    1. An Introduction

Wha t is hypno sis? Wha t is t he d if fe renc e b e t w ee n na tu ra lhyp no sis a nd in t end e d hyp no sis?

Hypnosis is the c ommunication between two levels of mind;Consc ious and Sub-Consc ious. The Consc ious is the questioning,Ana lytical, intellec tual part of the mind. The Sub-C onsc ious is

    The emotional and autonomic part.

    There are 2 types of hypnosis/c ommunication;

    Natural Hypnosis and Intended Hypnosis.

    1. Natural Hypnosis

Natural hypnosis is natural c ommunication it happensall the time you a re awake.

You are usually not aware of the communication.

The quality of natural hypnosis will vary.

Everyone experiences natural, hypnotic trance states, many times a day.

The best communication and hypnosis is when weare relaxed and the consc ious mind is less ac tive,da ydreaming for example. There is also a powerfulcommunication be tween the two levels of mind whenwe experience intense emotion.

    2. Intended Hypnosis

Intended Hypnosis is natural hypnosis with awareness.

Intended Hypnosis is the best quality communication, with awareness, c ontrol, safety, intention and depth.

    Hypnosis is natural.

Hypnosis is an experience c ommon to a ll human beings.

The only time we are definitely not in hypnosis is when we are in undisturbed, natural, non-dreaming sleep.

Hypnosis is the communica tion between two levels of mind, which occurs anytime that we areawake (or in dreaming sleep).

Intended hypnosis is entering this sta te with intention, awareness and control.

    Intended hypnosis is focused.

Intended hypnosis diminishes the conscious, ana lytical, intellec tual part of the mind in order toimprove c ommunica tion with the unc onscious, emotiona l part of the mind.

Intended hypnosis utilises that pa rt of the mind responsible for all change.

Intended hypnosis works when your sub-conscious mind is totally convinced (rather than yourconscious mind), and so works when willpower and determination cannot.

Intended hypnosis is the use of your mind and imagination to achieve a desired change withinyourself.

Remember the sub-conscious mind does not know the d ifference between imagination andreality.

Hypnotic Communication between waking and sleeping states.

The relax programme can only be accessed using these 3 triggers.

To exit the Relax Programme, simply open your eyes.

You cannot give suggestions in Relax. You have no hypnotic c ontac t with your subconsc ious. Keep your Relax and Hypnosis programmes apart. You cannot enter one programme from the other. If you are using Relax, you must come out safely, before you trigger the

    4. Writing SuggestionsHo w to w rite sug g est ions,Wo rd s to a vo id , me tho d s o f e n t e r ing .

Write down what it is that you want, not what you dont want. What is the outcome you most desire? How would you like to feel? How would you like to be? What will the benefits be? Deal, if possible, with the c ause and effec t.

Make a map diagram with your chosen goal in a c irc le. Then, branchingout from the c irc le, list all the important points associated with your goal.Sights, sounds, smells and other senses may play a part. The object of the

exercise is to c over every aspect and describe every detail. It is a greatway of committing your thoughts to paper.

    Empty your thoughts onto paper

What words make you feel good? Which words give you good feelings? Make a list ofthe words that appeal to you . You c an use a thesaurus to help. Ask yourself; how w ould Il ike to fee l?Remember; suggestions work best when you have intense emotion combined withrelaxation. Here are some good words you may like to use in your suggestions:

Healthy Peac e Balance Harmony Relaxed Confident

Good Happy Powerful J oyful Calm UnisonAssured Vibrant Loving Progressive Better Beautiful

When writing your suggestion, avoid the following words;-

Words that elic it ba d feelings. Words that are ambiguous Words that are limiting, restrictive or disempower you. Words that you are uncomfortable with.

When you have prepared your script, ask yourself the following questions:

Is there another phrase or word that is be tter? Is there a word or phrase I find more plea sing? Is there a way in which you can put your energy and power into this suggestion in a

    better way?

Words that elicit bad feelings Words that are put-downs Words that are absolutes

    12

Write it down and read it through several times.

Once you have written out the suggestion, put on your editing hat. Have any wordsentered without your intention? Are you happy with the finished result?

Remember that during this early period as a self-hypnotist, one suggestion per zapcan be more successful than giving many.

Generally, the best zaps are SIMPLE.

Be spec ific , concise a nd prec ise.

It is best to be spec ific about the outcome and vague about how exac tly how youwill ac hieve it. Other than suggestions for comfort and safety, it is be tter to leave it toyour sub-conscious.

Want it to work and expect it to work.

The more you want it to work, the more effec tive your suggestion will be. If in doubt, write down the pros and cons. Do you really want what you have asked for?

    Think it through.

Do not proc eed if there is any doubt about your suggestion. When in doubt, thinkabout your suggestion. Do what you can to remove the ambiguity and only thenproceed.

Ask for what you want, not what you do not want.

State your goals in the positive . Your subc onsc ious responds accurately when givenspecific instruc tions.

    Use emotive language

    Use grea t , f an ta st ic , be t t e r and be t t e r.

Say exactly what you mean and mean what you say Use clear language, free from ambiguity.

Be sure to ask for exactly what you want

Bec ause you are likely to get exac tly what you a sked for!

Your subconscious is literal, you are likely to get what you asked for, whether youwant it or not!

Set a time to start and finish

Suggestions should have a time to start and in some cases, a time to finish.

    Label/ title your suggestions

This makes altering, boosting or removing them easier.

    Suggestions for pain control

Suggestions for the removal of pa in and discomfort should be used as Hypnot i cTa b lets that are effec tive for 1-2 hours. This is especially important when you c annotidentify the cause of pa in. It ensures that you do not ignore the bodys alarm system.

When you are recovering from surgery or injury, ensure tha t you maintain awareness.

Your suggestion should finish at the same time as the healing process completes.

    Remember your achievements using hypnosis

    Success breeds success.

    Visualisation

Your unconsc ious responds well to images and symbols, as long as you are c learabout their meaning.

Continue to protect yourself from random thought, sound and image having hypnoticinfluence. Use your self-hypnosis to make writing suggestions easier and more enjoyable.

Suggestions work better when they are written in Lo op s .

Looping is a way to make your suggestion stronger through the use of a virtuous circle.

    For example,

Write your programme in a loop (including your suggestions #1, #2, #3 etc.)

Include the following into every suggestion you write:

This will promote, endorse and encourage be tter quality sleep and better qualityhypnosis with every loop of every suggestion you write.

On entering hypnosis, give control and full hypnotic authority to your voice on thetape.

Lie back and enjoy the ride!

Music can be a very powerful aid to your hypnosis; do remember these two importantrules when using music:

Only use an instrumental piece sung or spoken words may have hypnotic influence. Do not use an instrumental piec e that has memorable words. For example, the

instrumental version of I m not in love by 10cc may have a detrimental effec t on yourmarriage!

At first, use all 3 methods of entering suggestions and see which works best for you. Whenyou choose your favourite, you c an use zap to make sure that all the other methods work

    just as effec tively.
