FUEL ASSISTANCE

WHEN: Friday, October 22nd @ 10:00 AM

Improve balance; improve form (not necessarily better posture but better form). Gain better coordination and flexibility; pain prevention; increase stamina; and better poise in standing, sitting, and activity. How? Through the Alexander Technique (AT), which has been practiced for over 125 years.

As a psycho-physical (re) education of using one’s body and mind to reduce stress and promote a well-coordinated body, it is the practice of attending to postural tone before and during activity encourages improvement in motor be-havior, balance, reduction in anxiety and pain, prevention of tension, and increased self-efficacy and energy. In short, AT encourages self-care and management.

Alexander Technique is often taught in rehabilitation pro-grams to help heal injury and recuperate from surgery.

Join us on Oct. 22nd for an introductory session and de-cide if you’d like to commit to this 3 week training

Nov. 5th: Proper sitting; sit-to-stand movements Nov. 12th: Proper standing; balance and gait Nov. 19th: Non-doing; inhibition; and breaking habits

PACE Application Assistance

Fuel Assistance through PACE is a pro-gram that helps low income individuals with heating costs during winter months. Homeowners and renters can apply for fuel assistance.

regarding qualification and for assistance in apply-

ing.

OUTREACH SERVICES

Buzzards Bay Coalition More than 30 years ago, local residents sounded a warn-ing that the health of their beloved Buzzards Bay was fail-ing. These early efforts to save Buzzards Bay from the harmful effects of pollution led to the formation of the Buzzards Bay Coalition. Decades later, a Coalition of community members continues to work tirelessly to pro-tect clean water in Buzzards Bay for everyone.

The very informative website www.savebuzzardsbay.org describes how a citizen volunteer can get involved with the many programs they offer. In an interview with Colin Zeigler, Volunteer Coordinator with the Coalition, I learned that they offer volunteer work at every level of ability. Hearty souls might consider water testing through the Baywatch Monitoring, carpentry work or trail mainte-nance. For those who want to help but need a less de-manding volunteer station they suggest working at the Learning Center Docent program located in New Bed-ford. There volunteers assist the community engagement staff with mailings and reception work. He stressed that this is a good opportunity to meet new people and on the days of the mailings they provide lunch!

For more information call Phoebe Girard, Volunteer Coordinator, at the COA.
