Message from the Principal

Hi Everyone

Welcome Back Michael

Throughout this week our teaching teams will step out of

their classes in order to spend the day with our maths

mentor Michael Ymer observing demonstration lessons,

discussing the intricacies of what they saw and then

planning future units of work. For some staff this will be

their first experience working first hand with Michael,

whilst for others it will be a great opportunity to ask

questions that have been percolating for a while.

Grade 3 Basketball day

Today I had the great pleasure of watching the grade 3s

enjoying every minute of their basketball day. The children

were divided into 12 teams who right from the very first

ball toss went at it at top speed. This level of enthusiasm

was maintained as they progressed through the eleven

shortened games prior to the play-offs. Well done to the

staff who coached, managed & supported the year 3s.

Many thanks to the group of year 6s who

refereed/coached/managed teams as well.

Thinking Ahead

Even though term 4 seems to have just started, we in the

office have parts of our brains firmly focused upon 2018.

To this end, we need to know if you and your children will

be leaving Montrose PS at the end of the year.

Sentral Parent Portal

Our school uses the Sentral data management system.

The parent portal is now open and you are invited to

register and activate your access key. It is most important

that when working through the steps to register, that you

select the Portal 2 button. Give it a go! (Call the office if

you experience difficulties).

WORKING BEE CANCELLED:

Please note, the advertised working bee scheduled for this

weekend has been cancelled. I suggest that all who had

set this time aside to work around the school round up

your family and spend the day at a zoo, going on a picnic,

visiting the National Gallery or paddling up to your knees

at Port Melbourne beach. Have a great weekend!

Neil Pollard

It was beautiful to see the sun shining on Wednesday morning and the children brought their baskets to the window with smiles on their faces and a big bounce in their step. With so much sunshine on show……oh my goodness, we could not sell our frozen items quick enough at recess and then again at lunch. Frozen apple and orange juice cups were literally flying out the window and we opened a record number of packets of fruit tubes (nicknamed ‘icy poles’). The children thoroughly enjoyed their frozen treats on the first hot day of Term 4 and I know they want to thank you for giving them some money to spend. From the canteen window on Friday we watched 2H leave for their excursion to Mont De Lancey. The children’s period costumes were just delightful. With five classes out and about on Friday things were a little quieter in the canteen, but still busy. Canteen Volunteer Thank you A BIG thank you to Emma Hedges for helping in the canteen on Wednesday and to Terri Archer, Dianna Gazeas, Jaci Caccia and Cath Pickles for their help on Friday. What can I buy? Freshly prepared Sushi - Teriyaki Chicken and Cucumber or Tuna and Avocado, is available for $3.00 a piece. Amanda

What is it?

Courage is doing things even when they are scary or very difficult.

When we make a mistake, courage helps us

to have another go.

Sometimes, we let fear stop us from achieving the things that are important to us. Courage gives us strength and helps us do the things

that are right for us to do.

The Key for Success in Term 4 is Confidence. The habits of mind that go with the Confidence Key are: Working independently, Taking risks in your work and Accepting yourself.

Our YCDI Award winners for this week are:

Liara T, PD: This Prep D girl has made me so proud with how hard she has worked to give things a go, and most of all believe in herself. The things that used to get her upset or worried are not such big issues anymore! She used to get very anxious about tying her shoes, finding her hat, not knowing who to play with, and answering questions in class, but now she tackles all of these things and so much more with amazing confidence. Even better is that she has noticed this too, and it has made her feel very proud. Lately she has been reading with such amazing expression, and recently she said to me, “I used to be scared to use expression, but now I do!” I am so pleased that her growing confidence is helping her achieve wonderful things and most of all making her feel so good about herself. Liara T, I’m very proud of you.

Olivia V, 3H: Some people love it when work is too easy for them. Not this 3H student. She has the confidence to always take on the most difficult problem that is presented. And if ever she feels work is not difficult enough, she will even make up her own problems to solve! Some people love to relax and chill out when they finish their work. Not this 3H student. She has the confidence to look for more challenges and ask permission to do more work! Some people like to keep their abilities to themselves. Not this 3H student. She has the confidence to help others in the class who might be struggling with their work. Well done Olivia V! Your confidence is well founded and you put it to great use.

Liara T, Prep D Why do you think you got the award? Because I don’t like using expression and now I do. My Hero is: Matilda (my sister). My favourite thing about school is: Writing. When I grow up I want to be a: Vet.

Olivia V, 3H Why do you think you got the award? Because I wasn’t afraid of doing hard work. My Hero is: Koko (my dog). My favourite things about school are: Reading Maths and Art. When I grow up I want to be a: Don’t know.
