun-tries. The new Silk Road opens fascinating new perspectives for the textile industry.

In this Express issue, we invite you to accompany us on an exciting journey through countries that the ancient Silk Road crossed. Zinser and Schlafhorst have been present in the pulsing centres of the textile industry along the new Silk Road for years: in the Chinese cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, Urumqi and Korla, in the capital city of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, in the Iranian city of Isfahan, in Chandigarh in northern India, and in Kahramanmaraş in Turkey.

I wish you inspiring reading.

4 INNOVATIONS / 1/2017

On  7th  September  2013,  China's  president  Xi  Jinping delivered a speech at Nazarbayev Uni-versity in Astana in which he mentioned Yi Dai Yi Lu ("One Belt, one Road") for the first time. The "One Belt, one Road" initiative is a cross-border investment project which is attracting attention around the world under the name "New Silk Road". The textile industry in Asia and Europe is enjoying fascinating opportunities for growth.

64 states are involved in investing in infrastructure The initiative includes what is known as the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Mari-time Silk Road. The Belt, Dai in Chinese, refers to the Eurasian Economic Area which stretches from Western Europe to China. The Maritime Silk Road, Lu in Chinese, denotes a chain of free trade ports and shipping routes which extends from Southeast Asia, via the Arabian Peninsula to Africa and through the Suez canal to the Mediterranean.

In total, almost one trillion US dollars will be invested into ports, railway lines, pipelines and other infrastructure projects to expand the trade routes between Europe, Asia and Africa. 64 states are involved in this project and the Asian Infra-structure Investment Bank (AIIB) has been foun-ded with a share capital 100 billion US dollars.

6 INNOVATIONS / 1/2017

High-speed rail links for intensive trade connectionsThe investments in an ultramodern logistics net-work of roads, railway lines and trade centres for transporting freight in the Silk Road Economic Belt boost trade relations between regions which have been in close economic contact for many centuries. The Belt runs along one of the oldest trade routes in history; the legendary Silk Road. But the New Silk Road only shares its name with the caravan routes once travelled by Marco Polo. Instead of unprepossessing camels, goods will be transported by ultramodern freight trains amongst other means and will run between Asia and Europe every hour.

To make Western China accessible in terms of transport, the Middle Kingdom is currently investing one eighth of its gross domestic product in high-speed rail links, motorways and entire cities. Many Central Asian states along the New Silk Road see this as a major economic opportunity and are also modernising their infrastructure. But Europe also stands to benefit from ultramodern trade routes, improvements in logistics and faster rail connections. Even nowadays, freight trains can trundle from Asia to Western Europe within 14 days, for instance. Cargo ships need five whole weeks to do it.

Spirit of optimism in the textile industryThe textile industries in Asia and Europe cannot fail to benefit from the "One Belt, one Road" Initiative. For Uzbekistan, the sixth largest pro-ducer of cotton in the world, the development in

Western China opens up new markets, not just for raw cotton but also for yarns. Uzbekistan is currently taking great strides to develop and modernise its cotton processing sector.

Cooperation between yarn producers and the textile industry in processing countries such as Bangladesh will intensify to their mutual benefit. India, Pakistan and Turkey have flourishing textile industries situated in the Silk Road Belt and are sure to seize the new opportunities. Egypt, Iran and other countries in the Middle East are expe-riencing a boom which is being encouraged even more by the "One Belt, one Road" initiative. A large number of companies in the textile industry are modernising their facilities and will start exploiting new markets in the next few years. There is a strong chance that the important regional and national economic areas along the Silk Road with their individual strengths and weaknesses will merge into one large area and will bring more growth and prosperity for everyone. Short routes between producers and consumers – an important factor for success, even with the fast pace of modern textiles.

Zinser and Schlafhorst have an excellent repu-tation in the countries along the New Silk Road. The German textile machinery manufacturers are happy to support their customers in the Silk Road Economic Belt even more intensively in the course of their growth in international competition with highly efficient machines, intelligent automation solutions and expertise in textile technology from Germany.

8 INNOVATIONS / 1/2017

The E³-certified machines from Saurer provide triple added value to textile companies, in the areas of energy, economics and ergonomics. In the last Express, we reported on the high level of resource efficiency of the Autoconer 6 and its unbeatable efficiency. This article will discuss its integrated intelligence, which ensures that it operates almost complete independently from personnel and has maximum process reliability.

