Pastor’s Musing A bishop, a priest and a deacon, were about to be executed for preaching the Gospel in a foreign land. They bring out the bishop first and the guard shouts, “Ready. . . Aim. . .”

and suddenly the bishop yells, “EARTHQUAKE.” When everyone looks around, the bishop runs off. Next they bring out the priest. The guard shouts, “Ready. . . Aim. . .” and suddenly the priest yells ‘TORNADO.” When everyone ducks, the priest runs off. By then, of course the deacon had it figured out. They bring him out, and when the guard shouts, “Ready. . . Aim. . .” Suddenly the deacon yells, “FIRE.”

Message from the Pastor W elcome to St. Ambrose ! We are so glad you are able to join us

today to celebrate the Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. ’TIS THE GIFT TO BE SIMPLE: The Shaker hymn describes a circular journey from innocence to innocence with characteristic brevity: ’Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free. ’Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be. This journey is easier sung about than done. It takes humility and time to recover a second innocence. Titles, positions of honor, money, and power are not requirements of the kingdom of God. Jesus says and demonstrates in today’s Gospel that members of God’s kingdom must hold in their embrace the most inconsequen-tial of persons, for that person is identified with Jesus. This attitude ran counter to the intuition of the world of Jesus’ time, as it does in ours. The simplicity set forth by Jesus requires the shedding of unnecessary, unimportant, false, and burdensome attachments that earthly power demands. Membership in the Kingdom is light enough to put a song in our heart. Have a wonderful week—Remember—the most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling; and even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it!

REFLECTIONS Charles R. Swindoll relates the following story in relation to the building of character: Edith, a mother of eight, was coming home from a neighbor’s house in Darlington, Maryland, one Saturday afternoon. Things seemed too quiet as she walked across her front yard. Curious, she peered through the screen door and saw five of her youngest children huddled together, concentrating on something. As she crept closer to them, trying to discover the center of attention, she could not believe her eyes. Smack dab in the middle of the circle were five baby skunks. Edith screamed at the top of her voice, ‘Quick, children...run!’ Each kid grabbed a skunk and ran.

TAKE FIVE FOR FAITH:TAKE FIVE FOR FAITH:TAKE FIVE FOR FAITH: Daily renewal for busy Catholics

In our hour of need Mary has been held up as a model of courage since the earliest centuries. Saint Ambrose in the fourth century sees Mary as a powerful witness at the foot of the cross, refusing to abandon her son even when most of his disciples fled. Imagine the pain of seeing your own child brutally executed. At so many moments in her life Mary displayed this remarkable courage—only the deepest faith could have sustained her. When you face your most difficult moments, think of Mary, recall her courage in the face of sorrow, and call upon that same faith to see you through. TakeFiveDaily.com

It was wonderful to get away, spend time in fellowship with each other and parishioners of 4 neighboring parishes from Deerfield/Boca to focus on our relationship with Christ and our role in this world as children of God.
