23rd Sunday In Ordinary Time
Let souls who are striving for perfection particularly adore My Mercy, because the abundance of graces which I grant them flows from My Mercy. I desire that these souls distinguish themselves by boundless trust in
My Mercy. I myself will attend to the sanctification of such souls. I will provide them with everything they will need to attain sanctity. The graces of My Mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is - trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive. Souls that trust boundlessly are a great comfort to Me, because I pour all the treasures of My graces into them. I rejoice that they ask for much, because it is My desire to give much, very much. On the other hand, I am sad when souls ask for little, when they narrow their hearts.
(Diary 1578)
Jesus, I trust in your mercy. Help me to attain sanctity.

Mi 5:1-4a or Rom 8:28-30; Ps 13:6ab, 6c; Mt 1:1-16, 18-23 or 1:18-23 In the case of saints, the Church commemorates their date of death, with Saint John the Baptist and the Virgin Mary as the few
whose birth dates are commemorated. The reason for this is found in the singular mission each had in salvation history, but traditionally also because these alone (besides the prophet Jeremiah, Jer 1:5) were holy in their very birth
Friday Saint Peter Claver, Priest 1 Cor 9:16-19, 22b-27; Ps 84:3, 4, 5-6, 12; Lk 6:39-42 He was a Spanish Jesuit priest and missionary born in Verdú (Catalonia) who, due to his life and work, became the patron saint of slaves, the
Republic of Colombia and ministry to African Americans. During the 40 years of his ministry in Colombia it is estimated he personally baptized around 300,000 people. He is also patron saint for seafarers. He is considered a heroic example of what should be the Christian praxis of love and of the exercise of human rights.

PARISH DIRECTORY
Evangelization has always been essential to the Church’s mission. These short articles are part of continuing series to highlight this fact as seen in Catholic teaching over the past 50 years. Here is a short description of the next document on our list.*
Christi Fidelis Laici (The Lay Members of Christ’s Faithful People) was published by Pope St. John Paul II in December of 1988 as the summary of the teaching that came out of the 1987 synod of bishops on the vocation and mission of the laity <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laity>. “CFL” emphasized the role of the Laity in the mission of the Church, which is an essential part of the new evangelization. For evangelization to truly happen, every lay person needs to take part in the evangelization efforts of the Church. In a certain sense, one cannot be a Christian and not evangelize, no more can salt remain salt and not be salty. One of the ways Holy Redeemer is responding to mobilize the laity to evangelize is the “Alpha Course”, which is a no-pressure way of learning and experiencing the most basic yet powerful tenets of our Faith. It has been particularly effective at reinvigorating the faith of who are already involved but especially in bringing those who may have no Church background or have fallen away back into the Church. NOTE THE CHANGES IN THE START DATES FOR ALPHA: Alpha begins on Wed Sept 14, as opposed to the 7th as originally announced, at 6:30pm and Sun, Sept 11 at noon. Both in the Underground (the basement of the of Holy Redeemer School). Call the parish by Tues, Sept 6 to sign up. Raffy Urgino, Director of Evangelization and Formation, Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 1227 Bristol Road, Burton, MI 48529 810.244.1693
LITURGIES Sat 5:00 p.m. Sun 9:00, 11:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Tues. 5:30 p.m. Wed. 6:30 p.m. Thurs. & Fri. 8:30 a.m. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Devotion after the Wed. evening and Thur. morning Masses. Glory, Praise and Adoration Encounter 6:30 p.m. the first Friday of each month.

HOPE IN FLINT DAY – SEPTEMBER 10 Deacons from around the Diocese of Lansing are gathering at St. Mary’s Church in Flint for a day of hope. St. Mary’s is located in the northeast side of Flint and there is a push being made to reach out to the local community; to let them know the church is present and available to serve, pray, and be for them. The day will consist of adoration, reconciliation, food, games for children, and walking the neighborhood “two by two.”
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
The hope is to give away school supplies to the children that come to St. Mary’s. Donations of pens, pencils, crayons, markers, notebooks etc. are needed. St. Mary’s also has a food pantry that serves the neighborhood. Nonperishable food items and toiletries are needed. Please leave your items at the Welcome Desk after the masses. More importantly though, we need people to come to Flint and pray. Please bring your youth group, your bible study group, your prayer team, your family, you. Come pray a rosary outside in the parking lot, host your bible study group in the outdoors. Come be a visible, living sign that the Church is alive. This is HOPE. Eucharistic Adoration will be from 10a.m.-4p.m., Bishop Boyea will celebrate Mass at 4:30p.m. Every one is welcome.
