Dear Parishioners and Friends, After thirty years in administration I am rethinking the idea of taking on another term as a pastor at St. Frances de Chantal. Although somewhat successful at it, administration truly does not come easily to me, has turned me into a work-a-holic, which has come at the expense of pastoral duties and spiritual reflection. I recently had a meeting with His Eminence and respectfully asked him, if he could do without me in administration, I would like to return to the position of parochial vicar in a parish that may need one. He was his usual understanding self and promised to meet with his Personnel Staff to consider it. I know this will come as surprise to staff and volunteers, family and friends alike who have worked closely with me over the years. However, I have identified administration as that restless feeling I have been experiencing for a while. I am hoping that I can serve parishioners at St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights in a way that does not have the feel of my always worrying about temporal matters. I hope I can concentrate on the pastoral and spiritual. With prayers, Monsignor Barry Fr. Benjamin is taking a well deserved trip back to India to visit his family. We pray for a wonderful visit. When he returns in mid-August he will be gone most weekends conducting Mission appeals for his Indian bishop. Sadly, however, Fr. Benjamin is leaving us and taking a new assignment in Buffalo Diocese. He has been absolutely wonderful to us. He will be sorely missed. I hope he sends back his new address so that we can all reach out to him. Well Received Compliments were abundant last Friday and Saturday during the opening of the 2017 Mass Book Intentions. Due to the fact that we computerized the Mass Book, we are able to take 5 requests at a time at 5 computer stations rather than one request at a time on the one reservation book. A computerized Mass Book was the brain child of James Wilson, our head sacristan and shift manager for student desk workers. He went to Fr. Philip Danquan, a computer programmer to develop the idea. As a result, Saint Barnabas is on the cutting edge to be a better service to our parishioners.

The purpose of the “Mass Book” is for any parishioner who wants to memorialize a particular scheduled Mass for a loved one, most of the time it is a deceased loved one that is remember on a birthday or anniversary. A particular Mass can also be for a living person or in thanksgiving for a prayer answered. These are called “announced” Masses, meaning the name of the loved one is announced in the weekly bulletin and can also be announced at the Mass that is being offered.

There is also “unannounced” Masses. This means a priest will offer a Mass for your intention but the name is not “announced” because that priest will be saying a private Mass or that priest may be a missionary to whom Msgr. Barry sent the request because we are not able to accommodate the request in the parish. To request a Mass, simply arrange it with the rectory front desk receptionist.

A special thanks to our student workers who manned the computers Friday and Saturday and to our mature helpers who gave out receipts for their donations toward the Mass and organized the schedule of Masses.

James Wilson Thomas Baggio Gloria Porco Jennifer Anderson Terence Tunnock Mary McMahon Jillian Crockett Jose Hernandez Helen Winters Mike Peche Eileen Hyland The High School Convent is alive again. A decision was made to pull the Convent off the market when the Marist Brothers asked to rent the building from us beginning August 1, 2016. Seven Marist Brothers will be living in the convent. They will also use it for office work and vocation recruitment for their Order. The Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal frequently sends thank you notes to us. Once more they sent a note for Saint Barnabas’ kind and generous support of their Food Pantry. I also have to note that Kathy Hassett, one of our parishioners loads up her car with our food donations and delivers the entire supply single handedly. Amazing! She could probably use help on the 3rd Sunday of the month around 2:30pm in the High School Cafeteria.
