Class Policy Review

A. The Rules

If you are not in your seat at the bell, you are tardy. You will receive a zero on the quiz.

If you want to leave class for any reason, it will cost you a punch on your slacker pass.

If you leave without permission you may be marked truant and/or be charged a punch on your slacker pass.

If you miss class it is YOUR responsibility to get notes & assignments before the next period.

B. Assignments

Assignments and notes are posted on the class webpage: LPScience.weebly.com

Assignments are posted in the classroom during the applicable unit.

Skyward assignments are always due by 7:45am the next class day. After that time, the online version is unavailable. (Being absent on the due date does not change this deadline.)

A paper “late” version of the Skyward assignment is in the binder in the classroom.

B. Assignments

Skyward assignments completed online on time can be viewed later to study for unit tests. The assignment report will not tell you

the correct answer, but it WILL tell you what you chose, and whether it was right or wrong.

Skyward homework OFTEN share questions with unit tests, so this is a very helpful study aid.

Each unit has a late work deadline. The deadline includes everything done during the unit– quizzes, Skyward HW, regular assignments, labs, and tests. This includes late work

and absent work. Each late assignment

requires a slacker pass. After the deadline, work

from that unit may not be

accepted for credit.

All items not turned in on time with the rest of the class go in the IN basket and require a PINK form.

If you don’t bother to fill out

the form completely, I may

not bother to enter your

score.

C. Absences

You are expected to do the daily quiz even if you were absent the previous period. Check the webpage before class to get the notes & assignments.

Quizzes you missed during an absence are in the binder at the front of the room. You get one week from the absence to have the quiz & homework turned in. After that, it is late, despite the absence.

The late versions of Skyward assignments are also in this binder. Remember: if an online assignment was DUE the day of your absence, you are NOT excused from the due date.

This is High School, Part 1

First and last name are required even if your first name is the most unique one ever.

Class period is required.If I can’t read it, it’s wrong.If I can’t tell which answer you chose, it’s

wrong.If you don’t bother to write the letter/color of your

test-version on your bubble sheet, you may receive a zero.

This is High School, Part 2

Not following directions regarding in-class-correcting and/or paper-passing may be deemed cheating and result in an unrecoverable zero.

If you do not pass your assignment forward when it is called for, it will be assumed that you did not yet have it done, and you will be assessed a late penalty. (This will use up a punch on your slacker pass.)

This is High School, Part 3

Check your grade on Skyward. Check it early, check it often. “I didn’t know I had a zero” does not get you

an extension. It is your responsibility to keep track of your grade and any missing scores.

If there is an error on your grade, tell me and/or put an note in the IN basket within a week to get it fixed. Late work deadlines apply to these situations too!

If there is a problem with your grade, write it down. Create a paper trail. That way I’m unlikely to

forget or get confused/distracted. It saves your time (and is usually more

effective) if you put a descriptive note in the basket (or email me) instead of waiting to talk to me before/after class. Put your name & class period on the note.

This is High School, Part 4

Your grade is based on actual grades. If you want a higher grade, you need to earn more points. Your grade is based on math.

1) Do all the assignments. Do them before the unit late work deadline.

2) If you get a very low score on something it may be worth it to spend a punch on your slacker pass for a redo. (This is only worth it if your score will increase by more points than the slacker pass is worth.)

3) No, you can’t do a special report or something for bonus points. Do the assigned work and learn the assigned content.

Plan ahead for your grade.

higher Regent’s scholarship, I might be sad for you, but I won’t change it, and I won’t offer you one more shot after the deadline.

You will get the grade you EARN. If you do not EARN the grade you want, then you won’t get the grade you want.

I BELIEVE IN DEADLINES.

Deadlines are a thing in this class.I enforce them. If you don’t get work done by the deadline, I don’t have to give you any points.

Slacker passes are a thing in this class.I enforce & track their use.If you use up all your punches, you may not receive credit for anything else unless it is on time.
