It’s a time of badges, certificates, medals, trophies, recognition, awards, prizes and 'seeing' of high achievement. I love seeing the kids that shine at this time of year - a big high heartfelt round of applause to you. You so deserve it for the effort you have put in. May you and your children revel in small but significant victories that you have both experienced this year. For every year there is progress and growth, we don't need a podium or handshake or a hall of applause to be seen. I SEE YOU.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, I SEE YOU As we approach the end of the year I have included this article written by Colleen Wilson which I think is an important message for all. It’s a time of badges, certificates, medals, trophies, recognition, awards, prizes and 'seeing' of high achievement. I love seeing the kids that shine at this time of year - a big high heartfelt round of applause to you. You so deserve it for the effort you have put in. SUPPORTIVE SCHOOL AWARD On Monday I attended the Sydney South West School Sports Association Annual Blues Night and was pleasantly surprised to accept a certificate and sign, to be displayed on the Wetherill St fence, on behalf of the school for our support of sport within the region. Only 23 out of 197 schools received this acknowledgment. I personally thank Mrs Bennett for her support of school sport. She is active at school, zone and regional level in providing opportunities for many students. STUDENT REPORTS At present our teachers are finalising the Semester 2 reports for all students. These reports will indicate the achievements, attitude and application of your child to their learning experiences. The reporting process is lengthy and teachers spend many hours at home and school in both assessment analysis and report writing. Our aim is to communicate meaningful information to you about your child’s achievements and future directions for successful learning. Reports will be sent home on Tuesday, 10 December. STUDENT LEADERS FOR 2020 Last week we heard speeches from our 2020 Student Leader candidates. Congratulations to the boys and girls who presented a speech. I am very proud and reassured that our school and local community possess so many fine children. Student Leaders for 2020 will be announced at the Presentation Day Assembly next Tuesday. KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION The Kindergarten Transition program for students starting at Smithfield West in 2020 has now finished. Currently we have 57 children enrolled, which will be the largest intake during my time at the school. I extend a warm welcome to all the new families joining our school community next year. TROLLEY DRIVE Thank you to the many families who brought in non-perishable grocery items in support of the Starr Partners Real Estate trolley drive for the Uniting Church Diner, Fairfield. We exceeded all expectations in filling more than five grocery trolleys with donations. Well done Smithfield West! VOLUNTARY SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS Thank you to the families who have paid a Voluntary School Contribution ($50 for one child/$80 for two or more children) this year. Your assistance has made a significant contribution to the increased quality of learning materials available in our classrooms. CANTEEN NEWS The canteen will be open right up until the last day of school on Wednesday 18 December. Students will be able to order their lunch and purchase items at recess and lunchtime as usual. Stephen Gray Principal

SUMMER PSSA Smithfield West Public School was named the Summer PSSA Champion school for 2019. The winner is calculated on games won from games played and converted to an overall percentage. Our five teams won 34 of their 48 games with an overall percentage of 71%. Congratulations to all teams and their coaches on this outstanding achievement.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2019 There is still time to enrol your child for next year so they can be part of this valuable program. If your child is turning 5 years of age by July 31, 2020, and they will be starting school next year, please call into the front office to collect an enrolment form. If you have relatives or friends with school aged children living in this area, please take a form for them as well. An up to date immunisation certificate, proof of age and proof of address will be required for each child enrolling.

3/4C have been busy exploring measurement concepts in Mathematics. They have been defining and making a square metre to measure the area of large surfaces. This was a great hands on learning experience. We also enjoyed being creative making our Christmas artwork while learning about brush strokes and colour mixing.
