Early December the disappointingannouncement that the proposed$50 Million dollar unding toconstruct a new and contempo-rary boating acility adjacent toSimpson beach was to be retracted.Te news was a shattering blow tothe Broome community who havebeen dealing with the torment opoorly developed boating acilities

or ar too long. With captiualtiono unding the community re er-ence group; the Broome BoatingAlliance has disbanded. In a naleffort be ore closing the doorsbehind them the re erence grouphave passed some other optionsto the minister or transport royBuswell, in the hope that this wont just be swept aside. Its heart break-ing or the re erence group volun-teers and shing amilies to see thisoccur so soon afer the acknowl-edgement o the state governmentto apparently commit a urther $15million to bring the total undingup to $50 million. Te only thinglef or the Broome community todo at this point is to rally around

the Broome shire council who seethe loss o unding as a tradgey allwe can hope is that the hard workdoesnt completely go unrecognised

For those shers that made themost o the good weather whenit was available over the christ-mas break will no doubt be telling

stories or the rest o the year. Teshing has been amazing. Whenthe swell and poor weather hasntbeen keeping boats in the creeks, the shing or Coral trout, Blue-bone, Snapper and revally off-shore has been great, trolled lures, jigs and baits o squid and mulieshave all been producing good sh.Te near shore ree s are still beingravaged by serious numbers osharks, prompting many anglers topull the pin early or move around. When the weather has kept anglersconned to the bay, good cap-tures o sh rom the deeps to theshallow ats south o Crab creekand almost all o our creeks havebeen producing sh there havebeen some respectible numbers oBarrmundi being caught, with shyielding to most techniues priorto the good dump o rain we hadnear the end o January. Toseshers wishing to try their hand atlures should try small traditionalbibbed minnows and some sof vibes, however some days it doesntreally seem to matter what yourip through the water, it will getannihilated! Some good reports are

still ltering through about thread-n popping up in places where Ivenever heard or seen them be ore. With any luck we are in or a crack-ing 2014 threadn season. Keepyour nger crossed.

    Cheers, Beno.........

Tere are so many different thingsthat an angler has to bring togeth-er, to actually succeed at catchingsh. Firstly i you cant cast youwont be able to catch sh. Itcertainly depends on what type oequipment you decide on. I know

or one thing, I cant even workout how to use a handline with-out wrapping mysel up in knotsbut I learnt at a young age to castlures and ies. o be truly efficient

we need to understand the tides, moon phases, water temperature, what sort o beer to stock in theesky and nothing short o a marinebioloigy degree to gure out whatthe sh actually want to eat! Whenyou nally piece it all togethersomeone throws another spannerin the works to keep you thinkingand doubting the decisions that

you make are actually the rightones. Te only way to truly knowor sure is to keep track o these

decisions in as much detail aspossible. Something that I reallystruggle with. Te shers that Iknow who keep accurate diariesknow exactly what they want todo in advance and regularly dom-inate the sh. Really though youcan keep all the records you likeknow everything there is to knowabout currents, temperatures, barometric pressure and it can allcome unstitched at the seams with

a lack o knowledge regarding thestuff that keeps you connected tothe sh! thats right, how ofen doyou nd yousel walking aroundin the store or browsing on line inan aimless atempt to nd the linethat will cover all bases? For me Ind that a good quality PR braidin the 30 - 40lb category the mostexible line and will enable theangler to sh or Queenies, Mack-erel, Squid, Cobia on the sur ace,

theyre great lines or trolling lureswhether it be or Barramundior una. Ultimately youll real-ly see the benets o using themwhen jigging the offshore ree s orBar-Cheeked trout, Bluebone andSnapper. Te sensetivity o theselines is second to none, enablingthe unassuming anlger greaterchance o hooking small bites that

can end up in chaos. I recentlyhad a little tap, set the hook andimmediatelty got demolishedby a 20kg + Cobia, on a jig thataccounts or many other bottomespeceies. Knowing what line touse isnt the last key to success, yousill need to understand what knotsand rigs are suitable or whichapplication. Next edition Ill speaka little about the knots that workand dont let go when theyre tiedcorrectly. Until then have a lookat this website and get practicing;www.animatedknots.co m.
