Machine Modernization and Overhaul

Project Description Sulzer was awarded the contract for the major overhaul and controls’ upgrade for a

AEG-Kanis steam turbine and MAN LP and HP turbocompressor.

The ChallengeThe most challenging tasks in the project were: Compliance to SIL-3 Safety Integrity Level Project management and execution of both projects within turnaround schedule

Our SolutionSulzer offered a combined project for both the overhaul and modernization projects Sulzer complied to SIL-3 by using the unique Tetrasentry Turbine Hydraulic Trip System In preparation to the shutdown spare rotors were inspected and modified.

Emergency repair of cracked LP turbine casingProject Description Sulzer was awarded the contract for an emergency repair of a steam turbine and

repair of cracked LP casing after a catastrophic fire on a propylene plant in a refinery Scope included:

Complete dis- and assembly on site, incl. start-up assistance Repair of cracked LP casing incl. machining Shop inspection and repair of all HP and LP turbine components Shop assembly of HP and LP casings with spare rotor

The Challenge The most challenging task was to find a suitable repair process for the casing and

shortest possible lead time.

Overhaul and modification of turbo compressorProject Description Sulzer was awarded the contract for the major overhaul, inspection and modification

of a natural gas pipeline compressor. Scope included:

Complete change out of compressor bundle on site, incl. start-up assistance Overhaul, inspection and modification of removed bundle and rotor in workshop Modification to split line (additional o-ring grooves and split line bolts) Modification to diaphragms and dry gas seal housing

The Challenge Customer experienced operational issues (i.e. internal split line leakage) which

required modifications

Our SolutionSulzer was able to offer a fully integrated work scope Sulzer supplied a complete field service crew for the on-site change out, including

fully equipped tool- and hoisting containers Sulzers workshop was able to execute all necessary machining works for the required

modifications and overhaul works

customer received a complete and tailored solution which solved the machines’s operational issues.