Intelligence insideIn the Autoconer, intelligent functions lead to measurably improved process efficiency. The doffer equipped with SmartJet is an outstanding example of smart, networked, innovative func-tionality. In addition to its package doffing func-tion, it resolves up to 85% of all errors that occur during upper yarn pick-up by itself, indepen-dently of personnel. This value – measured in practice – means fewer downtimes due to red lights and noticeably reduced effort for personnel.

Thanks to its sensors and functional intelli-gence, the Autoconer 6 now operates autonomously and independently of personnel also during cal-ibration processes. All splicer feeder arms are automatically calibrated when the machine is turned on. Time-consuming manual calibration and adjustment of the feeder arms at every winding unit is no longer necessary. Automatic calibration ensures greater process reliability and quality with 100% reproducible settings.

The same is true for the regular adjustment of the suction tube position, which is also done automatically. The parameters can conveniently be entered into the Informator.

Consumption optimisation made easyAn entirely new feature in the area of ergonomics is the automatic monitoring of energy and com-pressed air consumption with Energy Monitor-ing. Consumption data can be read directly from the Informator. Strategies for consumption optim- isation can be developed rapidly and efficiently with the Autoconer 6. Series of measurements for optimization of energy consumption that require significant effort from personnel are now unnecessary. At the same time this new online monitoring increases personnel awareness for the topic of zero waste.

Monitoring rather than intervening With the Autoconer, personnel are almost exclu-sively required for monitoring of production. The Autoconer 6 provides process intelligence directly. For example, the intelligent additional functions: multi-tube handling, empty tube strategy and Tube Check support the X-Change doffer during package handling. In the material flow, Bobbin-Sharing, VarioReserve and Highspeed-Feeding ensure the intelligent balancing out of material flow variations.

Where manual handling is unavoidable, the functional Autoconer design effectively supports personnel. For example, splicer set-up times are drastically reduced. The manual feeding of bob-bins to the Autoconer, type RM is ergonomic and safe to operate thanks to the innovative 9+1 feed-ing principle.

End result: Process reliability and independence from personnelThe most modern sensor system, smart control and drive technologies, intelligent processes and self-optimising functions – with intelligence inside, the Autoconer 6 guarantees the highest level of process reliability and almost complete independence from personnel.

Large format packages, impressive spliced joints. Core and duo-core yarns processed with excellence on the Autoconer.

Autoconer customers therefore reduce their logi-stics and shipping costs (by up to 30%) and in-crease their profitability. Maximum efficiency during further processing is achieved with absolutely straight package flanks and gently rounded edges. In addition, PreciFX winds faster than all other drumless yarn displacement systems, particularly in combination with Speedster FX. Winding speeds of up to 1,300 m/min have already been achieved in practice with CO/EL yarns (Ne 6.8).

Autoconer core yarn packages – more productivity in weaving and knitting With their stable, even package build, their straight flanks, individually adjusted spliced joints and excellent unwinding properties, Autoconer packages are the benchmark for quality. Whether used as a feed package for weaving or as a feed package during knitting – they increase value creation during further processing. In practice, thanks to their outstanding unwinding properties, weft insertion rates of weaving machines that process core yarns increased from 700 to 900 picks/min. This means that the Autoconer in- creases the value of elastic yarns during winding.

Elastic core yarns have been a trend for years and are conquering more and more application areas. Various material combinations are used, both "classic" elastic core yarns, and increasingly also duo-core yarns. There is therefore no general prescription for processing these challenging yarns during the winding process. Thanks to its technological flexibility, the Autoconer from Schlafhorst can be individually adjusted. It winds and splices modern core and duo-core yarns in a highly profitable way with unbeatable quality.

The most valuable packages in the worldDue to the elasticity of the yarns, producing large-format packages with stable, even package build, straight package flanks and excellent unwinding properties presents a demanding challenge. The Autoconer meets this challenge with distinction. When using Autotense FX with Variotense FX and Propack FX with Variopack FX, by the drum winding stage densely packed, large format packages with almost straight package flanks can be formed.

