Tai Pei Buddhist Centre held a Liang Huang Bao Repentance (梁皇宝忏) Ceremony from 7 to 9 April 2017 during the Qing Ming period. Liang Huang Bao Repentance, also known as Emperor Liang’s Repentance or Jewel Repentance of Liang Emperor consists of 9 parts and usually separated into three books.

This unique and powerful repentance ceremony is aimed at eradicating bad karma and to liberate all beings from suffering through one’s repentance of unwholesome deeds committed through body, speech and mind – a beneficial act where one can also share merits with the deceased. There was also the Da Mong Shan Service where many prayers, food offerings and dedication of merits were also sincerely carried out by descendants, devotees and the Sangha for all sentient beings.

Nirvana Memorial Garden held its annual Qing Ming Enlightenment Ceremony from 24 to 26 March 2017. The three-day prayer ceremony saw close to 8,000 people who went to pay their respects to their ancestors and/or deceased loved ones. In conjunction with the prayer ceremony, Nirvana offered various ceremony packages such as the "Filial Piety for Ancestors",

"Prayers for Infant Spirits" and "Prayers for Karmic Creditors" to help with prayer and merit dedications.

During this Qing Ming period, flowers, vegetarian and paper offerings can be bought at the specially set up retail area. Nirvana also provided several prayer options that comprised a set-up pedestal and a table of offerings – paper offerings, candles, fruits and vegetarian meals, together with complimentary chanting services by monks. Outdoor tentage with tables were also set up for the public to conduct their prayers. In addition, free shuttle services plying between Boon Lay MRT Station and Nirvana Memorial Garden were also provided on a daily basis.

THE FIRST PIECE - RETURN TO INNOCENCEThe National University of Singapore Buddhist Society (NUSBS) first pilot Bud-dhist Music Concert is a joint production with the Singapore Buddhist Music HQ. Aptly titled The First Piece – Return to Innocence, it was held on 1 April 2017, 7pm-9.30pm at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House Auditorium.

Performers performed many beautiful pieces of meaningful Buddhist songs in-cluding “Brahma of My Heart”, dedicated to parents who are the true heroes and the Brahmas of our hearts. Also, there were many upbeat songs such as “Lifelong Friend”, a cheerful song about friendship that reminds us of our precious friends who have been there for us through good times and bad times.

And what truly touched and inspired the audience was the modern interpretation and rendition of the Buddha’s teachings in songs like “Follow the Path” that is grounded and guided by the Noble Eightfold Path and “Wheel of Life”, an origi-nal by the Malaysian band The Wayfarers in 9182, this song is one of the earlier Buddhist hymns, composed from a poem, Samsara describing our wheel of life.

FIRST BUDDHIST CONCERT NUSBS

This concert was proudly presented by the NUSBS 38th Management Commit-tee whose goal is to create a platform for the NUS community who are interesetd to learn Buddhism, to provide them with good resources to support their learning of the Dharma and to help propagate the Buddha’s teachings.

Evening of Joy and Gratitude

One of the concert-goers, Zhi Huang shared, “Grateful for being able to at-tend this event.”
