Greetings from SCSM
After 1 year of establishment through the collaboration between Sasin and
the Corporate Responsibility & Ethics Association for Thai Enterprise
(CREATE), the Sasin Centre for Sustainability Management (SCSM) has
already made its mark in innovating the business school curriculum, setting
the stage for training, consulting and research in sustainable business
practice in Thailand and the region.
Through our vast network of CSR, sustainability-related business
professionals and organisations, as well as a cosy home at Sasin, one of
the best networks in Thailand, SCSM is able to connect students,
professionals, ideas, experience, and business strategy in an engaging and
seamless way. As part of the global network of CSR professionals, we also
host the Net Impact Bangkok Professional Chapter at Sasin, where we
hold a monthly luncheon meeting, featuring world-class speakers.
We are happy to share our first steps with you in this year-end report, and
hope to be able to move forward with you in the pursuit of sustainability;
happy people, planet, and profits.
We wish you Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you in 2013!

Shaping Business with
Compassion Symposium
16
On 18 May 2012, Sasin Graduate Institute of Business
Administration of Chulalongkorn University, together with the Sasin
Alumni Association (SAA) and in cooperation with the B.Grimm
Group, hosted a special Roundtable Symposium entitled, “Shaping
Business with Compassion”, at Sasin Hall, 9th Floor.
Many prominent business and cultural leaders such as Mr. Harald
Link, Chairman (B.Grimm Group) Mr. Kasit Piromya (Member of
Parliament, Democrat Party), Mr. Danai Chanchaochai (CEO, DC
Consultants and Marketing Communications Ltd.), and Mr. Thada
Savetsila (Group Director, Education Institution Sector, True
Corporation Plc), participated in this discussion.
After an afternoon of discussion and debate, it was agreed that
compassion begins with the individual, requires balance, must
address social justice and fairness, requires dialogue and action.
Look out for the for the next Compassion event at Sasin and join us
in 2013.
Asian Forum on Corporate
Social Responsibility (AFCSR)
17
On 26-27 October 2012, the Sasin Centre for Sustainability Management
(SCSM) participated in the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility
(AFCSR) at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok. Hosted in different cities in
Asia by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), the Forum is the largest
annual conference on corporate social responsibility in the region.
As an event partner, Sasin and SCSM had a booth in the main hall for both
days of the conference. Former Thai Prime Minister, Khun Anand
Panyarachun, also visited our booth after his keynote speech. All AFCSR
delegates had a chance to win an iPad if they won a "booth stamp bingo"
competition. Many people came to get the Sasin stamp, so they were asked
to vote for one of the 9 MBA oaths/professional codes of conduct that were
recently written by our MBA 2012 students. The MBA oath that won easily
was the shortest one. See the top three oaths voted on the following pages.
Our Chief of Operations, Alex Mavro, was a moderator for the session
“Engaging Employees And Other Shareholders For Social Innovation” with
Dr. David Grayson CBE, Director, The Doughty Centre for Corporate
Responsibility, Cranfield School of Management (UK) and Chris Levy,
Associate Director, GlobeScan (UK).
Our Sasin Director, Aj. Toemsakdi Krishnamra, congratulated Professor
Steven J. DeKrey, former Dean of Admissions at Kellogg School of
Business, a founder of the business school at HKUST, and a long-time friend
of Sasin, on his new appointment as President of Asian Institute of
Management, the organizer of AFCSR.
As a Sasin graduate, I hereby promise
to actively create value to society in an
honest and transparent way, treat
people with respect and fairness,
behave in an ethical way, and actively
pursue these morals in others.

Trip to Buriram
21
In partnership with BREAD (Business for Rural
Education And Development), we organized a trip in
November 2012 to learn about village development
through social enterprise. The community development
under the Population and Development Association
includes community banking, a youth committee,
elderly care committee, health care, and the amazing
life-long-learning centre, the Bamboo School. Because
of the holistic approach, the communities are
empowered, organized, transparent, accountable, fair,
and innovative.
Some key highlights about the Mechai Bamboo School
include
• teachers applying to teach at the school are
interviewed by students
• tuition fees are not financial, but paid in community
service, including planting trees
• Grade 10 students get to study and live in Pattaya
for 1 year in order to take advantage of exposure to
the tourism & hospitality, oil & gas, entertainment
industries, as well as marine biology, the presence
of the US navy, and understanding the sex trade
industry.
Join us in 2013 for another trip to Buriram and Pattaya.
Visit to Park Ventures Ecoplex
22
Park Ventures is one of the few and newest environmentally-
friendly buildings in the centre of Bangkok. SCSM took the
opportunity to organize a building tour for our network members.
Park Ventures was designed to be an “ecoplex” in
terms of
• Energy efficiency
• Air quality
• Water management
• Sustainable materials
• Light balance – design for maximising the use of natural light and light
sensors
• Applying for US Green Building Council, under Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification
There was an overwhelming interest in this green building tour,
and we had to organize it on two days in October 2012, totalling
80 visitors, consisting of Sasin students, professors, Sasin
administrative staff, design professionals, and business
professionals.
Join us in 2013 for the monthly field trip.
We look forward to hearing from you!