This is even more efficient with the drumless PreciFX displacement system. Record-breakingly large packages with a diameter of up to 320 mm and a weight of up to 6 kg are a practical reality.

Always the optimal spliceThe Autoconer convincingly demonstrates its superiority when splicing elastic core yarns and duo-core yarns. The variety of materials means that no general prescription works here either, however with the SmartSplicer family, optimal splices can be achieved for both weaving and knit-ting yarns. The splicing parameters are set cen-trally, and are therefore reliable and reproduci-ble. The splicing equipment can be simply and quickly adjusted and changed thanks to the Quick-Change Unit. This means that, depending on the requirement, yarn-like spliced joints with low elasticity and high strength can be created for weaving, or elastic, more voluminous spliced joints for knitting. Any conceivable material com-binations can be processed, not least because Schlafhorst is continuously working on the opti-misation of the splicing components.

The following table shows some applications that Schlafhorst technicians have processed using the Autoconer in various splicing tests.

They are available at any time for consultation and development of the optimal splicing possi-bilities for your yarns.

AUTOCORO 9.ECONOMICAL RECYCLING.

Raw materials are expensive. They make up more than half of all costs in a spinning plant. There is therefore great incentive to use less raw mate-rials or purchase them more cheaply. Recycling is an especially efficient way to reduce raw mate-rials costs.

However, raw materials are not merely expensive. They can also be scarce, for example crude oil, which is necessary for the manufacture of PES. And last but not least, there are natural limits to raw material extraction. 2,000 litres of water are required to water the cotton plants needed to pro-duce cotton for a single T-shirt. What could make more sense than recycling textile raw materials?

Recycling does not always mean recyclingIn general, very different and varied types of recyc- ling are in use for finished textiles. The simplest form is the sale or donation of used clothes so that they can continue to be worn by other people.

In many sectors, the recycling of materials on an industrial scale is carried out. Cleaning cloths, fleece and non-woven fabrics, cushion stuffing, insulating materials and paper and cardboard are made from ripped up textile products. However, at present we will discuss cotton waste from spin-ning, weaving and knitting factories that is recycled either directly or after being ripped up into indi-vidual fibres.

Fibre recycling in the spinning millStrictly speaking, the recycling of fibres in a spin-ning mill is always downcycling, since the recycled product can never attain the quality of the original product. But it would be wrong to think that the best a finely knitted single jersey can do in its second life is serve as a tennis sock or camping blanket. In practice, yarns of surprisingly high quality can be produced through mixing recycled fibres with new ones. But before this stage, the material goes through a complex recycling process.

Fiavit – Fiação da Vitória, Lda in northern Portugal, Vila Nova de Famalicão.

Page 16: SCHLAFHORST CUSTOMER MAGAZINE / 1/2017 / EN …schlafhorst.saurer.com/fileadmin/Schlafhorst/pdf/expres… ·  · 2017-08-07OOO "BAKAN TEX" – Uzbekistan 24 Iran on the rise 26

16

First, cutting scraps from weaving and knitting factories or scrap yarn from spinning mills must be sorted, so that unmixed starting material is available. The fabric and yarn remnants are then ripped up into individual fibres by a machine. After this procedure, the fibres no longer have the same length as the original cotton. They measure only a few millimetres, meaning that the quality cannot be compared to that of new cotton.

After bleaching or dying, the short recycled fibres are mixed with long carrier fibres so that they can be spun. Which carrier fibres are to be used and in what quantities depends on the desired end product.

The spinning process cannot achieve the same strength, evenness, hairiness and fineness with recycled fibres as with new quality raw material. However, it is possible to produce a high quality pair of jeans by mixing in 30% recycled cotton fibres. Coarse yarns for the manufacture of blankets can even be made from 90% recycled fibres, reinforced with 10% PES or PAN fibres.

The mixtures are carded and stretched in preparation for spinning, just like new fibres. Because recycled material frequently cannot be stretched multiple times, the shorter IDF process is often used.

Recycling material is a valuable raw material that will increase in importance in the future. Many textile companies already ensure sustainable production processes with intelligent resource management. The Autocoro from Schlafhorst plays a central role in efficiency in this regard.

