Settlers Farm Campus R-7 Term 2— Week 10, 4th July 2019
Dear Families, This is our last Newsletter for what has been a very action packed term 2. How time flies when you are having fun (or is it when you are getting old, like me)!!! I
hope that you find this edition of our Newsletter interesting and informative.
Deputy Principal for Terms 3 & 4 I am pleased to announce that Michael Kerrisk will be continuing as our Deputy Principal in terms 3 and 4 while I am on leave. We are thrilled that Michael is continuing with us. He is a wonderful addition to the Settlers Farm Campus Team. Farewells We wish Eleni all the best with the birth of her second child due early in term 3. Mandy Axisa, Brooke Wheeldon, and Lauren Burton have all had contracts with us and unfortunately their contracts end tomorrow. We would like to thank them for the work they have done educating our students this year. Welcome Back In term 3 we welcome back: Bill Dinos from leave. Bill will be teaching Year 3s in H02. Bianca Johnston from maternity leave. Bianca will be teaching Year 4s in
D03. Rebecca Raphael from maternity leave. Rebecca will be teaching Year
1s in C02. R-7 Arts Specialist Teacher Terence, who has been on sick leave. I04 Reception Teacher Mary-Jane, who has been on sick leave. E04 Year 7 Teacher Jane, who has been on sick leave. They have been greatly missed and it will be wonderful to have them all back on deck next term. Mid-Year Student Reports Reports were sent home yesterday. As a Parent/Caregiver you will receive 2 formal reports throughout the year, at the end of term 2 and the end of term 4. Teachers plan, assess and report student learning using the Australian Curriculum. Each learning area has achievement standards. If students are achieving what they should know at that year level standard then they will typically receive a ‘C’ grade in years 1-7. To receive a higher grade reflects that students are demonstrating a higher understanding of their learning and the ability to transfer that knowledge into other contexts. So, different to our experiences at school, a ‘C’ grade is the expected achievement for most students. To allocate grades to students, teachers use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies and base their judgements on evidence of learning. Reception students do not receive A to E grades in any school. Instead we have a different grading scale on those reports. If you do not understand your child’s report or would like to discuss your child’s progress further, please make a time with your child’s teacher early in term 3 for a conversation. Optional interviews are available at your request.

Learning The
Cello
I have been learning the Cello for about 4 weeks
now and Sonia has been my Cello Teacher. I have shared my learning with other classes. The best thing about the Cello is the sound because it is
relaxing and fun.

Farewell Jo On Tuesday afternoon, we bid farewell to Jo Sayers as she takes leave to care for her father in term 3 and 4. Jo’s caring nature, wonderful sense of humour and
competent leadership has steered the site forward in a positive direction that has
been appreciated by Settlers Farm Staff and Community Members. Accompanied with
the music from Chariots of Fire, she handed the Principal Baton to Leeanne
Trewartha as we prepare to continue this fantastic journey. We wish Jo all the best
as she takes leave and will eagerly anticipate her return in 2020.
Excursions, Incursions, Learning Experiences I am really proud of the learning programs that our staff provide for our students. Staff work really hard to make learning interesting and engaging. Thank You
I would just like to say thank you to all Staff, Students and Families for all of the help, support, encouragement and positive feedback that you have given me over the past 2 terms as Principal. I have absolutely loved being the Princi-pal of Settlers Farm Campus R-7. Unfortunately my father is having a number of health challenges and I am taking leave to help and support him in terms 3 and 4. I look forward to returning as Deputy Principal in 2020. I know that you will all make our new Principal Leanne Trewartha feel very wel-come when she commences at SFC next term. I know she
will love working at our school.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy school holidays. I look forward to seeing you all next year.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind Regards,
Jo

Wow! What a successful disco this was! Last Friday was a busy disco day with over 410 pre-orders of food, drinks and chocolates placed with many others sold at the disco and approximately 600 students attending across 3 discos throughout the day. The students’ behaviour was exceptional with the DJ complimenting our students at the end of the day telling me himself how wonderful their behaviour was. John the DJ has been attending our discos at SFC for 13 years. We had door prize giveaways and students winning best dancing prizes at the disco. If we could give away prizes for staff, Sarah Breuker our PCW and Tyrell our new ACEO would have both won hands down. They certainly had the moves! It was a great day for all involved and we thank our students, parents and staff for supporting this school fundraising event. We raised $2889 and are currently making enquiries into how we can fund a therapy dog for Settlers Farm Campus with our funds raised during 2019. More information to come over the next term. A big thank you to Amy Hutchinson a Parent and Governing Council Member for volunteering to help out at the disco. Tania Dal Zotto

