Wife, Mother,

Philanthropist,

and

Entrepreneur!

Shannon Cromwell Brown, a

native of Charleston, SC, has

been a resident of Madison,

MS for the past 8 years. She is

a mother, wife, entrepreneur

and philanthropist. Shannon

and her family moved from

Nashville, TN due to a job op-

portunity for her husband.

She is married to Dr. Samuel F.

Brown, OB/Gyn and diVinci

Robotic Surgeon, who was also

her college sweetheart. They

are approaching their 18 year

of marriage this December.

They have three children, Sam-

uel 15, Alexia 12, and Antonio,

15 months, who is their newly

adopted baby boy who was ob-

tained through a private adop-

tion within her family. When

asked by a younger cousin,

who was struggling to find her

way in life and had experienced

several hardships, to adopt the

unborn baby, Shannon and her

husband accepted the child

and he is now a big part of

their family. “I wanted to help

my family and I refused to allow

him to enter into the foster care

system” says Shannon. As a

trained counselor and therapist,

she has worked with kids from

all backgrounds that are in the

system and has witnessed the

impact a loving and stable

home environment has on the

lives of such children, especially

one with a strong father figure.

“He is truly my son and I feel no

difference between him and

P. 6

our other children.” Shannon and

the biological family maintain

their family ties and enjoy watch-

ing Antonio grow and develop

into a healthy child.

However, at one day old, Antonio

was diagnosed with a congenital

heart defect. He needed to have

heart surgery. The surgery was

successfully performed at Blair E.

Batson Children’s Hospital in Jan-

uary. Contrary to the circum-

stances, Antonio is strong and

healthy and now walking and

even trying to run. “All I can say

is ‘Look at God’ he is our mira-

cle.”

Furthermore, Shannon attended

South Carolina State University

(HBCU) and received a BS in Psy-

chology. She then received a

M.ED. in Rehabilitation Counsel-

ing from the University Of South

Carolina, School Of Medicine.

Shannon has worked in the field

of counseling across the states of

South Carolina, Tennessee and

Mississippi coordinating various

programs.

Mrs. Brown has developed and

directed the counseling ministry

at New Jerusalem Church and

has held positions as Children

Church Coordinator and VBS Di-

rector there.

Shannon has held the titles of

Mrs. Madison America 2009

and Mrs. Madison County

America 2010 in the Mrs. Mis-

sissippi America Pageants. She

was the only African American

candidate represented in both

the pageants. Her platform

was “building self-esteem in

women”. She held several

speaking engagements giving

her personal testimony of living

with Lupus and encouraging

women to accept the beautiful

person that God has created

within them. She was motivat-

ed by her own challenges with

self-esteem as lupus affected

and continues to affect her skin

and causes her to be sick and

hospitalized from time to time.

“Sometimes it really takes a

toll on my body and knocks me

to my knees but I always get

back up fighting because God

told me that by His stripes I am

healed and I live my life this

way each day.”

Shannon maintains her health

by eating healthy, exercising

and doing her best to remain

stress free. She is a proud

member of Beta Delta Omega

Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha

Sorority, Inc. (A.K.A.)

“Although I am a very private

person, I choose to share my

testimony to give someone

hope who is dealing with the

same condition where they

may say, hey look at her. If

she can do that so can I.”

Recently Shannon was induct-

ed into the Second Edition of

Who’s Who in Black Missis-

sippi for being an outstanding

Community Leader. She was

recognized for her work with

homeless women and part-

nering with Actress Ms. Vivica

A. Fox for The Run Way of

Love Fashion Show last Febru-

ary.

Shannon is the owner of a

new upscale, lingerie bou-

tique called Laces by Lexi. The

boutique is located at 111

Colony Crossing Way, #270,

Madison, MS 39110.

She sells sexy, elegant and so-

phisticated lingerie for wom-

en and young ladies. She will

also carry a selection of plus

sizes for her more voluptuous

clientele. In addition, Shan-

non will feature French Kiss

Shoes by Shannon within the

Is It over Between Kimora Lee Simmons

and Djimon Hounsou?

According to rumors, the couple who have been married for 4 years, may be splitting up.

It has been reported that “money issues” caused the split. However, a Sudanese author

went on record stating that she is the cause for the split because she slept with Hounsou

throughout his marriage to Kimora. Hounsou vehemently denies the rumors and states

that he has never met the woman who is making the claim. Djimon further states: “I am a

man of integrity and would never betray my wife or my family."

On a side note: As of September 1st, Kimora Simmons has parted ways with Baby Phat. "After 14 years of conceiving and nurturing Baby Phat, it's time for me to move on and fur-

ther expand my other businesses and create a new phenomenon,"