Up to 98% efficiency with the Autocoro 9In close cooperation with customers, Schlafhorst has developed special solutions for the Autocoro 9 in recent years for spinning recycled fibres with a high degree of efficiency. This results in highly productive, safe and flexible processes for the production of yarns of outstanding visual quality and a wide range of applications.

Schlafhorst has developed TT rotors in various diameters especially for recycling applications, which produce maximum yarn strength as well as a high level of opacity of the textile surface. The specific desired feel for the yarn can be achieved with various nozzles. And the specially designed B 174-2 DN opening roller protects the already stressed fibres.

With this equipment, the Autocoro creates unique added value from low-cost recycled material. With a high degree of productivity and reliability, the rotor spinning machine from

With a comprehensive range of Autocoro spinning machines that are perfectly attuned to the requirements of recycling raw materials, Schlafhorst is contri-buting to the highly efficient processing of these valuable secondary yarns.

Schlafhorst produces high-quality reels with an optimised structure that perform well in further processing due to their excellent unwinding characteristics.

The international company Fiavit from Portugal is committed to sustainability and has been work-ing successfully with recycled fibres for years. The experts from Fiavit are familiar with the advantages of the Autocoro 9 from their daily work. "We were able to increase production by 10% with the Autocoro 9. We became very flexible regarding changing the product and with the Autocoro 9 we achieve a steady level of efficiency of around 98%."

New recycling processes in developmentNew processes for the recycling of cotton are already appearing on the horizon that could revolu- tionise the market if they are brought to industrial maturity over the next few years. The VTT Tech-nical Research Centre of Finland, for example, has developed a technology where cotton waste is transformed into cellulose fibres through a chem- ical process, which are then further processed during wet spinning. This technology does not require any sulphuric hydrocarbon substances for the opening process, as is the case for conven-tional viscose. It is therefore particularly envi- ronmentally friendly.

The industry is also looking for opportunities to recycle textiles from polyester, which is becoming ever more popular due to its outstanding main-tenance and wear qualities. Already, around 5% of the world's oil is used to manufacture polyester fibres. An efficient recycling process would repre-sent an incalculable gain for sustainable textile production. The manufacture of polyester fibres from PET bottles already works and proves how great the potential for recirculation of materials is once the processes can be made economical.

THE AUTOCONER SUCCESS STORY.2.5 MILLION WINDING UNITS.

At the beginning of 2017, the 2.5 millionth Autoconer winding unit went into operation in the Indian textile company Kanchan Ltd. The company from Bhilwara is located approximately 400 km south of a spur of the old Silk Road, which ran from southern China through Mathura in northern India to Persia.

2.5 million Autoconer winding units – this unpar-alleled record in the sector represents a significant milestone in the Schlafhorst company success story. This success proves how much trust that customers have in the technological leadership of the German textile machinery manufacturer.

The synonym for automatic package winding for 55 yearsWith the beginning of mass production of the Autoconer in 1962, the era of automatic package winding began. Since then, the name Autoconer has been the synonym for automatic package winding. Today, Autoconer packages are still the global benchmark for quality and efficiency.

The history of the Autoconer is characterised by a long list of ground-breaking inventions that have always increased customer benefits. Every product generation of the Autoconer exceeded the industry's expectations regarding efficiency and technology. Revolutionary splicing technology, innovative sensor technology and control systems, the unique FX technologies and intelligent auto-mation systems became state of the art, thanks to Schlafhorst.

Autoconer 107 – the dawn of automationThe first product generation of the Autoconer radically changed workflows in the package wind- ing sector. For the first time, operators were relieved of almost all manual work thanks to the Autoconer and took on mainly supervisory func-tions. Automation was the necessary prerequisite to increasing productivity and quality, as the limiting factors of staff, and therefore the neces-sary manual interference, were removed. The package winding sector became significantly more efficient; it was the breakthrough that changed the labour-intensive winding process to an automatic one.

Autoconer 138 – the invention of splicing technologyThe Autoconer 138 astounded the textile world in 1976 with its separate mechanical, electric and pneumatic functions. But the real sensation entered the market only two years later. In 1978, innovative automatic splicing revolutionised yarn joining: the splice replaced knots for the first time. In doing so, quality for subsequent processes was re-defined, and the efficiency increased significantly.

