PACHIM KETANIM FROM RABBI YUDIN: IN HONOR OF SHABBOS CHOL HAMOED SUKKOT AND SHEMINI ATZERET
The Talmud Sukkah (48a) tells us that in six ways, Shemini Atzeret is a “regel bifnei atzmo”- an independent
holiday. Two of the six ways are: 1) we recite shehecheyanu on this Yom Tov and 2) in our tefillos, we recite
“yom Shemini Atzeret” and not “yom HaSukkot.” The Roziner Rebbe z’l applied Shemini Atzeret to the follow-
ing well-known Talmud. In Shabbos (31a) a potential convert asked to be converted if Hillel could explain the
Torah on regel achat- one foot. Hillel answered, “Valach seni…”- what is distasteful to you, do not do to your
fellow. Or the positive, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Said the Rebbe, the convert was actually looking to
understand the essence of each mitzvah and asked, “What is the character of the one regel (which means
both foot and holiday in Hebrew), namely, Shemini Atzeret?” Hillel answered, “Its character is one of love.”
Hashem says I love the Jewish people and can’t let them go. Therefore, stay with Me another day.” We show
our love to Hashem by loving one another, since a parent is most happy when there is harmony, not strife
among the children.

Current Mikveh hours are Sunday – Thursday from 8:00pm - 9:30pm. The Mikvah opens on Motzei Shabbat and Motzei Yom Tov approximately one hour after Shabbat and Yom Tov ends, and stays open for 1-1/2 hours. Please note that any arrival after 1/2 hour before closing time will incur a $25.00 late fee. YOUTH DEPARTMENT SCHEDULE Youth Minyan will take place this week. Teen Minyan MVP Program (Boys ages 9-11/ Grades 4, 5, and 6) will meet in the Jr Cong room at 9:00am. Cocoa and Conversation (Girls ages 9-11/ Grades 4, 5, and 6) will meet in the Jr Congregation room at 9:00am. Junior Congregation (ages 7-8/ Grades 2 and 3) will meet at 9:00am in the Jr Congregation room. Super Siddur Program (ages 5-6/ Kindergarten and 1st grade) will meet at 9:00am in the first classroom on the left. Busy Beginners Program (ages 2.5-4) will meet at 9:00am in the middle class-room. Tot Shabbat (ages 0-3) will meet at 10:30am in the upstairs Beit Medrash. NOTE: Children’s special “Build a Sukkah” program will take place at 10:30am in the Shul Sukkah.
