Year 12 sat the HSC exams, enjoyed the Formal and received their Presentation Awards. We are eagerly awaiting the release of the HSC results on 18th December. Year 11 have commenced their HSC courses and completed a term of learning, including assessments in most subjects. All other students (7-10) have finalised their learning for this year’s courses, reports are written and subject awards will be recognised Week 9-10. This year teachers have offered a range of interesting and fun activities in the final week (Term 5). The gradual return of limited format excursions and some sporting events have rejuvenated students about what can be undertaken beyond the classroom, especially for those who reflect positive school values in their behaviour and high attendance rates. Staff has continued to deliver educational outcomes and support students, also undertaking those many administrative tasks like exam marking, report writing and preparing programs for the future. At the same time, they have also been involved in the Departmental processes of completing the current School Plan and deep analysis of a wide range of data to prepare a Situational Analysis to create the focus areas for the new Strategic Improvement Plan (2021-4). Consultation with SRC and the wider community is underway. What a year we have all faced! Well done students who have built their resilience and worked conscientiously to achieve their best this year. Thanks to our staff for making student educational needs a priority with online delivery in such a short space of time followed by many adaptations as the year unfolded. They have families and life to balance too so the feeling of Christmas and reaching the end of this year is shared with much positivity. Everyone in our community needs time to refocus on family, think of others and being kind in our actions. If nothing, this pandemic should have made all of us really look closely at what is important to us as humans. Have a safe holiday and return rejuvenated in 2021. Mrs Toni Skewes Principal (Rel)

CRICKET NEWS

On Wednesday 2nd December, the Open Girls cricket team took on Oxley High School in the semi-final of the Open Girls Cricket knockout. Oxley’s outfit contained a number of North West, CHS & NSW Women’s representatives. Due to the predicted high temperatures, the game was reduced to a twenty-twenty fixture to the girls delight with Inverell electing to bat first. Jess Partridge & Georgie Leonard (co-captain) opened the batting with the first wicket falling in the 5th over. The remaining end of the batting order struggled to keep up with the speed and accuracy of the Oxley bowling attack, and some poor communication between batters that lead to run outs, left IHS with a small 32 runs for the opposition to chase. Inverell took to the field with Annalisa Collins (co-captain) bowling an exceptional ball, leading to Georgie Leonard taking a screaming catch in the field. This was the only wicket of Oxley’s to fall before they met our total in the 5th over. A huge thank you must go to William Marshall and Ryan Campbell for scoring and umpiring the game. The girls are already keen and eager to commence training for the 2021 knockout competition.

There was discussion around sustainable farming and being good ecological citizens. Students were pleased to be able to take home their potted butter beans to plant. All students were given a pack to take home to parents with vital information regarding Year 7, 2021. The link to our parent information video will be available on the schools’ YouTube channel early next week. Thank you to our great teachers and Year 9 helpers!
