Dear Skyhawk Families,

May always signals a busy time here at Skyridge as we look to start wrapping up the current school year and at the

same time, planning for next year. At the district level, we are looking at how the expansion of our PBL program will

affect our numbers at Skyridge and consequently our staffing for next year. In the meantime, we begin our state

testing this month which always signals that the current school year is coming to a close. Our students do a great job

with this testing and are well prepared. Thank you for your continued support with this as we find out how our stu-

dents are doing.

Speaking of performance, we just received notice that Skyridge was awarded the Washington Academic Achievement

award for the 8th year in a row. This award is given to schools whose students are in the top five percent for growth

in certain areas. Skyridge was recognized for overall excellence, high progress, and math growth. This is a testament

to our hard working staff and the great kids that you send us on a daily basis. Thank you for trusting us with your stu-

dents and for encouraging them in their academic endeavors.

While this award definitely shows that our kids excel academically, the month of May also shows how involved our

kids are outside the classroom. Our very popular track program is in full swing with over 250 students competing in a

variety of running and field events. If you are looking for something to bring you chills, venture to Doc Harris stadium

on Thursday, May 4 at 5:30 pm to see the annual Twilight track meet between Skyridge and Liberty. Seeing 500 kids

spelling out Camas while doing “Camas Jacks” (jumping jacks) in unison will definitely give you a thrill. If indoor activ-

ities are more your style (or you are just done with this rain) be sure to catch our young thespians in the Skyridge Mu-

sical Seussical Jr. which takes place at the CHS theater on May 19 and 20. Tickets are on sale now.

It is definitely a busy time here on the ‘Ridge, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Working with middle school

students is never boring and we look forward to coming to work every day. As always, if you have any questions,

ASB STUDENTS ATTEND WE DAY IN SEATTLE—

CAMERON MILLER AWARDED INAUGURAL WE DAY AWARD.

15,000 students from around Washington state packed Seattle’s Key Arena for

a day full of motivational speeches and performances — with appearances

from stars including Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, Buzz Aldrin, Lily

Collins, Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart, Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan.

This year was the first year that Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks

awarded one student the Youth Leadership Award from his organization.

Cameron was recognized for his leadership skills in organizing the Live Long

and Strong event sponsored by the ASB. Great job, Cameron!

Science Olympiad Team ~ Coach Jeffrey Thomas

Our Skyridge Blue team placed 3rd and our Skyridge Green team placed 13th out of 22 teams at the state tournament on April 15 at Highline College. Way to go teams!

CHS Robotics Team Skyhawk, Justine Pendergraft, competed on the CHS FRC Ro-botics Team in the FRC World Championship in Houston April 19-22. The team won the Excellence in Engineering Award sponsored by Delphi. Great job, Justine and team!

Math Olympiad ~ Coach Jana Wells

On Saturday, April 28, 18 Skyridge students from 6th through 8th grade competed in our State Math Olympiad competition. The students worked in teams through a complex problem solving test and 5 short answer tests. Skyridge 6th grade teams were awarded two medals and a ribbon and 8th grade teams were also awarded two medals. Med-als indicate a nearly perfect score, which is ex-tremely difficult to attain. We are so proud of our Skyridge Math Olympiad competitors! Way to go!

ASB (Associated School Body) is a Flex Period Class that works to create a positive environment and community of service at Skyridge. The application process for next year’s Officers and Commissioners (ASB Non-Officers) is open now. All paperwork is due by Wednesday, May 10.

Those wishing to apply must complete the application and submit confidential teacher evaluation forms. These are available in the office and online. All applicants, for both officer and commission, that meet the requirements will be granted an interview.
