What SCORM Does
• Nothing with your content• Only with how the LMS finds and delivers
it• Two main functions of SCORM
• Answers the interoperability question• Collects data, data, data

Integration with Sakai
• Runs in Sakai’s application server• Contemplating reworking this to leverage Basic LTI
• Connects to Sakai’ database to push results back • Currently nothing is done with this data but would not be hard to
integrate with Gradebook or produce some reports.
• Resource Content Handler• Upload zip files in resources
• Launch from CHS links
• Allows integration with any tool that integrates with Resources
(Assignments, Melete, etc)

SCORM Support
• SoftChalk LBGateway was designed and implemented with support for the UC Davis SCORM player.
• SCORM packages are stored in an expanded form via the Content Hosting Service.
• SCORM packages can only exist at the top level of a site collection.
• There were some serious problems in CHS w.r.t renaming in Sakai 2.5.x that were fixed in 2.6.x.
• SCORM package import and registration is slow.
11th Sakai Conference - June 15-17, 2010
SCORM Support (cont.)
• Expanded SCORM packages are difficult to identify in CHS collections (later fixed with special file).
• While the Davis player collects use data, it is not easily accessed.
• No gradebook integration.• No assignment integration.• Requires Wicket module.• Davis is no longer supporting SCORM development,
in fact, no one is.

Recommendations
Someone needs to dive into the SCORM player code base do the following:
1. Rationalize the code factoring.
2. Document it's architecture and design.
3. Review and improve public APIs.
4. Fix known bugs reported in Jira.
5. Leverage newer Content Hosting Service capabilities.
6. Do a basic gradebook integration.

SoftChalk’s Plans
• Work with Sakai community.
• Monitor developments.
• Look more closely at IMS Learning Tools Interoperability.
