Reflection: “Saints and sinners alike, we anticipate Christ’s coming this Advent season. And we are filled with the Spirit’s gifts that help us call out a welcome and straighten the path.” –Kathy Coffey

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel, centered on the

Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit. We are inspired by the example of Mary to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by ministering to all.

Annunciation Parish Website: www.annunciationparishabq.org

PREPARE FOR CHRISTMAS As we make preparations for the celebration of Our Lord’s birth at Christmas, we can use the word prepare as a helpful acronym.

P is for the purity of heart which leads to the vision of God. R is for reconciliation with God and with others, eschewing the sin, resentment and bitterness that block the divine indwelling. E is for the Eucharist—receiving Our Lord with a grateful heart. P is for Penance—acts of self-denial and sacrifice to overcome self—indulgence. A is for Almsgiving as we give to the needy and right some of the injustices of our world. R is for Reverence—respect for God and for God’s presence in the world and in our neighbor. E is for Eternity—by which we keep our eyes fixed on our eternal destiny, life with God forever. Let us use these treasures and practice them in order to better prepare the way of the Lord!

ONLINE GIVING There have been numerous requests about the possibility of electronic online giving. I am happy to report that with the cooperation of Our Sunday Visitor, we will now offer online giving as an option to those who prefer to donate through automatic draft. You may use the internet for the good of the parish through this secure and convenient process. Track your parish giving by signing up online. Just go to our parish website: www.annunciationparishabq.org for more information. We hope that you still use your envelopes, marked “online giver” as a sign of your participation in the ritual of the presentation of offering gifts to the altar. Thank you for your good stewardship and generosity to the parish. Remember that God cannot be outdone in generosity!

RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS Next weekend, December 10-11th, we will take up the annual collection for the retired religious sisters, brothers and priests here in the United States. Like you, senior religious have offered their lives in service to others, whether Canossians, Paracletes, Sisters of Charity, Christian Brothers or one of the 34,000 other religious past the age of 70 here in America. The situation remains critical as the retired religious is projected to outnumber religious in

compensated ministry by four to one at the end of this decade. As the religious have been so generous to us in our education and our spiritual lives, let us return the blessing with a truly supportive collection next week to assist them in retirement. Thanks to all the religious who have blessed us with grace and love for so many years! Ad multos annos!

HOLY DAY: IMMACULATE CONCEPTION This Thursday, December 8th is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation. The Immaculate Conception is the patronal feast of the United States, honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Immaculate Mother. To celebrate this Holy Day, we will have a vigil Mass on Wednesday, December 7th at 5:30 PM and the Masses on the 8th will be at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. (school Mass), and 5:30 p.m. Come and join us as we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Mother and the Patroness of our nation. O, Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse unto thee!

► Contemplative Prayer and Lectio Divina is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; it simply puts other kinds of prayer into a new and fuller perspective. During the time of prayer we consent to God’s presence and action within. At other times our attention moves outward to discover God’s presence everywhere. Those who are new to this kind of praying are invited to come for an orientation session On Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 5:30PM in St. Francis Hall. This will be followed by an actual experience of Contemplative Prayer/Lectio Divina on the Sunday Scripture readings, at 6:15 PM. Please contact Sr. Cristina for more information.

Thank you. ► Women’s Guild—Board Meeting: Wednesday, December 7, at St. Bakhita Hall after the 8:30 AM Mass.

► Senior Ministry-GEMS-Christmas Luncheon Tuesday, December 13th at 12:30 PM in St. Magdalene Hall. The luncheon will be a potluck, please contact Mary Agnes at 299-9111 to register and inform her of what you will be bringing.

Catholic Charities & Today’s Gospel: 2nd Sunday of Advent (Mark 1:1-8) John the Baptist’s mission was to point others to Christ. He did so by challenging those around himself to unsettle their complacency and prepare themselves to receive Christ when Christ came. How are you preparing yourself for Christ’s birth? Advent is a time of increased prayer, giving, fasting, anticipation, and good works. This holiday season think about Christ present in those who are struggling in your community and donate to Catholic Charities. For more information on Catholic Charities programs and how to donate please call (505) 724-4670 or look www.ccasfnm.org.
