Fish are cold-blooded creatures that live in water and breathe through gills. They have scales on their skin and fins to help them move through the water. What is an amphibian? Amphibians can live on either land or water and are cold-blooded creatures. Most amphibians lay eggs Amphibians have gills and lungs so they can breathe on both land or in the water. What is a reptile? Reptiles can look very different. They are cold-blooded and usually scaly creatures. They breathe through their lungs and usually have 4 legs. They lay eggs. What is a bird? Birds are animals with wings, feathers and two legs. Most birds can fly but not all, such as ostriches and penguins. Instead of teeth, they have a beak. Birds hatch from eggs which are usually looked after and kept warm in a nest. Birds have lungs and breathe air. What is a mammal? Mammals (including humans) are warm-blooded creatures with a large brain. They usually have 4 legs. Most mammals have a coat of hair to trap warm air near the skin. Mammals give birth to live babies who are fed milk produced by the mother. What is an invertebrate? Invertebrates are animals that don't have a backbone . Some have soft bodies others have a hard outer casing that protects their body a bit like a suit of armour.