On Wednesday 19th June 2019, Settlers Farm Campus celebrated Harmony
Day combined with Reconciliation Week as a whole school day event. There
was a whole school assembly which featured the choir and an Aboriginal
dance performance by Milan Dhiiyaan. Students participated in national
flower making and origami craft which included the making of fish, butterflies
and paper cranes.
All students went to an animal show where they saw and learnt more about
Australian animals. They also saw an Aboriginal dance performance by Milan
Dhiiyaan where there was Aboriginal dance, singing and dream time stories.
It was a momentous event and was enjoyed by all!

On Monday the 27th May and Tuesday 28th May 2019, we went to the Adelaide Convention Centre to attend the Aboriginal Students STEM Congress 2019. It started with an Aboriginal dance performance which featured animal dances, followed by a DJ performance with a dance performance. After this, we had our first workshop which was about drones. We got to fly drones and it was fun. After this, we had a design and tech workshop with an Engineering University expert. On Tuesday, we had a VR workshop where we got to see how much our heart was beating when we were playing an interactive game while listening to music. It was really fun and interesting. After this, we went into the space dome where we saw different planets and stars.....
“It was really fun and it was a good opportunity for kids to bring out their inner creativity in a science way. It definitely made me think a lot more about these
subjects .” – Saul
“I had a really good time and the food was good. It was an opportunity for us to think about what jobs we could have as there are many jobs we can go for. It made me think
about more than just playing video games and going on You Tube.” - Braidon

Out & About With Callistemon
Once Upon a Castle I used card boxes. I used a big box for the tower. Then I used a platform for the top. After I did a base and I used a texta to do some windows and I used plenty of sticky tape. Adem B03
On Tuesday May 28th, year 1 students from Callistemon went on an excursion to the Adelaide Zoo. Our focus was to learn about Australian animals, their features and their habitats. Despite the forecast poor weather we kept dry and had a great day learning about the animals.
On Tuesday we went to the Zoo. First we went on the bus. Next we ate recess, then we looked at the animals. My favourite animal was the Koala and the Pelican because they are very fluffy. Then we went in the bus and went home. Rielyn C03 On last Tuesday I went to the Zoo. I saw some animals. First we ate some things. Then I saw some birds. Next I saw a Panda. It was cute. Then I saw two Koalas and a Lyre Bird. I had fun. Lily R C03
On Tuesday we got on the bus. When we got there we had recess at the zoo. We saw a Blue Tongue Lizard and Meerkats. Dora C03
Once Upon a Castle On Monday, 24/06/19 we made a castle. We went to Ira the music teacher’s room. I made a small castle and a cart way. The flags on my castle worked well but the door bridge didn’t. I got help from Adem. I used materials, scissors and masking tape. The reason we went into Ira’s room was because there was more space in there. I drew windows with a texta and my teacher Lindy and Deb our SSO helped some people cut the window and door bridge. Justin’s castle was big, very big. Nicole B03

Halfway through the year already and wow, time has flown! For this final newsletter of the term I thought I’d share some of the recess and lunch activities I have been doing with the students during the 4 days that I am at school. We have had lots of fun doing craft activities including Mother ’s Day crafts, finger puppets, pom poms for sports day, origami, practising some dot painting skills around Reconciliation Day and a lot of colouring pages. We have also played board games, used playdoh, slime and kinetic sand to make some fun shapes and models and we even had a paper plane contest. One of the most popular activities this term was chalk drawing. Last week we covered the entire Main Yard in chalk art, as you can see from the photos the students had a wonderful time and we have some truly talented artists in our midst, even drawing a giant version of their class teacher, Connie! Including her beautiful earrings and big heart! Hope you all have a safe and happy school holidays!

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with
Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about
supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability
Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
year of schooling.
category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional.
level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary
substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools.
consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools.
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational
outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
Kind regards
