SIXMUST-DO’S OF STYLE

There are sooooo many rules to know and abide by but, you don’t have to live by all of them. They are great “to know” because they allow you to see your closet building in a new light. Here are six rules I love!

STYLE RULES

1. Aim for balance: mix

masculine with feminine. A

full skirt in a heavier

textile, or menswear-

inspired wool trousers

offset with a silky,

feminine top.

2. Build around your shoes:

costume designer Lyn

Paolo says every outfit

should be built from the

bottom up because they

determine your stance,

posture, silhouette, etc.

3. Accessories are the glue:

great clothes are great but

accessories are the

finishing touch to your

look. Don’t skimp!

4. Bigger can slenderize:

voluminous pieces can

actually minimize. The

easiest way to slenderize

hips is by wearing a full

skirt…

5. Hueing adds

sophistication: it’s the

best way to do

monochromatic. Do lighter

on top to draw attention

and darker hues on the

bottom

6. Define your waist: no

matter what’s going on in

the midsection, a slightly

wide belt cinches the

waist and creates shape

TRENDS…TO TRY

• Full skirts are 100% feminine

2. Tweed moto jacket (we

already talked about

this)

3. Cognac belt (to work with

every tent dress and

oversized sweater)

4. Sweater vest (it’s perfect

to add polish to denim or

a pencil skirt but not too

much formality)

5. Unordinary cardigan

(still a throw-on but on

another level)

6. Print dress (for a

business meeting that

turns into date night)

7. Tall, mid-heel boot (for

work or play, and allows

you some comfort too)

• Maroon/aubergine are warm and inviting but bold and work well with other staple colors

• Fedora instead of baseball cap

• Mixing prints• Sweater dresses

• Edgy feminine pieces like tweed moto jackets
