Using a variety of sources forming a range of evidence.
Recognising a range of reac=ons to the issue from different ‘stakeholders’ (the emo)onal to the poli)cal, the specialist to the economical).
Recognising varia)on in scale – local but with na)onal or global implica)ons?
Recognising sustainability throughout – social, economic and environmental impacts.
The Sustainable Decision Making Exam
What will my SDME paper look like? There will be 3 sec=ons to complete.
Sec=on A (normally worth 10 marks) and split into 3-‐4 ques=ons between 1 and 5 marks. These test your ability to interpret data from the resource booklet. Expect describe and explain style ques)ons.
Sec=on B (normally worth 14 marks) with ques)ons that are more complex. Expect 2-‐3 ques=ons worth between 5 and 8 marks. There may be evalua)on of different opinions and viewpoints.
Sec=on C (worth 16 marks) in the DECISION ques)on where you have one decision to make. An extended answer that will be between 2-‐3 pages in length.

Be able to analyse advantages and disadvantages e.g. the costs/benefits/posi)ve/
nega)ve impacts
USE EVIDENCE
Give extended and detailed evidence to support a case using data instead of vague
asser)ons.
BALANCE Be able to see all sides of the issue and accep)ng that no solu)on is a catch all or is
problem free.
BE SYNOPTIC Use knowledge and
understanding from other topics in Geography from the news or from other subjects.
COUNTER ARGUMENT Be able to explain why some proposals or ideas have been
rejected.
