Who is Johnathan IveBorn: February 1967 Occupation: Senior Vice President of Design Apple Inc.Nationality: British Salary: £1,000,000+

Jonathan Ive is a British born designer who now works for Apple in the US.

Ive was originally born in Chingford, London and attended Northumbria University to study Industrial Design.

He started his career at Tangerine a London based design agency. Johnathan moved to the United States in 1992 to pursue his career at Apple.

He was promoted to his current title in 1997 when Steve Jobs returned as CEO of Apple.Since then he has remained as the head of the Industrial Design team, responsible for the company’s most significant hardware.Ive has been greatly influenced by the German designer Dieter Rams, who was the Chief of Design at Braun from 1961 to 1995. Much of Rams’ design principles have been

present in Apple’s products steming from Ive’s presence as designer.

Apple have even gone to the extent of mimicing the 1987 Braun calculator in their iOS devices.

Rams has also stated in the documentary Objectified that Apple is the only company that adhere’s to his 10 principles to good design.

I think that Ive is an extremely successful figure as Apple is seen as the innovators in the design industry and everyone else is trying to match their products, where many of them have been concieved by Jonathan Ive.

Personally I believe that he should be recognised more in the design industry as

one of the people who made Apple where they are today.

If it had not been for Ive’s influence i don’t think that Apple’s designs would have been as successful.

Some of the traits that I think has made him so successful is his passion to create a ‘greater product’ in his videos he is always remarking how he strives to create more simple, more user friendly and all round greater experience for the user.

This dedication to innovation is an amazing quality to have, as he is creating products designed to be breathtaking, not focused on beating the competition.