Autoconer 238 – the material flow revolutionIn 1987, Schlafhorst brought the Autoconer 238 onto the market, the first winding machine with single winding unit drive. This led to increased flexibility and quality in the spinning mills. In

the 80s and 90s, the increase in profitability was closely linked with increasing automation of the process cycles. In 1991, Schlafhorst went on to develop the revolutionary Caddy transport system to market readiness. Spinning mills were able to use it to implement more efficient material flow and automation strategies.

Autoconer 338 – the trailblazer for innovations in textile technologyThe next product generation, the Autoconer 338, with new drives and sensors went into production in 1997, while the starting pistol also sounded for the development of intelligent FX technologies. This made Schlafhorst the trailblazer for innova- tions in textile technology. Autotense FX, the first online yarn tension control, is still the undispu-ted industry benchmark today.

Autoconer 5 – drumless yarn displacementIn 2007, Schlafhorst introduced the textile indus-try to the world of digital yarn displacement in the processing of bobbins. The Autoconer 5 revolu- tionised the production of process-optimized packages with its drumless yarn displacement system PreciFX. Two years later, Schlafhorst was once again at the cutting edge of the automation trend with the Autoconer X5. Intelligent material flow technologies, smart package handling with the X-Change doffer and flexible process optimi-sation with the Autoconer types RM, D, T and V allowed each spinning mill to have an individual automation concept.

Autoconer 6 –self-optimising and E³ certifiedThe next major leap came in 2015. With the Autoconer 6, Schlafhorst presented an automatic winding machine with self-optimised process cycles. Maximum productivity, the greatest possible energy efficiency and the absolute best quality are possible, practically at the touch of a button. As a result, the newest product gener-ation is E³ certified because it gives spinning mills the world over triple added value in the areas of energy, economics and ergonomics.

Success in the hotspots of automationIn its 55-year history, the Autoconer has always celebrated its success at the hotspots of the textile industry. The first Autoconer generations were primarily sold in Europe and North America where the demand for automation of the textile industry was already quite advanced. Today, the strongest key markets are in Asia.

Commodity spinning mills and specialists across the globe optimise their value chain with the Autoconer. "The Autoconer shaped the industry's history," says the Schlafhorst Product Manager, Peter Gölden. "Spinning mills have chosen an Autoconer winding unit 2.5 million times. To grasp that in numbers: the productivity potential behind that allows the production of more than 100 million ring spinning spindles to be processed! This trust is a major incentive for us to continue to sustainably shape the package winding sector with pioneering innovations in future."

XIANYANG TEXTILES GROUP CO.,LTD. ZINSER 71 – THE PERFECT MACHINE.

"Faster, better, more reliable," the chairman and general manager of Xianyang Textiles Group Co., Ltd. used this slightly modified Olympic motto to describe the features of the ZinserRing 71. Since 2013, 96 ring spinning machines with a total of over 136,000 spindles from the textile machinery manufacturer Zinser have been put into operation in the Chinese state textile company alongside the Autoconer package winder from Schlafhorst. The new ring spinning facilities have exceeded  the  company's  expectations.  After nearly five years, Xianyang Textiles are fully satisfied by the results.

Xianyang Textiles Group Co. Ltd. originated from a company founded in 1952. In 2012, the textile group moved to the Xianyang Emerging Textile Industrial Park and since then has traded under the name Xianyang Textiles Group. The industrial park is an important production centre on the new Chinese Silk Road. With around 5,000 employees and a production capacity of 400,000 spindles, Xianyang Textiles is the largest textile company in Northwest China. The annual output amounts to 50,000 tons of yarn. The company processes cotton as well as man-made fibres and blends of these into high quality yarns with fine-ness ranges from Ne 21 to Ne 120. With its own weaving mills and dyeworks, Xianyang Textiles

covers a broad area of the textile value chain. The yarns are used for clothing, household textiles and technical textiles. One part of production is exported to over 50 countries, mainly to Europe, North America, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia and Africa.

Yarn production at Xianyang Textiles under-goes a strict quality control, which is ISO 9001 certified. The company is particularly concerned about careful use of natural resources, and to help them with this the company works with ISO 14001 certified environmental management.

