technologies in the field of telecommunication. smartphone makes human lives easy.

It is important to know how a smartphone works? A smartphone works on operating system. Operating system is also referred as the heart of the smart phone. Operating systems works on Arm architect- ture os is responsible for all the functions in a smartphone.

The movement of mobile phone operating system has rapidly increased to contain challengers such as Android, Symbian, Apple, BlackBerry, Microsoft, Palm, etc

Modern smartphones are closer to handheld computers that enable us to send emails, play games, watch the news and make video calls to loved ones.

Now a days, it is possible to operate a smartphone with voice. Eg: Iphone’s siri, google voice.

As resource manager: it manages processor, ram.

Storage management: It controls all the storage operations. Processor management: OS decides which process gets the

processor when and how much time. which operation needs first Memory management: Operating System also Manages the

Memory of the smartphone means Provide the Memory to the Process and Also De allocate the Memory from the Process.

Mastermind: Operating System also performs Many Functions and for those Reasons we can say that Operating System is a Mastermind.

Multi tasking: Multi tasking is the technique of running several programs at a time.

TYPES OF OPERATING SYSTEMS:1.ANDROID: Android Inc was founded in Palo Alto of California, U.S. by Andy Rubin,

Rich miner, Nick sears and Chris White in 2003. It is a linux based operating system. Present version is NOUGAT 7.0Pros: +Open source

+Multi window, Rom facility.

+Free apps, available on various companies.Cons: --battery life, No malware protection. --Slow processing (multi tasking).

IOS(Integrated Operating System):"I will call them on my iPhone" instead of saying "I will call them on my phone" Apple has very cleverly branded there product name!! January 10th, 2007. The present version is ios 10.0

Pros: +Highly secured.

+Single inbox.

Cons: -- not supports secondary memory.

--pretty costly.

--not user friendly, many permissions required.

Present symbian was maintained by Accenture. In May 2011 an update, Symbian Anna, was officially announced, followed by

Nokia Belle (previously Symbian Belle) in August 2011. number of mobile devices shipped with the Symbian OS up to the end

of Q2 2010 is 385 million. On 11 February 2011, Nokia announced that it would migrate from

Symbian to Windows Phone 7.Pros: +Stable Continuous Updates. + Cheaper Lot of apps available. + Durability assurance from Nokia. Cons: -- Monotonous and less customizable GUI. --Old and boring apps.

Blackberry:

BlackBerry OS is a proprietary mobile operating system designed specifically for Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry devices.

Traditionally, BlackBerry applications are written using Java, particularly the Java Micro Edition (Java ME) platform. However, RIM introduced the BlackBerry Web development platform in 2010.

Pros:

+ More than 70,000 apps launched with BlackBerry 10 OS in January.

+ Messaging support is unsurpassed, with amazingly fast text entry possible. Word suggestions pop up as you type but without distracting you.

  What is the difference between computer

OS and Smartphone OS? Smartphone OS have a minimum number of system files and it's

system memory not vast and fast. But desktop OS have maximum number of system files.it's source

codes can't change .It's get a large space, processor and ram. But mobile OS haven't large memory ram and processor. It's can't run

several programs in same time .mobile OS is easy to learn. Desktop OS not easy to learn.

CONCLUSION: If we talk about today’s generation .the smartphone is the ideal technology. For developers operating system is an ultimate platform for developing applications innovatively. Without operating system we cannot run a Smartphone. Hence ,operating system is very important in smartphone.
