Why do we resent the well-being of others? In today's Gospel, the workers who were called to

work early in the morning resent those who were called at the end of the day and were paid the same, and they resent the generosity of the owner of the vineyard. So focused on the money the last group received, they cannot share in the joy of people who have found a job. This parable teaches us about God's paradoxical generosity and mercy. God always welcomes those who seek his presence and refuge, regardless of whether it be early in their lifetime or later on in years. As Pope Francis would say, we cannot allow ourselves to enter into a dialogue with the enemy that consumes our hearts with envy, allowing hatred and resentment to take over our feelings. This Gospel should prompt hospitality ministers to evaluate the way they welcome those who enter into our church buildings on weekends. How are visitors treated? Are they invited into the liturgical assembly with the other members of the assembly? Do our ministers introduce these newcomers to our priests, other lay ministers, and volunteers?

Mass Intentions & Schedule The dispensation from the obligation to attend and participate at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days remains in effect until further notice for all who may be hesitant at this time to be in larger gatherings. St. Theodore will continue to provide the opportunity to listen to Mass on 1450 AM, KATE radio.

From the Desk of Father Kurt This past Saturday I was asked if I wanted to come help pick grapes at

a local vineyard. I had the morning free so I decided to go. Once

arriving at the vineyard I was given a bucket to fill and a tool to cut the

vines, so the grapes could easily fall into the pail. The grape clusters

were very large and full of grapes, so it didn’t take very long to fill a

bucket. It was not long before we had accumulated the desired

number of grapes for the wine making. It took only an hour and a half

and the weather was beautiful. My experience got me thinking about

the parable in the Gospel for today. The men who started first had

worked all day long and the weather was hot. I suppose when the day

came to a close it got a lot cooler. Those who were hired last probably

had a good experience working like I did, and those that worked all day

did not, and yet all were paid the same. No wonder they were a little

mad, but they were only mad because they were jealous. I think Jesus

is trying to get us to be happy for those that get invited in last. It

should not matter if we have to work a little harder in life as long as we

reach our goal, which is heaven. How could we not wish this for

others.

Love in Christ, Father Kurt Farrell

Gratitude from Bishop John Quinn Most Rev. John M. Quinn, Bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester would like to share with you his gratitude and appreciation for your generosity towards the Catholic

Ministries Appeal, which is a primary source of funding to help sustain and expand ministries in parishes, Catholic schools, Newman Centers and countless programs and ministries of the Diocesan church.

During these uncertain times, parishioners have come together and shown their continued support of their local parishes and diocesan church. Your donations and gifts have helped support countless Catholics across the diocese. It is truly a work of God's people.

It is through the Catholic Ministries Appeal that the Church is able to SHARE HIS GOOD GIFTS WITH ALL.

Blessed are you!

Most Rev. John M. Quinn

Special Collection: The Diocese of Winona/Rochester is currently holding a special collection appeal for the victims of Hurricane Laura and

the California Wildfires. Parishioners can give to either or both causes by placing their donation in a clearly marked envelope and dropping it in the collection basket. Your donation will then be sent to the Diocese in your name. Please make your checks out to “Diocese of Winona /Rochester.