Stable precision technology cuts the cost of spinningWhen Xianyang Textiles put the state-of-the-art ring spinning machine into operation, the costs of spinning were expected to decrease sharply. The ZinserRing 71 met these expectations. The reliable cutting-edge technology continuously produces the best yarn quality and achieves a tangibly higher return. It is particularly efficient and guarantees increased efficiency thanks to the precise working of the components.

Xianyang Textiles was able to noticeably reduce their energy use with the ZinserRing 71. With its energy-saving tangential belt drive, precisely positioned high-speed spindles with low energy requirements and energy-efficient

motors, the economical ZinserRing 71 produces more yarn using less electricity.

Thanks to the stable and reliable design of the Zinser Ring 71, Xianyang Textiles was able to increase spin speeds without the risk of thread breakage. With the integrated software OptiStep, the starting, coast-down and operational spin-ning speeds are ideally aligned with the techno-logical spinning limit, allowing the bobbin to spin at top speed in every phase of its journey.

Consistent quality thanks to mechanical weighting armsThe ZinserRing 71 drafting system has mechanical weighting arms which guarantee constant pressure on all of the spinning positions. This reliability leads to continuously consistent yarn values. This is how Xianyang Textiles achieves maximum qual- ity with the highest process reliability and notice-ably reduced maintenance costs.

CoWeMat – the most process-reliable dofferThe CoWeMat is and remains the leading techno-logy for doffing automation.

With its well-known process reliability, the CoWeMat reduces staffing costs and increases efficiency. The fast and reliable automatic bobbin doffing on the ZinserRing 71 thanks to the CoWe-Mat allows an ideal use of the production capac-ity as it completes the work in intervals without

the need for staff. "Compared with our former facilities, we don't have bottlenecks, idle time and downtime," says Yang Renhong, head of the spin-ning department at Xianyang Textiles. "That means that the ring spinning facilities have a per-manently reliable high efficiency. Moreover, the doffing maintenance costs have been minimized by using the CoWeMat. Thanks to this reliability we have been able to reduce our personnel costs."

Staff are very happy with its easier operationAs well as the hard factors such as productivity, profitability and quality, the happiness of the operating staff is another important criteria when assessing a textile machine. Can the operating staff easily meet the spinning mill's high quality and productivity targets or is time-consuming manual interference still required? How difficult is it for the operating staff to produce a consistent quality over a long period of time or reproduce a desired quality at any point? Even in this respect, the ZinserRing 71 exceeded Xianyang Textiles' expectations. "Our employees are very happy with how easy the machines are to operate," says Yang Renhong. "All of the spinning parameters and batch data can be entered centrally into the EasySpin control panel. The simple operating concept and the easy to understand input assist-ance speeds up operation and prevents adjust-ment errors."

ZinserRing 71 delivers optimum yarn quality.

Reliable processing of cotton, synthetic staple fibres and blendsThe ZinserRing 71 can process synthetic staple fibres and their blends just as reliably, dependably and productively as it can natural cotton fibres.

"The markets are constantly changing," says manager Yang Renhong. "The availability of raw materials fluctuates as does the demand for vari-ous yarns. With the ZinserRing 71 we are able to meet the changing market requirements ideally because we want to become independent of market fluctuations."

Partnership with the automation provider For Xianyang Textiles, the ZinserRing 71 is the perfect match for the current demands of the textile industry in Asia. Because it is getting harder and harder to get staff, spinning mills increasingly have to make themselves independent

of them. A modern machine park is expected to deliver every desired yarn of a guaranteed qual-ity on schedule at an unrivalled price-perfor-mance ratio.

With Zinser, Xianyang Textiles has a strong partner at its side providing integrated automation solutions from roving frames to ring spinning machines to winding machines. With its reliable cutting-edge technology, the ZinserRing 71 can be integrated into a fully automated plant at any time and achieves the highest profitability and ensures dynamic growth.

OOO "BAKAN TEX".THE MOST MODERN COTTON MILL IN UZBEKISTAN.

In Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, the most modern cotton mill in the country is being built. Zinser and Schlafhorst will equip the new OOO "Bakan Tex" plant with a fully automatic cotton mill. The highly efficient complete solu-tion consists of a cutting-edge, high-end machine park, with roving frames, compact spinning machines, automatic winding machines and an integrated Plant Operation Center.

