May is a month of spe-
cial Marian devotion to our
Blessed Mother. The Catholic
tradition of “May Crowning”
celebrates and honors our
Mother Mary, Queen of Heav-
en. This year our May Crown-
ing will be led by members of
the Parish Youth Group and
will take place at the 12:00 Noon Mass on Sunday,
May 6. All are invited and welcome. Our Marian
devotions this month will also include the celebra-
tion of the new memorial “Mary, Mother of the
Church” at the 7:00 p.m. Mass on Monday, May
21(the day immediately following Pentecost Sun-
day).
Thank-you to Scout Jack McCrae!! As his Life Scout Project he or-ganized a food collection for our St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Food Pantry. He and his fellow scouts of Troop #58, collected over 4,000 units of food (far more than expected!). They delivered this food last Sunday (in between the marathoners!) - it filled the stage in the down-stairs Lower Church to overflowing and then some! Please see the ac-companying photo. Thank you, Jack, for a great project! You earned a badge from us!!
The St. Vincent de Paul Society is in need of volunteers to help answer phones a few times a month, as well as donation collectors (the women and men with the coffee cans at the
Church doors) for the Masses on the third weekend of each month. We also can use home visitors to meet with people of our community to find out how we can best serve them. Please call 732-483-0360 ext.113
New Jersey
MARATHON
The New Jersey Mara-
thon was last Sunday
(April 29). Thousands
of Marathoners ran past the church TWICE – southbound toward Asbury Park
and northbound to the finish line. Volunteers from the St. Michael’s Hospitality
Committee and Youth Group were there to provide them with water and encour-
agement and High Fives! If you did not attend Mass at St. Michael’s last week-
end due to the Marathon or for other reasons, please remember to include your
April 29 stewardship donation to the parish in this weekend’s collection basket
or next weekend’s collection basket or please drop it off or mail it to the parish
office. As you will see on Page 4 of this bulletin, the weekly collection was
lower than usual last week (most likely attributable to the Marathon). But, of
course, the parish’s
bills and expenses do
not run any lower due
to the Marathon.
Thanks for your gener-
osity and attention
towards parish steward-
ship.
Bon Voyage, Leo
and Cristina! And
God Bless!
Our 11-year-old
parishioner Leo Olsen
and his mother Cristina are now on their pilgrim-
age to Lourdes, France as guests of the Knights
and Dames of Malta. They are carrying with them
the hundreds of prayer cards that were provided by
parishioners last weekend. Pictured in this photo
(in front of the Lady of Lourdes Grotto at the rear
of our church) are Leo and his mother and grand-
mother Peggy along with Fr. Butler, Fr. Lankford-
Stokes, and altar servers Joe Mirarchi and Paul
Boucher shortly after last Saturday’s Send-Off
Mass for Leo. Please keep Leo and Cristina and
their fellow pilgrims in your prayers this week.

Spring Clean-Up, Etc.
Our repairs to the church roof are com-
pleted and will keep the church safe and wa-
ter-tight for several years (please God!!!).
Our attention and resources in the area of
Buildings & Grounds are now turning to the
wooded area adjacent to the North Parking
Lot and to the garage. This area has become seriously overgrown over the past 5-10 years and work began
this week (please see the accompanying photos) to prune trees, to remove stumps, to cut and clear ivy and un-
dergrowth, etc. Ralph DeVito and Lars Jensen and their teams have already done remarkable work and the
project will continue into the Spring and early Summer. Let us (a) be grateful that the parish has sufficient
cash on-hand to undertake and complete these costly projects and (b) be mindful of the debt, obligation, and
responsibility that we owe to the St. Michael’s parishioners of the past and of the future to replenish those
funds. Our parish’s healthy financial condition is a great blessing that has enabled us to cover the costs to
keep our historic and beautiful church and
the parish grounds in good condition…and to
do so immediately when the work is needed
without having to defer the work pending the
raising of the necessary funds. This is a
blessing and a luxury that many parishes
lack. May we have a generous heart to rec-
ognize and reciprocate these blessings.

ST. MICHAEL’S VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
SEND YOUR CHILDREN ON AN OVER THE TOP
UNDERGROUND ADVENTURE!!
At “Shipwrecked Catholic Vacation Bible School,” children discover how Jesus rescues us
through life’s storms. “Shipwrecked” is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences
that children see, hear, touch, and even taste! Science-Fun Gizmos™, team-building games,
informative and entertaining Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout ac-
tivities that help faith flow into real life. Since everything is hands-on, children might get a
little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes and safe shoes. Plus, we’ll help the chil-
dren discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life-something we call God Sight-
ings. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot! This will be their best week of the summer!
FOR CHILDREN: Ages 4 through 9
LOCATION: St. Michael’s Church, Long Branch, New Jersey
“SHIPWRECKED” WILL LAST FROM: Monday, July 23RD through Friday, July 27TH
THE FUN BEGINS AT 9:30AM AND ENDS AT 12:00 NOON EACH DAY.
For more information, please call 732-222-8080.
Also, please call the Parish Office if you would like to volunteer to help out at Vacation Bible School this year!