Even the ancient Silk Road wound through what is now Uzbekistan. The historic oasis city of Samarkand, around 300 kilometres south-east of Tashkent, was an important marketplace. Today, Uzbekistan is the seventh biggest cotton producer in the world. The country on the Silk Road produces 3.4 million tonnes of raw cotton and 1.1 million tonnes of cotton fibres per year. More than half of the cotton fibres produced are spun within the country. In 2020, Uzbekistan would like to process the country’s entire cotton production in their own mills. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, the most up-to-date systems and highly efficient production processes are required.

OOO "Bakan Tex", which is investing in the textiles sector for the first time, wants to produce knitting and weaving yarns with yarn counts from Ne 24 to Ne 40 from 100% combed cotton for the global market in its new plant. The Uzbek company contracted Zinser and Schlafhorst with the imple-mentation of these plans. As experienced solution providers, the two textile manufacturers from the Saurer Group are implementing a fully automated turnkey solution in Taschkent.

Zinser and Schlafhorst are installing 12 ZinserSpeed 5A roving frames, each with 160 spindles, which are connected with 33 ZinserIm-pact 72 compact spinning machines via the FixFlow roving bobbin transport system. They themselves are entirely automatically connected with 33 Autoconer 6 from Schlafhorst. The whole machine package is rounded off by the Plant Oper- ation Center (POC) information system, which records all production and quality data online. Optimisation of the operation processes can be done quickly and efficiently.

IRAN ON THE RISE.TRADITIONAL YET MODERN.

The ancient Silk Road used to wind through the Persian Plateau. It was Persian merchants who brought Chinese silk and other valuable items to Europe as intermediaries. They brought the civilisations of the East and the West together. The route, which goes through present-day Iran, is lined with almost 10,000 textile companies which employ some 290,000 workers. Zinser and Schlafhorst are playing a crucial role in modern-ising their facilities.

The textile and clothing sector in Iran is charac-terised by private companies which are active in practically all areas. As well as cotton mills, there are companies producing synthetic fibres such as acrylic and polyester yarns. The traditional clothing industry and the carpet industry are the focus of processing. There is a lot of interest in modern technology. Many Iranian companies are currently modernising their machinery to make the Iranian textile industry more competitive domestically and in the international markets.

Zinser and Schlafhorst are delivering ring spinning machines and rotor spinning machines to GostarashIn the east of the country, on the border of Pakistan, Gostarash Sanaaye Balouch Co. is investing in a new cotton mill. The company employs nearly 140 people. Gostarash wants to greatly increase its capacity and export half of its yarn production to India, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey and elsewhere. Until now, most of the yarn production, around 5,100 tons a year, has been

processed in its own weaving mills. To survive in the hard-fought export market, the best yarn quality was the decisive criteria when selecting a partner for modernisation. That is why Gostarash chose Zinser and Schlafhorst.

In the factory in Balouch, 100% carded cotton and blends of it in Ne 20 - Ne 40 fineness are processed. The ring spinning mills have the latest generations of machines including the roving frame ZinserSpeed 5M, the ring spinning machine Zinser 72 with 1,920 spinning positions and self-sorting CoWeFeed tube feed and the Autoconer 6 package winder.

At the same time, they now also have a new rotor spinning mill which is equipped with the BD 6 semi-automatic rotor spinning machine.

"We are opening a new chapter of our company's history," says Alireza Arghaee, Man-aging Director of Gostarash "for our ambitious goals, we need strong and reliable technological partners such as Zinser and Schlafhorst."

Gostarash isn't the only Iranian company that puts its trust in the Zinser 72 ring spinning machine. This year, Zinser has already sold over 20,000 spindles in the country on the Silk Road and Gostarash is planning to make more invest-ments in Zinser's and Schlafhorst's machines.

SUPPLIER DAYS.SUCCESSFUL TOGETHER.–In February, important suppliers accep-ted Schlafhorst and Zinser's  invitation to come to Übach-Palenberg to the Sup-plier Days. The two textile machinery manufacturers briefed their partners on the big developments along the new Silk Road and gave them an insight into the textile process chain. The conference mainly concentrated on the expansion of partnerships, for example by forming joint teams to develop ideal solutions for Schlafhorst and Zinser customers.

As system suppliers, Schlafhorst and Zinser are important partners of globally active spinning mills.
